    THE NEW POBJOY MINT LOGO

Hi All, thanks for your comments. I didn’t expect everyone to love it. There is a distinctive link between a lion (national animal of the UK) and a castle (strong, traditional building) which when brought together in our modern twist on our old logo says ‘we are a British mint and we are traditional and established’. For those of you that don’t quite know the Pobjoy Mint background and therefore think that our logo doesn’t quite fit with what products we produce I’d like to tell you that Pobjoy Mint, Europe’s largest privately owned mint has a history dating back over 300 years. Successive generations of the Pobjoy family have been involved in every aspect of metalworking, from pewtering and tinsmithing to button-making, cutlery and precision engineering, as well as for the past 50 years concentrating on the manufacture of coins, tokens, medals and regalia as well as a wide range of jewellery and objects of vertu. The Pobjoy mint also has its very own ‘International School of Minting Technology’ to help new and developing mints with skills needed such as press operation etc’. Pobjoy Mint has also successfully built its own machines which have had a huge impact on the numismatic world as well as being one of the first in the world to create a new metal which is called viranium to be used to mint coins. So as you can see, Pobjoy Mint has a very colourful history and is a well established company, hence the reason for the strong established/British connection in the logo. I hope that now you can understand the logo more and Pobjoy mints background. The logo has also been with the company/family name for many, many, years, so long that it isn’t recorded when it 1st came into use. Thank you all for your feedback, keep it coming, its good to hear what you have to say….even if you would like to discuss coins or anything else for that matter. Many thanks Regards The Pobjoy Mint Team www.pobjoy.com Check out the new website launching Tuesday 3rd March.

    silver coins as scrap

Hi, I work for Pobjoy Mint and i am happy to give you advice. The price of Silver has risen in the last few weeks to almost £10 an ounce....That is the highest it’s been in a very long time. If I were you, I would just contact a number of different coin dealers and scrap merchants to get the best price, this is presuming you want the best price for your coins? Thanks The Pobjoy Mint Team www.pobjoy.com
  4. Hi, I have noticed you're asking for a valuation on a Pobjoy Concorde coin. First Question is what metal is it made from, how is it packed and does it have a certificate? The other thing I would point out, is that all Pobjoy Coins have face values and are actual legal tender currency, but the precious metal content in all the coins (except Cuni) are worth a lot more then the denomination of the coin. Therefore, it may be worth asking the question how much is the precious metal in this coin worth rather then for the actual coin design its self. Hope this makes sense. Help me please

Hi Paul, I work at Pobjoy Mint. www.pobjoy.com . Although we do not value coins we can give information regarding our coins and how and where to get them valued. firstly, if you did not have the certificate (which you do) you would be able to tell if it was a Pobjoy Mint coin by searching on either the reverse (if obverse contains the queens head) or obverse if it contains a coat of arms for a small descreet 'pm' park, this obviously stands for Pobjoy Mint and we put this on all our coins as part of security for fradulant coins and for people to recognise the coin as a Pobjoy Mint Coin. Now, as your coin is an Isle of Man 1980 it is without doubt a Pobjoy Coin. (Pobjoy Mint have been minting Isle of Man coins since the 1970's). If the issue limit is 1000 then the coin in theory should be worth more, but if the limit is 10,000 it might not be as valuable. That 'piece of paper' as you said is actually quite valuable to the coin, it is not just a piece of paper but a certificate that certifies the precious metal, the fact that it is a legal tender coin and has been approved by the government as well as buckingham Palace and the genuinety of the coin. The Proof 3 means that the coin has been struck 3 times to achieve a superlative mirror finish. My other advice to you at the moment is, the price of gold is rising and rising once in some cases twice a day, it is the highest its been for over 10 years, maybe even longer. If you are intrested in selling this coin then it is worth getting a valuation from a coin dealer. Have a look at Coin news publication, which can be found in any good WH Smiths stores. I know this post is not in conjunction with the date of the original post but i hope it can be of help to you and possibly others. Thanks Pobjoy Mint Team
