Silver book - Davies or Groom?!
Cerbera100 replied to Cerbera100's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Wow! The author himself! Well, I hope Amazon give you a good cut, as I've decided to get both your silver and bronze books, as well as Davies! I'll let you know what I think in a week or so when they arrive - but I dont think I'll be disappointed from what everyone has said! -
Silver book - Davies or Groom?!
Cerbera100 replied to Cerbera100's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Umm... click here for the book's page on a well known internet book seller! -
This is an all-time classic!

WTF?! I wonder if he actually got his £9k and gave 90% to charity... -
Thats about the fourth different seller I've seen with this coin over the last year or so... Price is creeping up as well... I was the under-bidder on the first sale at a massive £0.05! On the original pic (and description) you can see that the area within the white speckles has been bored out almost through the coin... thought it might be an interesting curio - but not at £300... or £3 for that matter!

Did anyone win anything at today's Spink sale?
Cerbera100 replied to Rob's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Huh... I was working on Philip and Mary... especially on the premise that Rob mentions 'half a dozen on the next page'... Are there seven 1798 shillings about?! -
I think thats about the 3rd time thats been listed! My favourite bit is "This is a chance that comes up once every lifetime"!
-
You mean Vini Vidi Vici... or as a school-acquaintance once incorrectly quoted in a talk to a room full of 14 year old boys Vidi Vici Vini - much laughing ensued!
-
It does happen...

I dont think there is many of us Reading-ites on here, but having been stood next to Derek when he was shown (no, its not mine ) the 5 is as clear as the nose on Victoria's face! -
"This listing (110658639304) has been removed, or this item is not available" Oh... thats a bit useless! Perhaps he realised that his "Ultra-rare NI flagged 2002 Commonwealth £2 coin (rarest of the Commonwealth flags!)" in "almost perfect" (or to us, rather bashed!) condition wasnt worth the £49.99 BiN he'd listed it for!
-
Link... Really?!
-
what makes me laugh is that a lot of people are still putting ULTRA RARE or words to that affect on their titles... despite the fact that (at time of press!) 118 come up on a basic search!
-
What a fantastic collection! I wish mine were as thoroughly comprehensive and rare as that!
-
Ouchy! I hope to god thats a typo! I'd want next day delivery to Mars for that price!
-
I remember trying to spend a 1995 VE day £2 a few years back (ok, maybe 15!) and getting a very funny look from the poor lass... it helped that I was 11 and looked sweet and innocent, but it didnt stop her calling the manager down! Cant remember if I got my pick 'n mix though... Oddly it was the same girl about a week later that refused a £50 note for a Mars bar and got the bloke arrested... he was carrying over £2k in fake fifties!

These things are still selling?! I also like the 'undated both sides' comment with a pic of the reverse only! Some muppet would probably buy it!

Simple... Report him! Point 1 - "sorry this item was wrongly listed" - ok fine, we all make mistakes! Point 2 - "sorry to waste your time" - yep, and my refund will be arriving when?! Point 3 - "i have relisted the item as it should be" - WHAT?! This is almost on a par with those annoying letters you get... You've won £1,000,000 - just send me a cheque for £100 to claim it! Bear in mind that with Paypal (which I presume you used) the seller is automatically guilty (someone else said that somewhere - please dont do me for plagiarism!). Yes he's small-fry, but as everyone has said, no decent apology, no hint of a refund and a concession for wasted time would be nice! Sorry, but I've been bum-raped as a seller for significantly less! -

Oh dear oh dear... what is the world coming to! Does anyone else think that the colours look artificially/digitally enhanced?! -
Is ''Paul Wincott@@ still dealing?

Sorry to resurrect this old thing, but just remembered it! Yes, Paul is definitely still dealing! -

Very nice! Mine was about the same amount - not quite that condition, but was a couple of years ago... the last three I've seen sell have all been over the £60 mark, with one as high as £80 plus premium (Workman Part 1 - L109)! I did pick up a F-VF one from a local antique shop for only 20p though... and a 1946 ONE' for 20p... quite a profitable ten minutes! -

True - but from personal experience, as a rough guide I knock 20% off the Spink price when I'm looking to buy, and up to 40% off when I'm looking to sell (reserve/starting price of course!)... Equally, you get the anomolies as Derek (I think!) mentioned - a prime example being the 1940 Single Exergue line penny... when was the last time I saw one of these sell for 'only' £40?! -
fake 2005 proof £1?
Cerbera100 replied to Godot's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Ok... I've finally got round to photoing and uploading some of the better (or worse?!) fake pounds that I have... Album can be found here... Three photos of each - obv, rev and edge. Any comments welcome! -
I tried that one - but now I'm getting an almost daily ear-bending over 'have you sold that b****y set yet?! Also didn't help that it was two 1927 Proof Sets at a shade over £500 a pop... wasn't planning on winning both! I guess that's the hazard of postal bidding!
-
I tried that one on a recent purchase... Unfortunately, the auction house decided that the invoice/receipt needed to be sent to my home address, and given that Mrs Cerbera and I share the same first initial and the aforementioned auction house hadnt thought to prefix 'J Cerbera' with Mr or Mrs, she opened it Was I for the high jump that evening when I got home from work!
