Yes a much under rated coin. I've managed to put the whole run together including the all types in BU except for the 1948 sharp corners.

Here is a better picture of the rims of the two varieties.

It looks like a broad rim. The reference is Davies 2412 which is a smaller reverse design (19.5mm) where he notes it has a broad rim. It certainly looks broader than normal. Davies prices it at x3 the normal variety, suggesting it is not that scarce. Yes definitely looks like one, I'm still looking for the 1955 broad rimmed schottish shilling

The 1945 double 9 comes in several varieties of doubling, short tail, inside loop showing, broken tails etc even with the 5 doubled.

Here's a rounded 1990 5p. I guess it's a bit like the chamfered rim 1911 2/6 proof and 1/- but a bit more chamfered.

There's another one coming up at the beginning of March. They have also moved their venue to Bracknall which is much harder for me to get too.

Going through my collection I noticed that I had a pair of 1918 florins with a distinct difference in the obverse. One has a wider rim with short teeth whereas te other has a narrower rim with long teeth. Is this variation listed anywhere as neither Davies or Rayner give a mention.

Now, I guessed that it was an Odv 3 from the 5 berries, 2 has 4 and the wavy hair over the ear.

I've also only have the one type. I thought I had got hold of the second one but it turned out that the seller was using a stock picture in his auction.

Gary Schindler posts on here regularly and knows his bronze. I'm sure he will have been in contact with the seller during the auction.

US companies grading non-US coin is always going to be open to errors just as any other nations companyies grading coins from elsewhere. One of my very early purchase on ebay was a slabbed 1902 penny. It was slabbed as 1902 penny MS63 if I recall correctly and had a 'buy it now' of $50. The coin was actuallt a 1902 low tide, needless to say, I couldn't push that 'buy it now' button fast enough.

Here is the unlisted, by Freeman, normal rim 1970 proof 1/2d. I don't now how scare it is but it has taken me a year to find one. I'm sure its scarcity will drop once people start to look for it.

Josie, There are two copies of the Peck book on www.abebooks.com. One is $192.00 USD and the other is $250.00 USD. Bob C. Just my opinion, but I borrowed a copy of Peck from my local library and found it disappointing. It had mostly been included in Freemans, at least the bits I was interested in. It's no longer on my want list.

For some time now I've been having problems editing posts. I hit the edit button and go in edit the post then when I hit submit it comes back with an error and everything is lost. The edit button also disappears from the original post. Any suggestions............apart from don't make mistakes in the first place

If one die is domed and the other cupped they would tend to self align to a certian extent, also when cutting sheet with shears or chisle it's far easier to chop it out rough than to get it nice and round.

The time limit must be very short indeed. I added a reply to a thread with an attached image. I instantly decided that what I really wanted was the image in the post. I hit edit, inserted the image, corrected a couple of spelling mistakes and hit submit, could not have been more than about 2 minutes tops. Perhaps the time limit is a bit short. A car forum I used to frequent had theirs set at about 20 minutes which seemed to work fine.

I've not tried it but putting the coin into a container or even an oven to heat would possibly give a more even tone.

I've just been having a look at the Alderly collection on the Colin Cooke site. Lot 177 is listed as a F176, this is the rare 1913 type and I'd expect to go for £150ish. Monday when it went live I phoned with the intention of placing a bid but was unsure as I was not convinced it was a 176 but the common 177. I spoke to who ever it was and we came to the agreement that it was in fact a 177. Now my gripe is, the auction still shows it listed as a 176 and has a bid £50. Now it is very good but £50 for a 177 is in my opinion a bit steep, so is the bidder still under the illusion that he/she is bidding on a 176.

The jury is still out as to whether there are 3 or 4 types. Freeman quotes 2 reverse types only. My coin at the beginning of this post is the narrow rim reverse not listed by Freeman. The narrow rim and wide rim are the same as the 1967 in that along with the rim width differences the narrow rim has the stroke of the D to a gap whereas the wider rim has the stroke of the D to bead. The wide rim variety seems to be by far the more common, but now the cat is out of the bag I'm sure they will appear more readily. Now the remaining question is; does the 1970 as with the 1967 appear in all 4 type combinations. Gary I should have said the coin at the start of this post is a narrow rimmed obverse not reverse. 495A and 495B are wide rim. If 2.& 4 are narrow rim. I think the only possible ray of light in all this is with coins on ebay, at least they will be within a grade or so if slabbed unlike some of the wildly optimistic offering we get now.
