Krause World Coins list the penny at $6 in F, $15 in VF, $35 in EF and $80 in UNC if they are genuine Not my area of expertise, but they are quite scarce, just 20,000 minted The 1/2d and the 6d are even rarer apparently, just 2,000 and 2,500 minted respectively Yours look to be at least EF grade, but a note of caution they could be modern copies, do you have any provenance? Hope this helps David -
Simple numbers from Court's article - I don't think this variety was recognized before the 1960's so none would have been cherry picked when new

Here's mine GF?? never seen a photo of a higher grade Not a clogged die, definitely a different font David

I was watching this and left a speculative $10 snipe. Could this be die number 1 ??? enlarging the seller's picture did not help. My snipe outbid before it was made $32.45 for a crap 1863, I wonder.................... David -
Modern coin varieties as known in 1970

I'm still waiting for the 1920 penny, missing colon dot after IMP to be recognised for the valuable rarity that it is (although I do have 2 of them, so one ready to sell when it happens ) I've seen a couple of 1919KN with missing colon dots on ebay, but ropy pictures/condition didn't tempt me David -
My Krause had $200 for UNC, possibly low for this mintage Given the buouyency of the Russian antiquities market, $800 might be possible for one in TOP grade, but even allowing for US grading I wouldn't rate his coin as better than VF David

Modern coin varieties as known in 1970
davidrj replied to Peckris's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
the difference is minimal slight difference in the alignment of the N they appear to be about 50/50 in my small hoard of 1918 KN, but to be frank I soon got bored and haven't checked them all The "bird's foot" obverse flaw is scarce ?1/10, and appears to be paired with both reverse types David -

Gouby's book on pennies 1860-1869 states that Heaton did produce lots of the pennies 1860-3 but no "H" on these. He states that the 1863 with die numerals were probably Royal Mint strikings -
1922 Penny with rev of 1927
davidrj replied to Accumulator's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I do not want to know about 1911 pennies. I don't. I don't want to have to look. I don't you know I don't don't don't... Relax! There's four 1913, two or three 1915 and 1916, two 1920, 1921, 1922, and at least four 1926 apparently. I should major on the 1927 - 1936 series - the only date with varieties you need to worry about is 1933 Until someone finds the hollow neck, depressed ear 1923KN muled with the 1927 reverse! <fx> ducks David -

F:D: + The Royal Mint last struck their pennies in 1915, All Lizzie pennies were struck in one of the Australian mints I don't know where the dies were made NEW ZEALAND 1953 - 65 QUEEN . ELIZABETH . THE . SECOND + ? Royal Mint SOUTH AFRICA 1953 - 60 ELIZABETH II REGINA ? struck in S.Africa I don't think BRITT OMN was ever used on any colonial coins, (but I'm not sure about denominations other than pennies) David -
The 1926 ME penny
davidrj replied to 1949threepence's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
In the days of collecting pennies from circulation, I could spot an ME a mile off..... totally different expression, sadly they almost always turned out to be 1927 when turned over David -
I'm not suggesting that Gouby X exists in 1912 However there are two "hollow" neck shilling dies for 1911 plus the "round neck" I don't know whether there is a third die type for 1911/2 pennies , if there is, then the difference is minimal. But I would suggest that these slight neck hollowings (real or artifactual) are what was observed by Freeman, and that he never saw the Gouby X obverse

Maybe he went to China for his last holiday!

Interested to see this listing of 8 1912H pennies, definitely a hint of "hollowness" in the two top left Could this be where the confusion arises re the reported hollow necks for 1912? None look to have border teeth prominent enough for Gouby X Are there two dies here with Gouby X being a 3rd variant in 1911. or can we put this down to strike quality?

reasonable P&P Not!
