Interesting article re 1954 Penny

I think I would have taken the trouble to have it verified if it were in my keep! -
This listing gave me a chuckle this morning...

It would also kill of the massive profits that the robbing barstewards make, a bit like Turkeys voting for Christmas. I don't even search on there now and was a little peeved to find a very rare 3d had sold via auction 4 weeks ago for less than £60. My own stupid fault but the plethora of pish puts me off searching! -
Let's See Your Copper Coins, Tokens, Or Medals!

The shop is Argentum and Coins, the user name john8150_0 Obviously if you see anything that takes your fancy I can save you some Pennies if you deal direct. The sellers fees are 10% so that's the very least you'd save. -

I always have a good few ont Bay Paul. Some very scarce, some high grade and some run o't Mill. -
It has to be the red dye on the insert to blame for the 73 coins. To find a mint set is very difficult whereas most 1970 sets are as issued. Bizarre and slightly annoying!

If only it was a picture of him on the treatment table at Newcastle whilst counting his huge wad of weekly sick pay I would have been in like a shot!

There aren't any words that can help you David but if you need somebody to listen just give me a bell any time. -
Shin Gunto Katanas are my bag. Sold my collection recently and will look at starting again once I get my property purchase completed.

I sold a perfect set on ebay a couple of months ago and the buyer complained that the card outer was rubbed on the edges!
-
How has the seller got positive feedback on those fakes he has already sold at 30x the price he obviously paid for them? If buyers are paying that sort of hard earned for quite obvious fakes it makes you wonder what their collections consist of and at what cost....

Poor Neymar is only reportedly to be on £500,000/week IF the PSG deal is ratified by La Liga. In a world where approx 3/5 of his countrymen live in tin shacks that is just fecking obscene! -
Some of the more recent stuff is making stupid money IMHO. The hype around the Kew 50p has sent the 2009 proof set prices through the roof (typically in excess of £200 in salerooms). The 2010 sets onwards are all fetching good money too. As a dealer I worry that the new collectors are focussed entirely on the tat that RM produce each year and real coin collectors are dropping off. Just my opinion based on observations.

Halfcrown and Penny LCA unsolds
argentumandcoins replied to argentumandcoins's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Fear not Richard, the estimates are only estimates (usually based on hammer paid) and I have instructed a little discretion if required I have had a look at the saleroom catalogue and there are odd coins scattered all over so my advice would be skip the section tags and work through the catalogue lot by lot as there are no gaps in the coins and they should run by sequential lot numbers. Good luck with your bids. -
Below is a copy of an email that I received today in relation to an online only auction that ended on Sunday. I was the "lucky" winner of 2 decent looking Victorian coins of Jamaica. My winning bid was a paltry £10. I was emailed an invoice on Monday and payment was taken later that day from my card details held on the saleroom.com. The total taken was £13.96, 36% commission plus 36p for bidding via the saleroom! Todays email: Good afternoon, We have an invoice for you relating to our sale on 10 May 2017. RE: LOT 1198 – Victorian Jamaican Half Penny I have attempted to call you today to no avail as it would appear that we have an incorrect contact number for you on our records. We are able to provide P&P on this lot to your address which would be charged at £12 plus VAT. Unfortunately the items have attracted storage charges as outlined in our T&Cs and on the emailed invoice. This currently equates to £20.00 . If the account is settled by close of business Monday I would be happy to reduce the storage charges by half. If I do not hear from you by close of business on Monday 22 May 2017 we will have no option other than to enter the items into the next available sale to recover the storage charges. Best regards, Warrington Auction 551 Europa Boulevard Gemini Business Park Westbrook Warrington WA5 7TP T:01925 658833 I phoned them immediately upon receipt and was told that their terms and conditions are clearly outlined on both the saleroom and the email that I was sent on Monday. If I wasn't knee deep in trying to sort out Dads estate I probably would have sorted postage on Tuesday (YES EVEN AT £14.40 for 2 small coins), but c'est la vie. I spoke with the office manager, some fella called Chris, and he was quite implicit regarding their terms. I told him he was probably sailing close to the wind legally but he repeated that their terms are stated on both the saleroom and their email to me. I'd like to see them justify £5/day storage for a halfpenny and a Farthing in a County Court but life is too short and my immediate circumstances mean life is too precious. The final result is that I have instructed them to put the coins back into their next auction and give the proceeds to the Air Ambulance. Their will be no charges to me other than the 15% commission plus VAT (wonders why he was charged 36% VAT inclusive commission to buy), which will be deducted from the sale price. Most auction houses charge no commission when selling on behalf of charities, then again Warrington certainly aren't most auction houses. They have the unique distinction of being the worst and most money grabbing firm I have yet to encounter! Please feel free to share far and wide (no risk of libel as I have stated fact only) and remember that if you deal with Warrington Auctions you do so at your peril....

How fast will verdigris spread on slabbed silver coins
argentumandcoins replied to youliveyoulean's topic in Free for all
Technically verdigris should not spread at all in a slab as they are supposed to be hermetically sealed.
