True! In the meantime I'd found probably 3 1946 ONE' flaws, with virtually no excitement whatever - yet Gouby rates them rarer than the 26ME.. (Mind you, they weren't listed anywhere except Peck as a footnote; certainly not in Seaby's.)

Mystery solved. The square icon HAS gone as part of the new layout, but there's a new set of drop down menus one of which is "Products"; in there is OneDrive. But you know what they say in software - "If it ain't broke, we'll fix it".

Can anyone solve this mystery for me? I have a Microsoft Live account which I only use for the free 5GB storage it offers. I always used to access OneDrive by logging into the hotmail account, then selecting OneDrive from the little square icon representing the apps associated with an account. Just recently, I've done the same thing - logged into my hotmail account - and there is no way to access OneDrive or any other app from there. That little square icon of tiny squares has gone. What gives? How do you access your OneDrive?

Since when was the MG "mid-engined"?

Given to me as a schoolboy in 1968 - in change, from a bus conductor! I'd only just started collecting, and I didn't have any 1926. It was many months before I realised (oh happy day) that it was an ME. Blakey - one very similar to yours (but with an attractive green patina) went for over £300 at Warwick & Warwick, back in 2001.
-
Now withdrawn Someone trying to prevent the sale! Actually, both his coins are unique - there's no other quite like them.

Done. (The 'replica' shamrock is clear as day).

Don't mention it, sweetie

George V and Edward VII have similar portraits. If facing right and dated 1902-10, it's Edward and the legend says EDWARDVS, if facing left and dated 1911-36, it's George and the legend says GEORGIVS. £ to a penny yours is George.

it's a penny - the 2d (for unknown reasons) has a proportionately larger head in relation to the central area within the raised rim.

Yes, M.E. - and very rare in that grade. GEF with dark red lustre - you're looking at a £1k coin minimum.

Quite nice coins but horrible tones.

Here's what you can do: 1. get some silver dip (Goddards) 2. lower the ugliest coin into the dip for a MAXIMUM 10 seconds 3. rinse immediately and thoroughly, and DAB (not wipe) dry with a clean towel If it works but not sufficiently, then repeat ONCE ONLY. Good luck! -
Wonder how many people took them up on their offer of a £1 banknote instead of gold? Not many, I'd wager.

Wow, someone got a bargain! If I'd known about it I'd have bid on it.

And that's WITH "For the sake of completeness, a few spots of foreign matter are noted around Victoria's head". You mean, the coin would be incomplete without a few spots of foreign matter???
-
What actually was the price? (Doesn't give it on that link).

They wouldn't be allowed to call themselves MailOnline and use the logo, if they weren't part of the same group. They'd have been taken down or sued long ago.
-
What you say is "fake news"! The Mail Online is absolutely the online arm of the newspaper (aka xenophobic toilet paper). This is what the site says: MailOnline publishes content produced by its own editorial team as well as content from the Daily Mail newspaper and The Mail on Sunday newspaper. If you wish to contact MailOnline, Daily Mail or The Mail on Sunday, please choose the appropriate tab below.

I would certainly say that any listing claiming any bronze coin dated 1971 was "ultra rare", is neither reliable or trustworthy. In fact, it's a downright untruth. Any journalist who accepts such garbage on face value, is a fool.
-
Worse still is the apparent belief that eBay listings are reliable and trustworthy.

Is that the edition split into three horizontal strips so you can compare particular obverses and reverses side by side? I have that one, and wouldn't part with it - very clever idea.

Coin Conservation / Restoration. Is it cleaning?
Peckris replied to markflorida's topic in Free for all
If a coin has been 'improved' by a careful act of cleaning, then I see nothing wrong with that, in fact I would applaud it. There are a mix of positive actions, such as gentle washing, extremely brief dipping to remove ugly tarnish, the application of surgical spirit to remove surface grime, acetone, or the long term soaking in olive oil to remove corrosion, etc. They are all cleaning, but can be done with care and attention. However, if a coin LOOKS cleaned - polished, unnaturally toned by dipping, or covered with hairlines - then that's a Bad Thing and will negatively affect the coin's value.- 20 replies
