  1. Glad to send all the narrow dates I find - LOL - but please do send me the choice original red 1882 Londons,'64s, '69s, '71s that you find. I figure one for one on the '82, right?
  2. Oh, love those 1839-1970 pennies! NOT the "Hypervarietals" narrow date cr--. However, love the minor silver of Victoria also.

    10P That Looks Like A 5P

Well, minor clips don't get a lot of "play", but OMS (off metal strikes) and wrong planchets seem to do a bit better.... As above, need to see the coin if possible.

    Rupee 1904

I'm no expert in Indian, but the lettering looks very suspect from the letters themselves to their orientation and spacing...

    Steel Penny?

I have a couple that are either chrome or vanadium plated (I think) - I suppose post minting....
  6. Scarce coin, rare if you can find a fully struck obverse (think they may not exist) but more common that catalogue in VF-GVF. The half sov of London this 1879 date is actually equally scarce or perhaps a bit moreso with truly mint examples also quite rare. I'm thinking I may have seen more than five in the previous year...
  7. Good for the soul to sell a bit now and then, particular if you have a second passable example to keep. I have been forced to trade/sale some bits to get others and will sell seconds (even though I did let go an '03 Halfcrown that was the equal of the one I kept and am still a bit sad about). A couple of years ago I gave up nearly all aspirations of Vicky gold and dumped the lot for a nice profit... Go for it!
  8. Sell! I am with you on replacement being 600-800 pounds raw for a similar piece. Great for Newman, no doubt a wonderful man but I don't think that is worth a premium (or much of one) to me at least. I love and avidly collect 6d's as you know and would not touch it at such a price. Got mine from Baldwin some years ago for 400 quid.

    Recent aquisitions

That yours for sale on the bay of E? Good score there... I collect Franklin Mint to some degree but only would be marginally interested in these. Are there any mules with mixed obverse and reverses? Those would be of interest. PM me if you'd like...
  10. What did the gold 1924 sixpence go for?
  11. Besides the obvious blurry photo? 1879 Victoria Sovereign Ref DC10
  12. Hint: date "position". Ha ha...
  13. To diverge slightly, I wonder which you might prefer if given the choice? Proof or currency 1860 copper farthing?
  14. Well thanks for that, must be a bit of brain fade.....I think that is only an average struck obverse, decent reverse with better than average lustre. I still place that at 2k and think you should shop a bit & be patient. These auctions, and particularly the onlines (such as DNW) have been verging on lunatic prices. Just try and guess how much that would have gone for at Heritage with a slabbed Red and Brown 64 with lots of flowery descriptions!!!
  15. Must be me, but I can't find its sale. 2800 over the top IMO and 2k should have been fair. My recall was that it was NOT an exceptional coin. I am a bit suspicious of photos from LCA and if spending that much money am of a mind to have seen the specimen in hand or at least had a representative to do so. This is a scarcer date not doubt, but somehow see it up for sale more frequently at auction in "top grades" more often than we should.
  16. Goodness, they are what they are. We are not going to necessarily know intent, especially of the Royal Mint!
  17. OK, Rob probably knows the specifics but at some point there was a citation to the effect that a short run of pennies was required and some (59-60,000???) were struck with only a few - however many that was - getting out.
  18. I always think of the bottom loop of the "3" as being hammered or beaten down flat ( ie open).
  19. And the 1860/59 did circulate as evidenced by the condition of many extant specimens, many poorly struck and circulated even after the change to smaller modulus and less intrinsically valuable bronze bun head pennies.
  20. Me too Maybe another set or two also
  21. And I have an older SNC circular with one for sale....
  22. Hi JCC, Even though my concentration is late British Milled silver and copper (Vicky! throughGeorge 5) , I came to like the pursuit of these later Jamaica proof sets as well as some other Caribbean bits....Matte Jamaica gold from 1975-77 in 100D. denomination is prohibitively rare and interesting stories to boot. I actually got a 1999 from BOJ in about September of last year. I lucked up on the 1997 from a Canadian who had gotten it from a friend's wife after the friend had died. Do you have this date or the single crown with the Manatee design? The 1998 I got along with the '91 and '96 from a dealer in Jamaica that had gotten a run of sets. No trace of the 2002 that is listed in Krause even unto the detail of the Krause numbers of the coins in the set. Interestingly, according to them the crown in that set commemorates (!?) the World Junior Track and Field Championships. Yikes! A very interesting question that neither BOJ (despite my pleading and persistence) nor the Royal Mint have answered is that if the authorized mintage for the proof sets dated 1988-2001, then why are some dates much more common? Were there fewer actually issued of some dates like '96-'99 like I believe, or are there a bunch of sets lying around in some vault? I know that Cayman Islands and Barbados used the RM for sets during these years and had authorized mintages that were above and beyond the eventual "final mintages", or how many were actually made. PS - No 1986 sets made. PM me if you would like answers in private, or if you have some...
  23. I would not give that VIP set that much credit as far as penny rarity - just when might the next one (or two) show up? Not quite fair comparing to the Legendary 1933 date. I was a bit surprised that the 1922 penny outperformed the 1864 crosslet..
  24. No jousting for me either (again)....
