Pennies & Halfpennies Listed on Ebay
1949threepence replied to Bronze & Copper Collector's topic in Items For Sale
Thanks, I'll pass on this occasion. But even if I'd wanted to pursue, it says under "shipping" in bold red "does not ship to United Kingdom". I assume from logical deduction that anywhere but the UK is no problem. Odd. -

My favourite scene from Fawlty Towers which cracks me up every time I see it:- "Don't mention the war" -
Thanks Gents.

Pennies & Halfpennies Listed on Ebay
1949threepence replied to Bronze & Copper Collector's topic in Items For Sale
It's extraordinary. Still can't find anything other than the 1881H. Actually, I might be interested in one of your F148's, depending on condition. Obviously though, I simply can't see it - for whatever obscure reason. -
What is it?

Although of course, it won't be Peter Nichols himself, as he's retired, at least from cabinet making. His business was taken over and is now run by a Nottinghamshire family. They do, however, look very much like the typical Nichols cabinet. I do, meanwhile, like the look of the cabinets made by Rob Davis who himself, is a coin collector.

The McGowan Collection
1949threepence replied to cathrine's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Not as far as I can remember Pete. The last delivery from the US was the 1897 O.NE penny from Bob, which came via the USPS tracking facility - which incidentally was absolutely brilliant. I thought the tracking might stop when the item left the USA, but it carried on over here until right until the Royal Mail guy knocked at the door and I signed for it - took 9 days, 4 over there and 5 over here. Steep - and that would be on top of the 20% buyer premium. So 40% over hammer price. Thanks Bob - useful info. -

I've never paid anything on coins from the States. They've always just been delivered straight to my door. Is it due to the way they are described on the packet and the value quoted? I have paid customs duty on two other items, both of which took weeks to arrive and had obviously been opened. -

Presumably then Bob, the coins themselves would also be currently located in Dallas awaiting the auction - or perhaps not? -

There you go, Ian. Comes as a PDF download, so can't link unfortunately. But if you google "Terms and Conditions of auction - Heritage Auctions" it should come up. -

All I can say is "wow", what a collection ! The 1860 UNC (not that far off BU) mule penny interests me greatly, but I fear I would be blown out of the water on bidding. By the way the link is here for convenience. -
Heads up on the late Hiram Brown penny collection auction
1949threepence replied to 1949threepence's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Hiram Brown Part 2, now runs to 4 pages. The additions are mostly pre 1860 copper pennies and halfpennies. -

I can't see anything other than the 1881H either. If I click "see other items" it just takes me back to the original page. -

Bugs at the moment
1949threepence replied to Chris Perkins's topic in Forum technical help and support
Looks good Chris. I thought at first the new black and white emoticons had replaced the originals, but scrolling down, I note they are still there, so won't take the hump lol 🐫 -
Silliness of the "Un-researched Purchase" Variety

Ah, so that's the reason. Well I'm not more deserving than you. Although I'm not a legend, more a leg end -
It's incredible the rubbish they come up with to try and rip off the unsuspecting punter.

Is the bottom falling out of the Penny market ?
1949threepence replied to secret santa's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
The fake news reference was only meant to be tongue in cheek. But the facts do show that there is no such Freeman type as the 10A. -
Is the bottom falling out of the Penny market ?
1949threepence replied to secret santa's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
It's misleading Bob, misled both of us. When I first saw it on the dnw site, I genuinely thought it might be a new type, which is why I bought the up to date 2016 Freeman book, expecting to see it in there. Somebody, somewhere, has deliberately made that up. What's the modern expression? - fake news -

I mean, 10A would fit perfectly, but it's just not a real Freeman type. Highly regrettable that they indulge in such tactics.
