EU referendum - in or out?
davidrj replied to 1949threepence's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
The fact is that the UK has a Labour shortage from the EU. It's such a shortage that we also have to import labour from other countries outside the EU as well through the Home Office Points Based Immigration System. In the UK our NHS, hospitality, service, and farming sectors (amongst others) depend on migrants from the EU and the rest of the world. Without them our economy would simply fail. There are 2.2m UK citizens living and working in other EU countries, and around 2.4m people from other EU countries living and working in the UK. Thats a net difference in the UK of just 200,000 people. Not exactly being over whelmed in the UK with a population of nearly 70 million people are we? So presumably for the sake of the UK economy they don't want to reduce immigration this way. So what is it they want? BUT THEY ARE TAKING ALL THE BENEFITS shout the Brexiteers. This is also not the case. For each £1 taken out in welfare and benefit payments by EU migrants they contribute £1.34 to HM Treasury in taxes, not only covering their own welfare costs but contributing to Brits on benefits too. -

Which would you choose ?.

Agreed! I have 3 1875H gap fillers The middle one that looks as though it's been sand-blasted is a Gouby 1875 Hf, with recut obverse lettering So not likely to find an upgrade anytime soon on my budget -
For those who like mint errors

I've never really bothered with farthings, they were out of circulation by the time I started collecting, but over the years I've accumulated some and thought it might be nice to complete a simple date set (most are pretty dire ex circulation) So help with this 1865 please The 8 looks fatter than the descriptions of fat 8 for 1865, is this an 8 over 8?? also something under the 5?

That nice 2mm has been taken down due to "an error in listing"

If we are showing really ugly pennies, thoughts on this one. A 1919 KN with severe dandruff, flakes have fallen off both sides, some patches showing lustre. Some have suggested fire damage, but I'm more inclined to think severe lamination problems Whatever the history, it's a shame - would have been a decent grade for a 1919 KN otherwise -

I read somewhere that London Transport are the main users of £2 coins, to give change in their ticket machines

Definitely normal obv 2, no space after GRA: There are reports of 1912s with a hollow neck, but I don't think these have either been confirmed or have the attributes of Gouby X

1897 penny double dot serifs
davidrj replied to terrysoldpennies's topic in Confirmed unlisted Varieties.
My example has no dots, do I have the rare one? Seriously any idea of the incidence? 1897 high tides are very scarce to begin with, so worth everyone here who has one to check. The OH penny has only 1 obverse type, so probably most of us haven't given any of the series more than a cursory look. -
Could be Rob. A curio for now labelled as F.292a slowly trying to upgrade the washers I saved from circulation, only 4 short of a basic date set 1860-1970 in clear date, delighted to get this one from French Ebay a while back for €20. Freeman has this as R13, rarer than both the 1869 or 1871 pennies, shows how inflated penny prices are. So 2016 is going to be the year of the halfpenny for me

probably the only chance you will ever get for owning a 1954 penny cardboard coins

Ok - first thread. Any thoughts on this odd 3 (bottom picture) in an 1863. Crap condition so perhaps just wear giving an odd appearance

looks like it! colon dots after IMP to tooth - I thought the British Museum coin was regarded as unique??? Mine is a classic F188 with clogged 2 and off-centre reverse strike on a streaky flan, as per Freeman's description
