Coin Weight for Identification please
Richard2 replied to Paddy's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
A bit later than that guys. This is a Charles I Angel coin-weight. I’m not sure but think it’s a Briot die . W962. And as Rob said ,price is from about £10-30 -
I haven’t got a price in mind, what are they worth to you
-
Hi , I have three if your still interested
-
No scanner but will have ago with my camera
-
Many thanks to both of you for putting in the time and effort. Dave ,if you like I can send the coin to you to have a better look. Off out now to do a spot of metal detecting, see if I can find another one😀 cheers Richard

For such a poor conditioned coin that nearly got consigned to the scrap silver hammered box it certainly is a coin out of the ordinary, one to keep I think
-
Thanks Stuart, I will have to buy that now
-
Ok thanks, one last thing, what is the BCW reference you mentioned earlier please
-
Wow, thanks for that, please excuse my ignorance, but the shield reverse, is that from a groat die or similar or were some threepence struck with that size shield as I’ve still not found one on tinternet
-
Thanks guys, I didn’t realise Galata had done a book on threepences, and you wrote it Dave I believe. Looks very concise, but a little out of my price range for coins I don’t find many of.I also looked in some BNJ publications on Lizzie coins and found very little that was of help only that BA stood for broad arrowhead ( pheon) . so quite a rare coin then Dave?
-
Thank you both, although I didn’t understand a word you said Stuart 😂. What reference work are you using so I can have a look. Overall flan size is 18mm if that helps.
-
I’m no expert by any means , just had a quick look in withers . Your coin seems to fit the bill
-
I will kick things off with class 3b very nice coin

Due to the wet weather I’ve spent the afternoon taking pictures of some coins I’ve dug up and playing about on my iPad. I finally managed to work out how to put a picture on my profile. It’s an Elizabeth I milled sixpence I found probably ten years ago on what was my favourite detecting field , now sadly covered in green waste which has completely f#@£ed it. The field has produced approximately 100 or so hammered from all periods ,and this one was sitting on top of the soil just covered by some loose stubble. I got a signal from my detector and swept my foot over the top of the soil and exposed this wonderful coin. What I thought I might do in future is change my profile picture when I find a half decent hammered or to one I’ve found in the past
-
Okay, thanks Gaz. My thoughts also but needed additional confirmation I suppose
-
Can anyone confirm please what bust type this groat of mine is. I found it a couple of years ago but have been in two minds over what it is. Is it a mule, as the mm on the reverse doesn’t look like a rose as on the obverse. many thanks Richard
-
Thought you might like to see bigger pictures of the milled 6d
-
Well done Stuart, did the gold dance take place
-
Did you find it Stuart or was it bought.
-
Hi Stuart, just looked in Chris Rudd’s ABC book ( Ancient British Coins) and I believe it’s a Selsey Uniface ( ABC 488) of the Regini and Attrebates. Spink 39. Richard
-
Just looked at your Facebook page, couldn’t see any upcoming events, what you do looks really interesting. Would be good to come and see you at work
-
Hi Dave, do you do your demonstrations down south?
-
Hi , yes I found that link, but have not so far followed it up. If I get some time I will.
-
I thought this might be of interest to some, when I bought my copy at an Antiques fair a few years ago I found inside between the pages this headed note paper from the London Museum. Does anyone know who Mr Gale and W Henderson were ,or are. Long shot I know Richard

Very nice coin Dave
