    Flat disc collectors alert!

As I told my wife when we first met "sometimes you just have to take what you can get pet" Can we assume that statement refers to the stunted growth 6? It's not that it's a small organ Rob, it's just never played in a Cathedral that big before

    Warwick and Warwick auctions

Welcome to the forum mtwc. I have recently found Warwick to be a lost cause for me and haven't bid for 3 sales now. Their low estimates aren't a problem for me, it's the inexplicable prices that are being achieved on low grade milled crap. I hope you enjoyed the ashes series (both of the last 2) as much as I did ;-) Just for Azda (that's cricket Dave, a game played by gentlemen, oh and Aussies) I'd rather watch Newcastle UTD than cricket, better still, watching paint dry would be more exciting Dave, for a man whose nations greatest sporting achievements involve sweeping a sheet of ice infront of a stone with a handle fixed to it, I'll treat your sports knowledge with the contempt it deserves!

No, not at all Peter. Good luck to the mackems. I'm very pleased to see Brucie investing so heavilly in forwards and midfielders after the 5 1 drubbing we gave them last season

  7. You have to remember that ebay is a multi-national corporation Tom. Think of it like a terminator "it doesn't feel., it doesn't sleep and it shows no mercy or pity" Basically the machine that is ebay doesn't give a toss about anything but profit. The only thing that makes them take notice is bad press or the threat of it. Lying, cheating sellers are ten a penny on there and they will continue to operate until the end of time. All we can do is to continue (in the vain hope of action) to report offenders to ebay and steer well clear of the ones we know are cheats ourselves.

    unusal 1917 george v penny.

Peck is correct. Lightweight flan reduced in size and weak looking strike are indicators of an acid bath.
  9. Welcome Joey. The extra metal in the same place and varying amount on different examples suggests a progressive die flaw (starts small and increases in size until the die eventually fractures or is discarded).

Coppers for scrap - all to charity

You could give the whole lot to a charity of your choice (the scrap stuff that is) and they will most likely have a contract with an auction house somewhere. Alternatively approach your local auctioneer and tell him where the proceeds are going and they mau well sell at a commission free rate. As regards scrapping them there is no problem in legislation as long as they are not legal tender, which these obviously won't be.

    Bitcoin users?

Once you get your head around the fact that money doesn't really exist anywhere you begin to wonder why we don't go back to the barter system (I'm sure that the Treasury is probably considering it).

    DIY disaster

As they are now all damaged from carpets and bumping together and all that.... I'll buy the lot from you for £10 Peter, but only to save you the trouble of putting the ensemble back together. I don't really want them it's just to help you out.

Copies of rare or scarce coins

hello to you all.... I have just been given lot of coins in a will, they consist maily by the looks, old english and commonwealth 3d coins with the odd florin and old farthings and such like, I'm afaid I have'nt a clue as to there value if indeed the are, as I'm am more into old comics and comic annuals where is the best place for a valuation. Welcome to the forum. The answer to your question depends on where you are. There are several dealers who use this site and we all give valuations. It also depends on what sort of valuation you want; 1) Do you want to know what you should insure them for (ie the cost to replace them all in the same grades)? 2) Do you want to know what a dealer would pay you for them? 3) Do you want to know what they would fetch in auction?

Myself, Declan and Hus all use a Canon powershot A480. It will knock you back around £60 Steve and ticks all of the above boxes. I don't use a tripod or any lighting other than natural daylight. Thanks John, I think I can stretch to £60! If no one has a better idea I'll get one next week. I'm fed up looking at me poor scans. On the other hand, you should be able to pick up a DSLR plus macro lens and still have change from a grand .... Only really worth it if you're a dealer. Otherwise get a decent camera for a few hundred and spend the rest on coins. A drug dealer Sion? There aren't many coin dealers that could or would lash out a grand on a camera

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Very, very interesting. An absolute bargain for £85.00, I'd say. Can't see it being on sale for long. It does look like a narrow date, yes. It also looks genuine. It's about as right as a WWII bomber on the moon! Without even trying to look at dies it is apparent that the second 1 is a totally different style. I had the very fortunate miss on an 1860 penny on ebay at £1200 a couple of years ago (I think it made over £2k). It appeared to be an unrecorded J + g. It now appears on page 100 of Michael Goubys book as an altered date forgery. At least this seller states he thinks it is a wrong un. Ebay is an absolute minefield and should be negotiated in a bomb suit (preferably 2) with a very good sniffer dog and detector in front of you!

    Champions League Final

Barcelona, nowt to do with a dislike of Man Utd though. Messi is the major difference as Man Utd don't have a player of individual brilliance anymore. They won the Premier League by playing mediocre football in a mediocre season.

    1805 Two Pence Pattern

The bidding increments on this lot at Plymouth were a lesson for those trying to throw off the opposition. It got to £30K with the winner in £1K steps, then it went £30,500, then £31K, then £31,500, then the killer blow by the winner calling out £32,500 rather than going £32K. It may have been to ensure that the winner used up every bit of leeway he had or not, I don't know, but it gave the desired result as the underbidder passed. I have called out 4 times the bid increment more than once in the past. It saves p*****g about when you know you are going to be the buyer anyway. It also totally demoralises the competition. There's nowt like grinding them in the dirt

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

My friendly note to him: Dear jsp69jsp, I suppose you've noticed that the picture you've supplied is not a 1940 penny, but one of 1900?! Also, the 'penny' has been in circulation since the mid-900's AD, so 1940 isn't exactly old! - cerbera100 His reply... Dear cerbera100, so this isnt a question about the penny at all, just you telling me pointless information thanks - jsp69jsp So apparently informing someone that their title, image and description are utterly wrong is 'pointless information'... Do wonders never cease?! Question is, do I reply, and if so how?! Why am I not surprised. You could turn it into a 'question about the penny' though. How about, "Why is this nice penny owned by an idiot who believes it to be from 1940 when a poorly trained monkey could tell him that it's dated 1900? Moreover, why does the same brainless moron advertise it as the 'oldest on eBay' when the most basic grasp of numeracy would indicate otherwise?" Or something along those lines. Anyway, hopefully he will get his comeuppance when it sells at auction for 99p rather than the £75.54 BIN price! So he has no "sarky get out" I've messaged him asking simply "Is it 1940 as in the description or 1900 as in the photo?" Let's see how he gets out of a straight question. Wonder whether he replied Peckris? Anyway, he's updated the listing and it now reads "the picture says different but the penny is a 1940"! Still the oldest on eBay and "as seen on Antiques Roadshow" though. Twat! The chappie has the brains of a peanut methinks!

I didn't want to comment Kris, just in case Sion is a Welsh separatist terrorist working on some sort of EMP device that will wipe out all of the computers in England. Perhaps he has tried the lamp bomb and knows it won't work
