December 2021 LCA catalogue now posted

£1100 hammer - actually a decent price for such a quality piece. I bid for the 1797 pattern penny (lot 195), but made a mess of the bidding and lost it. Thought for a second as the bidding stopped, it was mine, but then as soon as the hammer went down realised it was still with the auctioneer's prior bidder, who'd obviously bid more. -

Actually, that's a very good point. I suppose it's become a bit traditional to post the LCA catalogue, but yes, as you rightly say, the DNW is at least as important. -

Yes. It was a bit strange really. I tried again last night on my PC and it still wasn't up. So I decided to give it a try on my tablet, and it worked. Then worked on my PC - all this within about 2 minutes. So it must have come back just before I tried on my tablet -

I've seen some really poor standards of written English from quite senior managers at work, such as:- "sort after" (for sought after) "Loose" (for lose) Could of, should of, would of (for have) "hail and hearty" (for hale) "your" (instead of you're) - very common mistake this one. "mite" for might "there" for their are typical examples - and of course, because they're real words in their own right, often spellcheck doesn't pick them up. I agree with Richard about "literally". Its overuse does get very irritating. -
Ridiculous that Brexit should affect private post, either way.

In addition to the 1854 PT above, I've now managed to obtain an 1854 OT at below book price, also in UNC with considerable lustre. Really pleased. Keeping my original scruffier 1854 OT though, as the colon dots after DEF are very close together.

That's literally insane.

This is now the third time in recent months that I've bought from the same very good e bay seller. A real quality item at below book price. He offers economy postage @ £2.75, and on the previous two occasions I've asked if he could possibly send via next day tracked, and I'd happily make up the difference. But he sent them next day tracked, with no additional charge. I'm hoping he will do so again, if I ask nicely. I'm no expert on charges from the seller's point of view, but would I be correct in assuming that if I elected to pay by credit card rather than paypal, the seller would gain via avoidance of paypal charges? I've no idea whether he'd get a separate charge from my use of a credit card. Thanks in advance.

Paypal vs Credit Card

What, the money of your international customer? I know paypal is convenient, but like you, I'm not particularly keen on them, after a negative experience in 2018. For my latest purchase I did pay by credit card which the buyer thanked me for and assured a delivery by next day tracked. On its way. -

He certainly made a complete pig's ear of the speech, which will definitely not bring home the bacon. In fact, with all his porkies can anything now save his bacon? The room was fair crackling with embarrassment for him. It was a rash speech - in fact it couldn't have been much rasher. Boris is all pork and no action ! -

Interesting. Slants well over to the right. Never seen that before. -
Agreed. It's not the force it once was as far as coins are concerned.

There's another article by Dracott in the November 2021 edition of Coin News, which includes some new halfpenny varieties discovered. Thought it might be of interest to those who haven't yet seen it, so took a screenshot of the intro and the part relating to halfpennies. I had to expand the article to read it, and even after compression the two parts still take up three posts.

Although in their favour, and to balance things up ⚖️, you do pay over 10% less buyer's premium than say, DNW. But yes, LCA real time online bidding would be great. -
