Isle of Man Onchan Internment Camp 1d
argentumandcoins replied to sweetcheeks82's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Krause World Coins list the penny at $6 in F, $15 in VF, $35 in EF and $80 in UNC if they are genuine Not my area of expertise, but they are quite scarce, just 20,000 minted The 1/2d and the 6d are even rarer apparently, just 2,000 and 2,500 minted respectively Yours look to be at least EF grade, but a note of caution they could be modern copies, do you have any provenance? Hope this helps David Hi what does provenance mean? I live in the Isle of Man, they were my dads. The Photos dont display the true colour, i took them in bad lighting, they are alot darker than shown. Thanks for your reply. If the Onchan tokens are real and not some sort of post war souvenir they are very saleable. IOM copper coinage (1709-1813 in particular) is very sought after, particularly in the US and this extends to the wartime tokens. -
This is an all-time classic!

John He is on loan on a pay for play basis....guess what he is injured. He actually scored when he had a broken leg before we popped him up to you for £6m. It was that Robson chap who also collared Titus. Those two only fired on 3 cylinders...shame really. Christ is he sill alive? Not Christ, but Kieron Dyer lol Was it him who had the standup fist fight with the Barton character when they both played (supposedly) for the same team? It wasn't so much a stand up fist fight, as a direct attck on his teammate Ousmane Dabo at Man City. It was basically GBH by any other name. Barton is a very aggressive character who has been involved in violence towards others on many occasions. Not a pleasant individual IMO. Joey Barton I think you will find he has matured somewhat over the last 2 years. The sending off in the Arsenal game when he was grabbed by the scruff of the neck by Diaby being a good example. 2 years ago Diaby would have got snotted, this time Barton just shrugged it off. He doesn't drink anymore either, which obviously negates the thug in him on nights out. It took him a while but I think he has finally grown up and joined the human race. One of very few individuals who has had the guts to take a look at himself, decide he didn't like what he saw and make some life changing decisions. -

Rarer than a 20p no date genuine mint error no date either side. Obviously worth an ebay buy it now of at least £250,000. -
Unidentified coins
argentumandcoins replied to sweetcheeks82's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
The first is Roman, but looks like it's a copy to me, 2nd as stated and the third is definitely a cast copy/modern replica of a 1747 Shilling. -
1903 open 3 penny
argentumandcoins replied to azda's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Anything is possible but there is no evidence at all for an underlying digit. The 3 is indeed a strange shape and to my knowledge does not match any style of 3 in use at the mint at the time, which suggests it was a freehand job. As we all write numbers differently it could just be down to that? That's my theory anyway -

Gold £2 Coins
argentumandcoins replied to Marie's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Hello Marie, If they are modern currency issue £2 coins they are worth £2 each. If they are gold or gold proof issues the values will depend on grade and rarity but will be in excess of £300 each even for the common ones. John. -

Silver book - Davies or Groom?!
argentumandcoins replied to Cerbera100's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Dave, An update of 19th century coins would be a tall order, but to take a bit of it such as overdates would perhaps be more manageable. I used a large number of images in writing 'The Standard Guide...'. Feel free to use these, as well as any on my website - I also archive pictures of coins I have sold, so always ask if you can't find what you want. I am sure that others on here will help in the same way. Any pictures/scans you would like from me you are more than welcome to Dave. -

Barton is a new man Peck, a reformed character. Probably the best in his position in the country at the moment and a massive part of the team. I hope he doesn't follow the traitorous Carrol out of the door this summer. -

Titus BUMBLE could have been a legend, unfortunately I think the pace of the game was just a little too quick for his lumbering frame on occasion. Mackems are welcome to him! -

"...but only if you're lucky" Apparently! Now here's a chance that must only come up once in every hundred lifetimes.... A roll of 2p coins I bought back in 1973 that seemed to have leaked! Steve, if they all say new pence and the Queen is on them wearing a necklace you should sell them on ebay; "cos sumone telled me that this a RARE coin and is gud for colectors and will be a gud invesment"

James II something?
argentumandcoins replied to a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
It's also Irish, from the civil war between the followers of James and William (Catholics and Protestants). They were issued as promisary pieces with the pledge that they would be paid in silver once the wee dispute was over. 322 years later and they are still not redeemable! -

Did anyone win anything at today's Spink sale?
argentumandcoins replied to Rob's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Lot 635 (copper and bronze x 39) a speculative bid on a speculative description. The lots I knew and bid accordingly on resulted in my arse being kicked! I had a go at their 1845 "star stops" Crown just for a laugh but it trebled the estimate (was being sold with 3 other crowns). Yes Rob, there's always tomorrow, although I expect to turn the other cheek and have it booted as well!!!! -
Florins ~ Such Fun!

I am a good Catholic boy and we were taught it as a core subject. I could never understand why as mass had stopped being said in Latin many years before. I then got interested in coins and realised that our head teacher must have been a numismatist!!
