1921 penny detector find with strange reverse!
chris posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
gooday to everyone yesterday i went metal detecting on a local piece of farm land and unearthed a 1921 penny. i put it in my pocket and thought nothing of it until i started to clean it on cleaning i noticed the date was pressed into the coin as was the whole of the reverse of the coin. now i know pennys and this detail normally sticks out of the coin not into it condition of te coin isnt the best but i have included a scan of it maybe someone here can shed some light on the subject the obverse of the coin is a little better than the reverse but seems normal -
edward 1906 shilling type 2a does it exist
chris posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
hi fellow collectees i have in my possesion a 1906 silver shilling now i dont collect these as a rule but aquired this one as a lot. i then decided to check a website for that year to see what it was worth as this person has hundereds of good grade coins. the coins that he had were only type 1 and 2 with no mention of a 2a for that year and the only 2a versions were 1903 and 1904 which were considerably more expensive than 1 or 2 so as i do i went on and checked and im 99% sure this ones a 2a on comparison am i right? and what would it be worth? thanks peeps -

possible fake 1818 sixpence?
chris replied to chris's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
ye got mine from the wonderful world of ebay. lucky enough mine was advertised a fake from the beginning. i think it was worth the few pounds i payd for it. dont think il be buying anymore in a hurry though. interesting to see that everything on the auction you have showed is a pretty good copy minus the spines on the rim which is the obvious giveaway thanks pekris -
gooday everyone i have recently bought an 1818 sixpence that i think is a good coin but it has a colour of brown on the high points of the coin. overall the coins condition is rather nice and there is very good detail in the coin i ave added a photo of the coin to show everyone and my thinking is that it is real but whatever the coin was stored in has left behind this nasty looking colour what do you think fake or real

How do you store your coins?
chris replied to mint_mark's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
all my coins go into plastic capsules then into a 6 tray briefcase. when its full i just get another one, as these coins come out often soi also keep a tray for things i want to leave out of capsules just to tone a little more why. bother with a safe or storage at a bank i know people who just make seceret spaces around the house and hold them there and nobody would be the wiser, just dont loose your memory because that would suck!!! -

what on earth has happened hear to this 20p
chris posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
gooday people i have found a 20p coin minted in 1982 got it in some change today and on close inspection i noticed a semi circle on the obverse side so scanned it up when i got home and saw that it looked like it was there before the coin was minted as you will see by the scan then on closer inspection it sort of resembles the top part of the 0 in 20 from the obverse of the coin anyone got any thoughts and feelings over this? -
1696 sixpence with suspect D in GVLIELMVS
chris posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
HELLO FELLOW PEOPLES I HAVE THIS 1696 SIXPENCE AND REALISE THERE ARE A FEW VARIATIONS FOR THIS COIN. ON PROPERLY LOOKING AT THE COIN THE FIRST "L" IN GVLIELMVS LOOKS LIKE A "D" FIRST I THOUGHT IT MIGHT HAVE JUST BEEN AN EXTRA PIECE OF METAL AND DUE TO THE TONING ON THE COIN IT DIDNT MEET IN THE MIDDLE BUT WHEN ANGLED INTO THE LIGHT IT MEETS IN THE MIDDLE TO RESEMBLE A NICE LETTER "D" THOUGHT I WOULD POST THIS TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE HAS ANY THOUGHTS ON THE COIN IT IS HARD TO SEE IT AS THE TONING COVERS THE END OF THE LETTER BUT I CAN SEE IT ON AN ANGLE THANKS -
