1587 with Obv legend starting at 12 O'clock and with a point under letter 16 ie under the E of ET would indicate Dijon mint CGKL 44 Early French coins use "secret marks" to indicate mint and were gradually replaced by letter designations, although the secret mintmarks were officially replaced by letter designations in 1540 This double tournois has both the archaic mark of a point below the 5th letter of the obverse legend (the I of HENRI) and the more modern T both indicating the Nantes mint. The point beneath the 1st 8 of the date on the reverse is thought to be the mark of the engraver Mg Come Menard David

Ones I have and would recommend, worth checking earlier secondhand copies on Ebay - prices may be outdated but relative rarity still valid France Le Franc 10 - (2014) 1795 to 2001 -excellent better than Gadoury in my opinion - prices in Euros, most varieties covered, copious notes Repetoire General des Monniaes de Louis XIII a Louis XVI - Droulers (2012) 1610-1793 - prices in Euros, most varieties covered, copious notes Le Mercure des Monnaies Francaises - la Revolution Droulers (1996) 1791-1794 prices in French francs. but still the best detailed reference for this period all the above in French only Greece Hellas Coins Karamitsos (2007) good coverage of all pre Euro issues from 1825 - text in Greek & English. prices in Euros Spain My Spanish Catalogue is ancient - text in Spanish & prices in Pesetas Catalogo General de la Mondea Espanola Edifil (1981) Spain & colonies 1700-1868 - rather odd layout but good coverage Italy Catalogo Nazionale delle Monete Italiane dal '700 all 'Euro Gigante (2013) Italy & Colonies plus Italian States 1732 up to the Euro - text in Italian prices in Euros I'm still looking for a decent German Catalogue I also have catalogues for the Netherlands, Portugal, Brazil, Argentina, & Scandanavia - plus some more specialized French books. Most national catalogues cost no more than the first decent coin you will buy for that country - always a worthwhile investment David

All eBay sites are part of Ebay.com - so the same account name & password works for all of them - exception is their S.American associates that are variants of Mercadolibre.com , again one time registration works across the different national sites

Extraordinary , this from http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=177838 "There are only 3 in MS-62, there are more of them around but it is a very rare coin. Apparently they discovered the DDO at the mint very early in the production run and managed to condemn and destroy most of them before they ever go out. Add to that the misfortune that someone decided to make counterfeit 1969 PLAIN DDO cents. The Secret Service confiscated a bunch of the 1969 S DDO cents along with the 69 plain fakes. A few of the 69 S coins were eventually returned but most of them were destroyed by the SS as counterfeits before it was determined that they were actually genuine Mint issues. In all grades there are probably between 20 and 50 known today. And it is probably closer to the low end of that estimate."

This one arrived this morning This on first glance is a 1662 schilling minted for Riga in Latvia in the name of Christina of Sweden, however it is copper not silver. Took me a while to correctly attribute - It is in fact a Romanian coin - counterfeits were made in Suceava, probably by Titus Livius Boratini (between 1661-1663), during the reign of Istratie Dabija (1661-1665) and probably this activity was continued by the following rulers of Moldavia – Gheorghe Duca (1665-1666, 1668-1672 and 1678-1683) and Ilias Alexandru (1666-1668). The schillings minted in Suceava are struck in copper alloy, some of them having traces of silvering, with a poor technical execution, with wrong legends etc. see http://romaniancoins.ancients.info/falsuri.htm Having great fun with these remarkably cheap little hammered coins, this one £2.20 plus £2 postage David
