What's happened today plays right into the hands of ukip especially given their unjust lack of influence in parliament whilst the pro remain SNP has 56 MP's from a fraction of the votes ukip got in 2015.

Nice coin , but proof isn't hitting me in the eye as it does with some. There are those which you can instantly see are the real deal. Like Steve's 1868 cupro nickel or copper. I know one of them had provenance from a Glendinning's sale in 1940. -
No. If bremain had won by the same margin as they lost, there would have been no more discussion and things would have carried on in exactly the same way as before. So in my view, nothing is up for debate now. We leave. Plus, we bow to the majority will, regardless of our own opinion. That is what democracy is all about.

I'm not a big proof collector, or at any rate haven't been up to now. But I would like a few in my collection. They will have to be obviously proofs as well. There are quite a few good early strikes, masquerading as proofs, and going for a very nice price. -

Eight, Matt - the 18, 20, 22, 25, 28, 29, 32 & 33. It shouldn't be too difficult to get a 26, but the others will be very to extremely difficult, even in low grade. Indeed, some, like the 19, 23 & 27, not to mention most of the proofs, will be virtually impossible. So if I get a 21, 26 plus one proof, I'll happily draw a line under the series, unless, by great good fortune, one of the aforesaid impossibilities, presents itself at some point. Could be an extremely long wait for any one of those real rarities, verging on the unique, to even come up for sale, let alone for me to be able to afford and win it. -

Well, courtesy of a private sale by Ian, I've managed to get my hands on a very nice Freeman 18, (2 + D), thus adding to my 1861 series. The coin looks much better in hand than on the photo, and, in hand, there is the merest hint of lustre trace in the devices. -

Well yes, both candidates seem to be corrupt, but it'll be a question of which is the lesser of the two evils. It does appear that the election will come down to what happens in the key swing states, such as Florida, Ohio. If Clinton takes those two, it's all over for Trump. Also very important are Georgia and North Carolina. She's already pretty much assured of some of the very large states such as California, New York, Washington and Illinois. Trump looks comfortable in many of the smaller states and the much larger Texas. It's going to be very interesting. link showing how the candidates are doing in the individual states -

Neat - NEF was my personal assessment, although maybe something was lost in the photography. They had the opportunity to see the coin in hand. There did appear to be some wear, notably to Britannia's fingers around the trident.

Excellent post and article. I think getting a decent coin photo is something which only comes with experience. The light factor and getting a tripod are all important.

Anyway, back to your original comment Dave. Do you have the remotest scrap of evidence that Agius, a non executive director at the BBC, seemingly without portfolio, who is married to a Rothschild, but is not the Director General of the BBC, as you first thought, has ever influenced news editorials at the BBC, and if so how? Also, what possible relevance does that have to the post Brexit good news story about Nissan?

Ended because you don't have a single piece of evidence to support what you assert about them, or about the guy who's married to a Rothschild.. As I said earlier, from observation they are not pro Brexit. What has any of that got to do with the initial post of mine that you commented on, Dave? As far as whether he has influenced anything at the BBC, I don't know - in any case you can't prove a negative. As far as worldwide, very probably. But the crucial point is that he is anti brexit, which contradicts your assertion. = 7½ I haven't posted any link about the economy. I simply referred to a good news story, which went against the usual gloom and doom narrative. Your Rothschild assertions against Agius are pure supposition, and not supported by what facts we do know about him.

Notwithstanding that exactly the same news regarding Nissan was on all the channels and all over the news media. Also, you've still not provided any evidence to support your assertion that a) Agius has significant editorial influence over the BBC news output, or b ) What precisely his background has got to do with anything. With regard to you not suggesting Brexit, your initial reply to me was on the back of a Bremoaner post by me, so if you're not suggesting Brexit, just what precisely was the point of your reply to me? Other than I might have head the news about Nissan on the BBC?

I would say toned NEF. Slightly weak strike possibly from a well used die, but shield is fully intact, and the fields are absolutely clean. No issues with the coin whatsoever, as far as I can see. Only worth a few quid at most, so not really worth having it slabbed IMO, but I'd be interested in their grading when you get it back. A respectable piece in any farthing date run, or year set.

Except that misrepresents precisely what I said. I wasn't commenting on their influence, merely stating you had no evidence to support the assertion that the husband of somebody from the Rothschild family would be acting as their personal mouthpiece, whilst in his role at the BBC. Moreover, do you know what Katherine's personal view is on the issue, let alone the personal view of Marcus Agius himself? Of course, if you do have any evidence to support your suggestion, then feel free to detail what it is. Incidentally Lord Rothschild's personal view was that Brexit would not be the best way forward, which runs counter to what you are suggesting, given that I'd commented on a post Brexit positive news story from the BBC - link

Quite possibly. The Mail are not renowned for the veracity of their stories, and some are almost pure fiction. Nevertheless, as long as the coin is genuine, then the minutiae of events leading up to its recent discovery as such, are irrelevant anyway. -
Well the BBC executive board can be seen here. It doesn't include Marcus Agius. He is listed elsewhere as a senior non executive director at the BBC link I watch BBC news quite a lot, and if anything, their bias has been on the bremain side, with a left wing flavour. I think you are exaggerating Agius's influence somewhat. He is just one individual amongst a number of senior staff, and doesn't appear to be in sole charge of anything. But even if he was, there is still no specific reason to presume that he would be deliberately skewing the news in favour of positive brexit pronouncements, simply because he's married to a Rothschild. That's a very tenuous assertion, which you have no evidence to support, other than supposition.

Tony Hall has been DG at the BBC since 2013. His wife is Cynthia Hall, who was formerly headmistress of The School of St Helen and St Katharine and then of Wycombe Abbey, both girls' schools, and president of the Girls’ Schools Association. They have two children. Looking at the wiki link on Tony Hall, he sounds like the right sort of chap for the job, to me. Very experienced in his field. I can't see any mention of Cynthia Hall having any connection to the Rothschilds, even when I google Cynthia Hall related to Rothschilds
