2004 20p second O of 2004 filled in any value?
Russ777 posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Just found this one in my change Is a 2004 20p with the second 0 of 2004 almost totally filled in with the same metal as the coin. Has this particular flaw been recorded here before? Interested to know if it might be of some value to a collector of decimal coinage.. Russ777 -
Worth a go worn old 10ps and 5ps?
Russ777 posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Hi I have seen in a local auction about £100 worth estimate(face) of old size GB 5ps and 10ps Only problem all have that kind of blue/white corrosion. Looks like they might have been buried in the garden in two old crocks! Just wondered if they would hold any value or can be cleaned if they get that bluey white. They are in the auction for the 2nd week and I just wondered. Would anyone here know of I could get the cash if changed at the bank etc or if any dealer would touch?Or any scrap value? Probably could buy the LOT for a quid or two as noone seems interested Russ777 -
1874 3d lettering odd VICTORIA
Russ777 posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Hi is this some kind of error on the first I after V of VICTORIA??? Some kind of metal spill or die break?? This is an 1874 3d.. it has a hole as it has been made into a fob. Thoughts please? Any premium to this one despite the hole?? Thanks Russ777 -

Russ777 replied to Russ777's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I'd say that would be very difficult to make a call, based on the images? There does appear to be a 'blob' in the teeth, and a possible die split running down beneath that into the I. Without a better close-up, for me I can only speculate and say a damaged I and curio/research value only. Thanks. Would you say not worth taking off the watch chain fob and selling separately then? Regards Russ777 -
Can any one identify this large coin. With the dragon and Sun symbol I am thinking Japanese or Chinese. An idea to it's date and value and catalogue value etc would be useful too. It came with an early 20th century sailor's effects so most likely picked up on his travels... It measures 12cms across and is brass looking. Thanks Russell

What is this large coin please?
Russ777 replied to Russ777's topic in Enquiries about Non British coins
Thanks for your help. It was picked up as I say by a sailor on his travels in the early 1900s so I think mine might be an older replica than 1930s but obviously probably not 1600s! But I am guessing they did not have brass then! Mine looks like a brass type material. When did they invent brass?? It is possible this was a gift or purchase by the sailor at the time. Perhaps mine is larger as it came from a temple or such like? It is possible it got into the collection later than 1900s though... Interesting though Thanks Russ -

Do you really mean 12cms across? I.e. the size of a small plate. I know nothing about these, but have this link which may help: Chinese coins Scroll down and you should find it. Yes it is really 12cms across! -

4 Sols Louis XIV 1691 mistrike error on R of FRETNA?
Russ777 replied to Russ777's topic in Enquiries about Non British coins
Thankyou I thought you meant as to it being an error at all! What kind of error could it be thought as a general coin die error? What happens in the die? That is universal to all types of coins of this era I guess whether English or French.,, Thanks Russ -
4 Sols Louis XIV 1691 mistrike error on R of FRETNA?
Russ777 posted a topic in Enquiries about Non British coins
Hi I have this 4 Sols Louis XIV coin A small silver coin. I have noticed like a doubling of the first stoke of the letter 'R' of FRETNA. Is this a recognised error. I cannot see a complete doubling of the letter but there does seem a bit jutting out top right of the R so a possible. Could it be I over R??? If anyone could help I would also like to know the value of this and what I should describe it as. If it is catalogued as I would like to sell it. I realise the coin is F but hopefully this error may bump at the price. I was fortunate to see it as a small silver coin. Looks like a definite bit of a letter at the bottom though. Hopefully someone can help with French 17th century error coins. I have uploaded the picture of the non-date side obverse in another post as I could only get 2 images on here. Thanks Russ777 -

Thanks for your replies. I have posted on the US site mentioned. Coinpeople. As regards 'clutching at straws' there is a definite error of the first R in FR. So would a specialist collector pay more for such an error??? I think I read for a period Coins with French profile were also valid in GB if I am correct? Regards Russ777 -

Winston Churchill 1965 crown/ E & P Crown 1972
Russ777 posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Hi I know ordinarily the 1965 Churchill Crown and Elizabeth and Philip 1947-1972 crown are fairly common however I have come by these in two solid silver coin salvers. The trays weighing 78.9 and 79.8 in weigh and hallmarked solid silver. The coins themselves look silver or is this unlikely? I believe the 1972 had a mintage of only 10000 in silver and I cannot find if the Churchill Crown was ever minted in silver. Of course they may only be coated in silver in the tray but they look like quality pieces. Any advice on these?? I cannot find other examples of these silver salvers on the net which makes me think they could be quite rare as uncirculated coins set in silver trays. The date letter is for 1972 ® and maker SPQR Could someone advice what the coins are worth if in silver and have never been in monetary circulation? I read somewhere that a truly uncirculated Winston Churchill Crown is worth £10000 but that sounds like hot air to me! Any advice please? Of course I know the silver has a high value as scrap but wonder if these would hold a premium for collectors and even worth carefully removing and selling as very nice uncirculated coins? Thanks Russ777 -

Any help in valuing these silver coins, I am looking to sale. I tried to upload one big picture but too large for upload..? I know condition is paramount for grading coins most are average condition except 1942 Half crown which I would grade EF 1 x 1889 GB CROWN 1 X 1895 CROWN 1 X 1889 HALF CROWN 1 X 1887 DOUBLE FLORIN 1 X 1942 HALF CROWN 14 x silver three pences. 1915,1917,1918 x 2, 1919 x 2, 1920 x 2, 1933,1935,1938,1940,1941 All are better than 'scrap condition' and the 1942 half crown looks extra fine. the 1895 Crown has the LVIII legend round rim, you can see detail clearly in the face on the 1889 crown I think these weigh in at 4.7 ounces. But as collectors items what should I be looking for?? Any good dates here or varieties I should be looking for??? I would be looking to sell and would avoid ebay if a decent offer is accepted here.. Thanks Russ777

1982 twenty pence doubling of 82? and around leaf/rose ?
Russ777 posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Hi found this 1982 twenty pence obvioulsy circulated but with what appears a doubling of the 82 and similarly some amount the leaf and shadow (on right) It took me ages to get a cam pic of this but you can see the other part of the 8 at top centre and at right. Then I noticed some doubling of metal around right edge of right leaf and rose edge circle.. What do I have here? The image of the other '8' and '2' is omewhat weaker in the undernearh part. But this could be as the metal was punched on top again. Is it a double punch of the 82??? Very common or not??? Pity the coin is circulated but I was lucky to see it under magnifier.... Thoughts please as to how this emerged? If indeed an error and has this one been seen before? I would be particularly interested to know why it has only affected the 82 and not the 19 in anyway I can see... Would be looking to flog it on Ebay probably if confirmed it is a proper error variety/flaw Regards Russ777 -
Hi I have an 1856 farthing there appears to be a tiny numeral like a '7' and perhaps a 5 impressed into the very edge of the coin above Victoria's profile so together it could be '57' Is there any reason why this may have been done the more I look it it does look like a tiny 5 and 7 spaced out over DEI is there any reason why his would have been done could it have been off one of the dies and not intended to be impressed Of could this have been done by some eccentric victorian but why bother? The rim also looks quite raised both sides Thanks Russ777
