    Anything else?

Okay, penny not halfpenny, missed that, I was going by the digit shape, Freeman 89, but the 6 is still double-thick at the base.

    Anything else?

On the 1876H with the double 6; as I look at it again, it appears that a 6 was punched and then again a second time, but the punch had moved down slightly and left a bit showing at the top right. The bottom of the 6 looks to be much wider than the two shown on the 1876H wide and near dates, earlier in this thread. The second smack with the hammer left a second impression at the bottom where the two bottoms overlap (how cheeky!)

    Anything else?

The more I look, the more I find. 4p 1838. All the letters of REGINA are doubled to the right. FD and the bottom 2 stops are doubled on the top.

    Anything else?

How about an 1862 penny with an oval stop joined to the rim?

    Anything else?

1 Penny 1876H - I have a narrow date with a double 6, showing to the right of the circle a ridge at the bottom.

    Variety listing

Could someone please lead me to a site with a list of British coin varieties? I've seen Colin Cooke's name mentioned on this site (address?), or any other good ones that I should know about. Thanks.

    1843 half farthing

Try putting it in penetrating oil (the kind that is used to loosen nuts from bolts), for 5 minutes, then use a toothbrush. The brush won't scratch copper. If it doesn't come off, try another 5 minutes. Sometimes when the rust comes off there may be some pitting underneath and if you soak it too long the colour will start to change. Don't try it on silver.

    1675 farthing

I've now registered. My main interests are Canadian decimal coins, and Canadian Colonial tokens, but also like pre-1800 British coins. Here is a picture of the 1675 farthing with the R over O, and at the top of the photo is a 1673 farthing with a die break joining and going through the last O. (first time trying this so bear with me if I mess it up)
