1746 lima sixpence with loads of errors
chris replied to chris's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
The first one is a flaw from the base of the F which then passes below the legend to the right. The second is just a double cut 1. The third could be due to a filled die or weakly punched in the first place. The fourth again looks to be a flaw. It doesn't appear to be a 1746/5 which is a recognised variety. I don't think there is anything to get excited about with this coin as all the evidence suggests it is struck from a worn die that may or may not have had remedial work done to extend its life. As it isn't in the best condition it is difficult to say precisely. hhello again everyone. i have just found this photo on a coin dealers website. this coin is being sold as a 1746/5 sixpence and looks exactly the same as mine with the same errors in the same place is this dealer right or wrong? -

one other thing is the number '7' in the date also looks different from comparing 6 other coins. would they have used the an old die from 1745 but possibly re-tooled it? -

1887 sixpence jeb on truncation rarety
chris replied to chris's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
indeed it is a sixpence what you will notice is the shoulder is a lot more smoother than a shilling and it also seems that the strike seems to be poorer than a shilling heres another example of another jeb on truncation here which is exactly the same as mine but obviously not as good condition. lol -

hello everyone one of my latest finds while metal detecting is this rather strange medal of some type saying state prohibitation. now i am led to believe that there was an alcohol ban or something like that anyway the front of this item has a rose at the bottom, a coat of arms which is the same as a shield back sovereign and three figures with the sun beaming down on them. ther reverse of this item is a picture of the globe which is round so it must have been made after the 1600s if anyone could shine a little light on this coin/medal id be chuffed to bits thanks

1897 one penny high tide variation
chris replied to chris's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
hi again sorry ive bin away for a while my internet had gone down i am trying to upload a photo of the coin but am getting no luck. my coin isnt in as good condition as the one above as its been in the ground for well..... quite a while and little bits of the edge has broken away due to verdi. the detail of the coin though i would say is very good and still retains a lot of detail on both sides. after looking at the uploaded photo there might be a chance that it isnt the high tide aswell. doh!!! i will keep trying to upload the photo though -
hello everyone i have recently found a penny while metal detecting this is to be an 1897 one penny i would say at least vf condition preserved well in the ground due to clay like soil. i have cleaned the coin up and was about to put it in with the rest of me penny finds and found that it was a high tide variation thanks to mr perkins,s collectors coins gb 2009, which in every coin i find i checkup with this book, i have looked on fleabay for this item but cannot find one for sale. does anyone have a clue on its value or any interest in this coin thanks everyone
