Well by definition they couldn't be in the same condition, as UNC and EF are two different conditions/grades. Both very good grades, EF being one below UNC, but the fact is the UNC would sell for more, cos it's the better grade.

From a coin collecting point of view, name your favourite 5 monarchs (they don't have to be English/British)... (monarchs that have the best designs, nicest coins etc...) Mine would be; (IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER) 1) James II 2) Charles II 3) Stephen 4) William IV 5) Queen Mary, or perhaps Richard II? (I need a coin from both of these, hopefully a gold coin from the latter... one day, one day).

1773 georgeivs III coin

I guess we could use them as landfill/hardcore stuff that they bury under the foundations of buildings? Or how about as ballast under railway sleepers for super effective drainage? -

Actually it's probably gonna be easier to get a full set of Gothic Florins in BU than it is to eliminate the Churchill Crown almost entirely from the numismatic collecting pool. -

I want to be the Crown crusher. My aim in life is to make the Churchill Crown a rarity, now how many would i have to destroy to get it to that level? -

So what about those that actually collect forged coins? (i know some people do... luckily i don't have any, any more) -
At the risk of getting shot... Washington Quarter reverse (i just love it!) Morgan Dollar reverse, and $20 liberty type III rev. Can't think of any others from the top of my head.

It's either a halfpenny or a farthing. What's the diameter of the piece? -
sorry i couldn't resist!

That about right, also you might whant to state whether it was a hunter, half hunter or open, whether it is stem wound or key wound. Cracks or fissures on the enamelled faces also detract from value. Also like you say, the hallmarks, whether it be London/Birmingham/Sheffield/Chester or some other non descript place. And the date letter... (presuming of course it is a quality piece not just some modern trash) One thing you did forget of course is, does it work? (or is it for spares?)

Well it's one of the better grades i've seen... I'd say GVF at least, wouldn't give it quite EF because those fleur de lis on the reverse are a bit worn. I'd say about £250-£300, selling on Ebay it'd fetch a little more, selling to a dealer you'd get less, usually about £220-240 On Ebay these things go mad, beyond all sense sometimes, and you might even get £350 for it. -
Early Milled Coinage
Sylvester replied to Sylvester's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Well if that is the case i should imagine sixpences would be double that amount, halfcrowns would be half and a quarter of that figure... But without the ratios one cannot be certain. And i guess that's a more plausible reason for haymarking, as in 'Hay'. Chemical reaction between the hay and the silver oxides and other impurities. I can almost imagine a kind of ammonia type experiment from chemistry. -
This is a bit of a long shot, but does anyone have access to any mintage figures for Early Milled coins (1662-1815) especially sixpences (also half guineas, especially James II ones) because i have been unable to find any at all. Most mintage figures that i have come across have been either for Elephant and Castle Guineas (unfortunately not much good to me because i don't collect them!), and post 1816 mintage figures, but i've shifted away from these coins over the last few years to the earlier stuff, so they aren't much good to me either. Any help (even mintage figures for any date from 1674-1787 not a comprehensive list of them all, would be a start) Thanks in advance Sylvester.

too right!

You had a guinea too? What kinda shape is that in then? £100 sounds like it's a lower grade one to me.

I always wanted a gold florin of Edward III, how many's left in existence about 7? Oh and i'd love a Henry III gold penny! *drool* my childhood dream that coin. -

Yes i like the Athenian Owls! But you just know they'd modernise it and ruin it. Not fussed on St George, i think that design has been around long enough as it is. Yeah i'd like some shield stuff back (like the Geo V half crowns of the 1910s), and Britannia both sitting variety and Edward VII florrie variety. I'd also like a gothic florin look on one of the coins, and how about Una and the Lion, or the three graces? Or even the enthroned monarch of the original gold sovereigns? Of how about something like one of those original gold florins!!! Now that would be -

So do i! I don't want to have to wait 30 odd years to get the coins in circ to the same age our oldest coins are now. Imagine how mundane and boring the euro would be... -

That sounds like it may be a barrel of laughs! Ah Mr Leake, yes Coincraft referenced him quite a bit. I've been wanting to get hold of that book, not just for the coins i just thought it would go well with the book collection. -
Oh is he buying them from you? You'd better buy them mintmark... (pssst Chris i'll get my tenner later).
