2250 was quite a lot more than you paid for it no ? where have I got to ? I've done a Declan, I'm now a stockman 100 miles from home, I work 12 hour days, 7 days a week and it's taken me ages to get the 'net sorted. Haven't seen my pennies for 2 months..... -

OK, well, on the assumption that it is kosha (and it does look it) don't send it to CGS - they'll bodybag it for the cleaning and you'll have wasted your dough. Probably wise to check out PCGS's stance on cleaned items ? Shame, but keep going, roll with the punches and come up smiling ready for another -

CGS grading service

Are you looking at CGS? There's actually 6,536 year 2000 sovereigns in the PCGS population report right now. Yes, I was, sorry if we were talking at cross purposes. 6536 in the PCGS is still mad, but then if you look on ebay you will see that the vast majority of PCGS coins are modern proof issues. Don't get it myself, but the game in the states seems to be to buy the latest mint issue, get it slabbed and then try to sell it for twice what it's available from the mint for.... Take this for example: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2010-LIBERTY-EAGLE-1-DOLLAR-SILVER-1oz-COIN-PCGS-MS70-/400156182994?pt=UK_Coins_USA_RL&hash=item5d2b2ac9d2 Now, on the assumption that that coin is available from the mint for, what ? $50 ? and lets say a PCGS accreditation costs $20 that's $70 which is £43.50. Now what kind of a Donkey is going to pay £99 for one ? This behaviour is a major difference between the US and UK markets, here it doesn't happen, hence 2 2000 proof sovs against 6536. -

There aren't 6500 year 2000 sovs on their population report - there are 2. So I don't know what's happened there. That's all I was saying. -

Hmm I get that they have slabbed 16007 coins, of which the most popular are, Sov 2520, Shilling 2039, Penny 1502, Sixpence 1497, Halfcrown 1396. 6,500 year 2000 sovereigns leapt out at me as an insane figure when I first read it - I couldn't deal with it. I became highly stressed, started hyper ventilating and I had to check. Everything is quiet again now.... -

We actually have a PCGS certified grader in Munich. I emailed the Frau at the new PCGS place in Paris and she gave me a list of German PCGS approved graders, one of which i met last week at the Munich coin fair, but i know the guy, or know of him in Munich, he has a shop in one of the poshest districts in Munich, so after its in hand and obligatory pics taken, weighed and measured i'll be heading directly over to him for (more authenticity) and grade of the 1905 Halfcrown Taking it's time to arrive isn't it ? Is that a whiff of fish..... -

Isn't that true and what does that say about our society ? Is one defined by one's worst moments, however rare ? I'm lucky, I'm still 100% after 8 years, both buying and selling, but probably only because I've had to swallow a few bitter pills whilst selling. Do agree 100% with what 1949 is saying though, a putative buyer wants to see an oasis of calm, not a fist fight - however unfair/wrong that may be... -

Well sir, you are certainly providing some entertainment, what with your moves and the most excellent recent glut of unfortunate spelling mistakes, who needs the telly ? Let us hope that is a good 'un and you can make a turn on it. -

To be honest, given the subject matter, I'd be surprised if he was wrong. If it was me, I'd de-list it and send a scan to the BM asking for clarification, they are pretty good at things like that (and it's free) -

Not that my opinion's worth a can of beans, but it doesn't look too much like the 1170 picture in my copy of Spink ? (2004) The lettering doesn't tie up to my eye, mind you, it then goes on to say Danish types of various designs, which means what exactly ? An email to the British Museum perhaps ? -

I hate predictive texting and refuse to use it after agreeing to meet some friends at 'The Cock Tavern' (OK, bad enough in itself). When I checked what I'd sent I was meeting them at the 'Anal Tavern'! Bizarre. Highly amusing however. Doesn't sound my kind of place though... -

I'm not a wise head, far from it, but you're proposing to 'bed and breakfast' a coin you haven't even seen in hand yet during a dealers return window and you haven't fully decided which medium you are going to use to sell, let alone a buyer ? Then there are known copies in play and you're making promises to your family like that ? You've always been fast mate, but one can be toooo fast. Slow down a bit, spend the next 3 months buying books, take up pipe smoking, and breathe.... x -

For me, that's the big one. Neither did we have internet forums where we could instantly post pictures to ask for peers opinions. Neither did we have forgers stalking us. Pre and post internet coin collecting, IMO, are two different sports.
