  1. Do they really expect to shift 27 20p undated mules for a minimum of £40 each?!
  2. Yes, and too many! Works the other way as well though... as a seller, I always state in the description 'sensible reserve' or words to that effect, yet people still bid £1.24! Why?! I'm hardly going to 2nd chance offer you at that price!
  3. Welcome! I cant see anything unusual in the image (something bigger might help) so at the moment, yes it is worth precisely 2p!
  4. Welcome to the forum and a nice little error you have there! Values for these are always quite difficult, but an error collector who didnt have one might part with as much as a tenner... as to how many there are, I have two or three so not exactly rare - a nice curio if nothing else!
  5. I've bought a couple of bits (never more than about £20), and only tried to sell once... a 1996 Silver Proof set which they were selling at the time for £175 - was offered £70 for it! I laughed and walked away! Personally, I believe that some of the pricing in there is crazy - but some people obviously pay it or they wouldnt still be in business!
  6. There was a great Coin Monthly advert, late 60s - INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITY, THE RARE 1951 PENNY, Buy ONE, or Discounts for Purchases of 10 or 100. Wonder if any of the buyers of 100 ever saw their money back? They created their own markets by hyping coins...Top 10 investments etc which with hindsight were all damp squibs. Hang on - are we talking about Coin Monthly or a fairly well-known issue from opposite the BM?!
  7. Uh oh... I sense a repeat of the 'drilling a penny' fiasco... TAKE COVER!
  8. Error - yes, a broken die... Rare - nope, sorry! I did see one of the 'polo' £2 sold on ebay as 'loose middle' - the clamp marks on the outer and bash marks on the inner were soo bad that they showed clearly on a very blurred pic!
  9. I enjoyed the 'in the proper light' bit! The absence thereof perhaps?!
  10. Hmmm... some fairly negative feeling here! Personally, i quite like Coinex - and significantly more now its back in central london rather than western copenhagan! (ok, eXcel center - but close enough!) I tend to rock up on Saturday morning (for the free entry bit) with maybe £200 on me, and wander round chatting to and getting to know dealers... if I see something I fancy, I'll have a punt! It can be a bit crowded, but no worse than the supermarket at the same time! Granted I live in Slough, so its 45mins train/tube or 60mins train/walk to Grosvenor Square, so that removes a fair amount of pain! Hey ho, each to their own! Given that you seem fairly local to the big smoke, so i figure it must be worth one try!
  11. Could wing it off to the Royal Mint - they'll authenticate it... and all for the price of a stamp!
  12. Possibly... as Rob said, the main give-away will be the weight and thickness. If you want a definitive answer, contact the Royal Mint and say you've got an odd coin that you would like verified, and they'll give you a name and address to post it off to. Will take about a month, but they'll give you a nice letter to say yes or no! Best bit is that the only cost to you is the initial postage!
  13. How about something like this... I realise is a pattern, but it means that some were officially struck...
  14. I'd go down Peter's £0.99 start with £1 P&P route initially... then anything that you've got left can be bundled together...
  15. Indeed - I've noticed a couple of lots recently that have been described as 'bright Unc' but have clearly been cleaned/dipped in the not too distant past... Mostly George III/IV, William IV and early Victoria silver... I often wonder what is used, as my silverware at home never comes up that bright!
  16. Whatever - it's a bloody gorgeous little coin Here here! And unfortunately way beyond my pockets at the moment
  17. You got as far as 6?! That deserves congratulations if nothing else! In answer to your questions in turn - Yes, I didnt get far enough to find out, and I think so in that you are not 'breaking' it! Though in my view, if putting a stamp on an envelope upside-down is treasonous, surely drilling a hole in Queenie's head should be as well?!
  18. Thats a good little haul! Enjoy the coin shop when you get there, but whatever you do dont tell the man how much money yuo have in your wallet!
  19. Yes... not sure sheep have featured on any English coin have they?! And I always thought our Norman friend looks a bit grumpy on that issue!
  20. Its a hard slog with lots of bold and counter-bold - not quite to the level of the sign above of the door of Room 101, but getting close!
  21. Ski said something that Peck disagreed with, and both believe themselves to be right... Honours even after Round 1! There...! 18 words and a number!
  22. Well, happy birthday for tomorrow, and whatever coins you get, enjoy them!
