I have also noticed this quote in Spink, but surely if a coin is UNC whether full lustre or not it merits UNC price. If a coin is toned, does that mean Spink says its EF? Not getting that part at all. Also how many bunheads have we seen in what spink would then regard as ture UNC which would mean with full lustre. Sorry but i must laugh at that quote Anyway back to the post, i believe that ms66 is 1 point short of perfect by USA grading standards, so hence the push in price me thinks. We all know that full lustre commands a higher price so I think a price for BU and a price for UNC as Chris does in his CCGB. I only have the 2009 edition which puts the 1931 penny at £25 in UNC and £35 in BU.

1922 Penny with rev of 1927

Two options, soak it in olive oil for a year or two or try soaking in contact oil such as this oil other than that sell it as it is! -
I smell a rat! There are only 3 unique bidders and the last one has upped their bid three times ie outbidding themselves. Not in itself unusual, I have done it too. Put a bid in and then decided to increase it so bid again but never three times. The price does seem excessively high, this years spink quotes £55 for UNC and spink also quote that UNC means with full lustre as is the case for this coin. I would expect a few £'s more due to the slabbing and expert grading but £103, hmmm! What will it eventually fetch, I predict £103 or is someone confusing this with a sovereign? An investor with no knowledge of coins!

1922 Penny with rev of 1927
Gary replied to Accumulator's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Ouch! I have never seen one of these or seen one offered for sale. If I did see one then I would expect it to be in a worse condition than that one. Very nice find and free at that! Freeman states the rarity at R18 (6-15 known) this could be the 16th so you have dropped the rating to R17 Who knows what that could bring at auction!! The Verdigris seems to be superficial (still soft) and should be easy to remove, carefully but I would have to disagree with with Vickysilver about using copper coin agents on this coin due to it rarity! -
Rostrum - Dubious attribution?

Those were my thoughts as well Scott. I looked at it and although by no means an expert on shillings it did not look right. The legend is too bulky. I have an 1696 and an 1697 and the lettering seems to be much thinner. I know there are more than one obv types so maybe its just a different obv, like I said no expert! -
Halfpennies, maybe farthings too! Can use Excel

T over T in BRITT on 1860 farthing
Gary replied to si666's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Have not seen that on a farthing before but I have seen it on an Halfpenny, see this thread 1861 T over T almost identical! -
With cleaning, I would go for about £20-£25 on a good day. They are interesting coins but quite common ones (I've got no less than four in Fine-VF), so Palves, tell your friend to keep his money in his pocket and shop around. Just one word of warning, they do get rather expensive in the very highest grades. sound advice

-
however I did come across this on Ebay while searching. A novel way to sell your coins...................... €10 Gedenkmünze
-
Item Removed.... how did you do that?
-
Done a search on the german sites and can come up with nothing. I am going to stick my neck out and say that it is probably a jeton and not a real coin or medal. Until we can get a pic with size and weight thats all I can add at the moment.

1919KN Penny
Gary replied to argentumandcoins's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
looking at your pic of the sideways view, it looks as if the coin has been shaved either intentionally or by accident. It seems to have slight ridges around the edge as though someone has scrapped a sharp edge around it. -

The two that I have weigh in at 9.04 and 9.41 gramms. both are 30.7mm in Diameter. Neither have an irregular edge like your example. Sorry John, cant help other than that. -

First of all. hello and welcome to the forum. Most of us are pretty friendly here. As to your question regarding gold coins. I am in no way an expert on this subject but I think I am right when I say that modern gold coins will have a very limited collectors value. Obviously all gold coins have a minimum value based on the gold prices at the time of sale. In the past few years gold prices have risen steadily as I am sure you know. As to the question will they rise in value, who knows? Maybe 200 years down the line they will have attained a higher collectors value, but what will be the gold price be in 200 years? You mentioned a dealer who was "nasty little piece of work", care to elaborate on that? Always good to hear peoples thoughts/warnings about particular Dealers.

Clearly an A. You can clearly see the slightly offset V underneath as well. Nice find RLC35.

Could'nt dispute the advice already given. If you can get that coin for £20 then you will have been lucky and will have bagged a bargin.
