  1. Would appreciate some help with this coin or medallion please. I think (by the French wording) it is of French origin. Is this a coin / medallion or peice of junk? It has no value minted on it, that i can see,ive tried many internet searches to try to find a similar one?. It is gold in colour but im 99.9% sure that it is not gold On the side as shown there is some wording & a mark of sorts, from the best of my ability i can only make out that the wording say "CLIVRE" or "OLIVRE" with the mark of sorts at the side? As you can see from the photos it is a large coin / medallion...Help please if you can. cheers Sorry could not upload images of the wording on the side due to maximum file size allowed.
  2. Firstly, Once again for all the help, time and support given by members of this forum..cheers Could i get the OK from a MOD or owner of this site in order to put a link up so that either or both SCOTTISHISMONEY & PECKRIS could have a look at the site and medal i am quoting from, hopefully this will help in determining the authenticity of the medal that i have??? I didnt want to just put the link up as i feel this would be rude Peckris , the other problem that i have is i was given the coins and medal from my Dad who no longer wants them and i personaly have no interest in them (as such), so what i am trying to do is go through them slowly and try to find out as much information on them but i have come up against a BIG problem, that being.. there is so much information to take in on each particular coin, i genuinly did not know how mcuh information is contained on each coin? I will continue my research but leave the collecting to THE PROFESSIONALS Thanks to all who help ..cheers
  3. Thank you, yes one of the pennies has got a touch of "the green" on it. When you say about the Elizebeth II 1961-63 penny do you mean..1961 /2/3 or just 61 & 63? You see, im still learning the terminology and basics and finding it very hard to say the least. cheers everyone for your advise input and time
  4. Hello, I have been going through a bag of Farthings they date from 1881 onwards. But i have come across something that is puzzleing me a bit and wonder if anyone could clear things up a bit? As you can see from the photos i have a 1917 which is a completely different colour from all the others, this particular colour is the only one out of them all that i have, is there something in this or just wear and tear over the years? Any comments appreciated cheers
  5. I may have solved one part of this? After further extensive researching this is what i have come up with, would like to now know your thoughts on this please? It seems that this is a medal However its is from the Napoleon Era / or representing that era. Ive been able to gather this information: Translation Invalides Napoleon's body: on back: Troops riding a staircase carrying a coffin and are welcomed by France, dressed in mourning, which tends branches of palm and olive. At bottom right, the warship that carried the ashes of Napoleon STE. Helene, left the church of the Invalides. Above, an eagle which is placed the emperor surrounded by rays. Excerpted smooth. Engraver: Montagny Mm 53 - AE gilt Struck in 1845-1860 (COPPER and pointing hand on The Edge) The one that i have been able to veiw where i got this information from, is by looks exactly the same as mine. Now i do not know IF my one is : A) re-strike a fake C) or possibly "real" Unfortunately still no nearer to finding a value though...oh well, will get there in the end? many thanks SCOTTISH for your help mate cheers
  6. Thanks again SCOTTISHISMONEY. I have tried for nearly to days to get some more information on this object but ive got no further. With the information you gave me and some research i had done unfortunately im no near the end The translation i done using an online source has come up with words that make no sense really when put into English, this has left me puzzled? The wording on the object is as follows: "HIST.DE LA REVOLUTION. DE L'EMPIRE DE LA RESTAURATION ET DE LA MON. DE 1830" at the bottom of this object reads: "PUBLIE PAR PURRAT FRERES A PARIS" The translation would read in English as: "HIST. REVOLUTION.BE L' WORSEN OF THE RESTORATION AND MY. FROM 1830" "PUBLISH BY PURRAT BROTHERS HAS PARIS" So i decided to try to search for anything to do with the PURRAT brothers and still come back to square one? Im still looking though thanks anyway
  7. Red Riley & Scott Thank you both very much for your help cheers

  21. Thank you Josie, for your input unfortunately i do not think the coins that i have been given are "valuable" and therefor will probably not warrant the investment of such a good product? At the moment im just going through them with a magnifying glass, then trying to look up on the inetrnet / on here asking questions of what i should be looking for , as im not a collector i dont know anything about the grading / coins / or how valuable each coin would be worth? Many thanks though
  22. Hello all, its that pest again I am going to ask some questions, some or all may seem stupid to others on this forum, from looking through the site i have only now found out the amount of work that all the "collectors" put into this subject. Please understand that these question are GEUINE, they are coming from someone who is not a collector. I was given the coins by my father and he said "have a look there maybe something in there , they may just be rubbish". All the coins were not sorted out, there are probably around a few hundered in all. Here go's: 1) Do i leave the coins as they are or do i try an attempt to clean them? 2) Do members of this forum have knoweldge of Commonwealth coins? 3) I have got a lot of coins (mainly pennies or half pennies0 that are for want of a better word "flat". Is there any point in trying to do anything with these or should just put them in a "copper pile". 4) Am i right in thinking these were made from copper? 5) After seeing some of the points that collectors pick up on with coins, for me (not a collector) what would be the best way & cheapest to veiw the coins i have been given, good magnifying glass or microscope? Many thanks in advance cheers

  24. I wonder if someone here can help me with this one please? I can see that the coin is a One Penny of The George era clearly dated as 1937. But thats it?? On the front the writing is clear enough but thats all that can be made out? On the rear, again writing clear (date & nomination of coin) also the lighthouse (if thats what it is) underneath the "O" in ONE can be clearly seen and the staff / trident just the 3 arrows are clear. Anymore information would be very helpfull, or is this simply another coin thats has been well & truly battered about? cheers
