Rarest Circulation Coin?
scott replied to PatrickCoin's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
i have a 1985 50p only 682,103 of those minted but those are not in circulation anymore but its still lower then the rarest commonwealth games £2 if you count old 50ps then the 109,000 1992 one would be it. -
that error never went a way, i have examples from 1917 egypt and even 1994 ireland, its interesting. in copper though its hard to come by, no idea why it happened in silver.

what % of minting figures have survived and what % are high grade?
scott replied to scott's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
possibly, the war years there was hording, hence mint darkening (?) but i'm alosing looking at the general price hikes of H and KN and the 1926 pennies from a few quid in fine to 30+ in VF, i dont see why, are they THAT obscure in date terms event wise thatno one kept anything back?) -
its the second coinage of PHRA MAHA CHULALONGKORN hard to say exactly what demination it is as i dont know the sizes but probably a 2 att from 1887-1905

what % of minting figures have survived and what % are high grade?
scott replied to scott's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
and i'm guessing the mass hikes on things like KN and H is to do with strike quality as well? -
not always.. some bargains to be had there if you look plenty of overgarded coins and general rubbish but you can get one HELL of a bargain sometimes... and misrepesented isnt a bad thing all the time? remember my 1882 halfcrown listed as 1898 i got for only a few quid ? dont go ebay until you have at least a basic knowledge of grading and identification, and of course ebay is a great place for decent bulk buys, even with postage buying a mixed lot of 200 coins you can get them for stupid prices like 5-10p a coin (trust me there is always nearly something in there worthwhile of the purchase ), there are bargains to be had on ebay, i have got many a bargain. DO lookup dealers near you, they usualy have a good mix of anything and everything, bargain buckets (sometimes a bargain in those too )

what % of minting figures have survived and what % are high grade?
scott replied to scott's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
indeed i do know that, it just seems odd that sometimes some coins have a huge hike while other are only minor. i was just wondering if there was a sort of estimate done on crades in general to gt a ball park figure of how rare something is in high grade regardless of mintage -

The One Penny & The Half Penny
scott replied to thedigger's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
still nice, i find a lot of 1964 halfpennys with lustre though, i have no idea why 1964 is that way :/ -
need thoughts on this 1838 farthing
scott posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
its 2 prong no . after DEF bit knocked, still scarce, what struck me as odd when it arrrived was the thickness of the numerals, so naturallyy i take a look to see whats going on, but cant help but notice the 8, it also has an interesting B in BRITANNIAR but thats not exciting. for this picture you can see what got me interesting in investigating the date (the thin 3 compared to the others) BUT in the process i did spot that corner in the top right of the 8. here is a zoomed in picture, you can see the angle, and i cant help but think that the 8 is over a 3 (looking at the shape of the righ side of the 8) click it for a larger image, which shows the general shape of the 8 and i hate pressing 8 instead of 9... -
3 farthings George V
scott replied to thedigger's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
possibly dipped, mint darkened farthings you see, as the lustre was yellowish, people were passing them off as gold pieces -
didn't George V hate the rocking horse crown? anyway, i wouldn't play more then face value for a coin. speaking of the mini i have one... it was free... even if its just a 10p planchet with a differant design

Could someone identify this coin for me please?
scott replied to thedigger's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries

scott replied to Peckris's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
what the? bargain of the weekend 1926 aEF penny pictures are not that good, but i can see enopugh of the helmet to see thats well into VF, even if its not modfied effigy, if this is EF, which by the looks of the text at the bottomis VERY LIKELY then its a winner and probably rare and a lustrous 1938 penny 1938 -

old pennies srap/or valuable
scott replied to demonik1's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
heh nice, that might slightly top me 200k mintage EF 1939 rhodesia 3D then in an £8 200+ coin bulk buy i should try and find boot sales and fairs and have a look through these, i have found these at 25p this year alone at my dealers nothing like a good look. also going through the unpriced stuff brings gems, i have an absolutly gorgeous aEF 1885 japan 1 sen for £1.50 -
i can see a differance. i'll check mine later, currently looking at the 9's on edward VII

i hate sorting through stuff, but i have got lucky with bulk buys on ebay, found some pretty nice things in a good % of bulk buys still worth a look through, use the key dates guide on the site and look for those. -
