Fake 1933 Wreath Crown.
Gary D replied to Gary D's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Good to meet you as well Declan, It's nice to be able to put a face to a name. I did have a good day as I managed to pick an item that I had been looking for at a local boot sale earlier in the morning. I didn't buy anything from the Midland so perhaps not so good. -
Not to mention spelling and punctuation But it's in a slab - it MUST be all right! Come on guys cut him some slack. That's a mega rare copper edition, the bronze ones are ten a penny.

Dave, I think I married your wife's sister...my wife is the same! LOL I don't suppose she's one of triplets

1898 Gouby B With 8 Over Tooth
Gary D replied to tracyaw's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
But in 1549 was there just one mint? I did wonder if it coinsided with the introduction of the Gregorian calander but that was not until 1582. Perhaps Edward VI saw it in a dream and it's stuck ever since. -

1945 Recut, Double 9
Gary D replied to tracyaw's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
They are fairly scarce but there is also 3-4 different versions. They must have had a serious problem in 1945. -
The curl in the top of the 3 does it for me. Not an open 3.

Anyone Come Across...
Gary D replied to tracyaw's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I think you will find that the 9 has been recut not double struck. -
And what about the potage rate only 49.99!!!! On a more serious note I have noticed a trend from US sellers to ramp up the postage. I get the impression this is to put off foriegn buyers by charging Fedex/DHL postage prices because they think all us foriegners are a bunch of scammers.

Good Fine Mule £1,250 Any Takers?
Gary D replied to copper123's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
With the average weekly wage in 1930 being about £4 or 16 Crowns you could buy quite a lot for 5/-. I would suggest that up until the early twenteith century crowns were widely circulated. Even into the 30s they must have being in common use. -
Error......or Not ?
Gary D replied to RChris's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I remember...and just who was that girl/woman? Err what woman, are you thinking of The High Chaparrel (Linda Cristal) I presume we are talking television here? Leaving aside the name which is irrelevant. How irregular? Any worthwhile pictures? (says he in anticipation ) Linda Cristal played Victoria. I'm struggling to find any decent pictures of her.....or indecent -

Yeah, but if it was going too cheap, why wouldn't the seller just withdraw it from sale? An over-enthusiastic shiller would cost more in the long run. But you don't know what it's going to go for until the last 10 seconds, ttat's cutting it a bit fine to pull the auction. I'm not suggesting you should chase a buyer up but just place an approprate bid early on in the process. Just a bit of insurance.

I am having problems with my other account. When I use my work login Gary1000, for the last couple of days I sometimes see a permissions error but still get into the site and can post but I can't see the members area. The members area is always missing if I see the error message or not. When I log in at home as Gary D everthing is ok.

The reverse especially has a kind of 'cast' look to it. Looking at is closer the reverse looks to have the detached beads along the lower quarter. Could it be the Chinese one after a bit of a clean up......or another one.

Not so much a laugh but this crown just doesn't look good enough for a coin that would have had great care taken over its minting. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1934-GEORGE-V-SILVER-CROWN-/221259086536?pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item338411bac8

I have a chance of buying this coin so need a speedy reply. The coin on the left is a 1905 Shilling Obv1, the middle coin is an Obv 2. The one on the right to me look like an unrecorded Obv 2a. Does anybody agree.

I'm off as well, a week in North Wales. I have my oversized wellies for harassing the sheep , then a week in North Devon. Not sure what precautions I will need for there. Bragging again! Oh "wellies". You said "wellies". Yes wellies, to stick there back legs down to stop them getting away I have been told that a cliff edge is the best place as it make them push back more

I've often wondered about when the bank manager is on holiday. He must have a b****y good collection from all eras. My bank is full of modern decimal crap, wouldn't want it if given to me.

A good precaution would not be to tell the world wide web when you're away from home Slightly tongue in cheek, but you never know! The collection is in the bank and the son is in the house, they can steal him if they like and save me a fortune in University fees.

Gothic Crown Anyone?
Gary D replied to Coppers's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
The are whooping it up over on Collectors Universe because a coin crossed and got one higher grade. Still the same coin just a higher grade piece of plastic. -
I received a couple of shirts James May would proudly sport and yesterday treated to an all you can eat Chinese /Indian buffet in Witham. The best part was queenie's fly pass came over as we were parking the car. A very impressive sight.
