  1. The mint is passing the 1/4 off as the new half as the price of Gold is so high. How ever I do not think this new demoniation will last longer than a few years. You have a very good point that a 1/4 Sovereign is a crown, but it all adds to the curiousness of such an odd coin. As for bullion, I have never paid more than 10% over spot for a full sovereign/bullion bar, thou I did pay 20% under spot for 40 oz of silver Philharmonics last year. We will see if this Ginger Haired Step child of a coin turns out to be a dud. . . . .
  2. I have pulled the trigger and ordered a 1/4 Sov Proof for 65 squid from the Royal Mint. At £32.50 per gram it is expensive but only 10,000 have been minted as proofs. I have a theory that the gold price will go back down to the £350 - £400 mark when the finacial crisis ends. Thus making it non profitable for the Mint to produce them. Are they a good investment?
  3. Thinking out side the box you could always get them made into jewellery/curios celebrating England’s 1966 world cup win.
  4. I've checked and they all line up with the dots. Sorry
  5. Have found my old coin collection in my Mums loft, after 14 years storage, I have got to wondering what to do with the coins. Most of the coins I have are worth little, but I still like looking at them. Since most of them are European from before the Euro, I was thinking of making a glass topped coffee table with the coins under the glass. Has anyone done this, if so any tips?
  6. I did the same thing Florin/10p and shillings/5p. I used to ask for them in my change at the local shops It all paid off in the end! :D
  7. I know what you mean about scattering a collection, I had great fun building it up in the 80's when you could pick up coins for very little. About 14 years ago I gave my young cousin about 20 Victorian pennies and half pennies, all fine/very fine, with quit a few bun pennies in there, to get him started in collecting. Little sod swapped them all for stickers and sweets
  8. Hi Chris, The coin collection is from my childhood so nothing really interesting. I have already sold all of my silver silver shillings, 3d,6d coins on ebay and sunk the money into silver maples (Mmmmm, shiney silver!). here's a cut and paste of whats left. 9. Cheers Teg, that would explain why there was nothing on 1730 pennies!
  10. Photo of it http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2102/227765...dbd76ed.jpg?v=0
  11. Hi, Does any one have any ideas or information on George II Penny dated 1730? I have looked on the web but with little luck. It's been in my collection since I was a kid and now I'm selling off some of the coins. Cheers Jon
