  1. Peckris Thank you for you time, effort and knowledge you have put into your reply its very much appreciated. It will now save me going literally from coin to coin to try to study something that in all honesty i dont know what im looking for, if that makes sense? As for the Microscope, your information in itself saved me a lot of money, i will go for a reasonably decent glass and take things from there. I will NOT attempt to clean them at all. I will now look for the dates you gave and take things from there. I will do some research on the Commonwealth coins before i ask really stupid questions on this forum and hopefully a member will be able to answere any questions i have. Re: The scrap...i can see me having to call in the skip lorry  Cheers again mate very valuable information
  2. Oi...im sure that i see a slight wave in there somewhere cheers peckris that made me laugh
  3. I have a George 1937 half penny error coin. Whilst seraching the internet today without any luck of trying to find names of coins, metals etc, i came across a site that listed error coins and all the different type of errors that could be found on coins. Could someone please try to explain a bit more about this coin (other than the poor condition) cheers all
  4. Hello Red Riley, Thank you very much for your reply, very helpfull to me. Fortunately this one shown, is the only one that has been given to me (by my Dad) and i can now stop the mind boggling internet searches that ive been doing to try to establish what coin it is. Thanks again Red, cheers mate
  5. I am really at a loss here with this one! There are no I.D. marks that i can see other than the date @ 1806. On the back you have what looks like Britania seated BUT facing the other way holding the staff at her side? Its size is slightly bigger in dimmension than a penny but twice a penny's thickness. Other than that i dont know what to say as i dont know what to look for? The pictures are not great but in all honesty what you can see in the photos are about what i can see looking at it in my hand. any ideas anyone..?
  6. Hello all, New to the forum and my first post. I am not a collector (as yet) but.... I have been given a large bag of "old" coins, mainly British coins but also some from worldwide. There are a lot of the normal "run of the mill" half penny / one penny including an error half penny. That error information was only brought to my attantion when on another internet site. Anyway back to the point of my post. Can someone please identify the coin pictured, and if known what type of metal would this be? Many thanks in advance cheers
  7. oh well So this is NOT an error coin but asyou have all described one thats probably been run over either by a steam train or the 9.15 out of Euston Thanks for your input time and expertise on clearing this up for me.....Thought i had something of value there and i had only gone through 3 bags. cheers
  8. Many thanks to you both for your time and expertise:D cheers
  9. Chris, sorry i forgot to ask, i know that the picture quality isnt really a lot to go on, but with your experience how would you grade this coin, im not looking for an exact grading as i would assume that its impossible to do so from a photo but just a guide? thank you
  10. Thanks for the quick reply Chris, really appreciate it cheers
