  1. Who is buying them, my guess is Japanese collectors who seem to have an abudance of Yen
  2. Oh well, just need to keep your eyes open for something else. I wouöd have bidded but he was'nt going to Shop to me
  3. Top spot, Dave...man, you're good! I've been watching it from day one! I'd be happy to buy it back! Typical irregular flan of this date, though! Edit: by irregular I mean slightly ovoid! Did you take a stab Stewie? Sold for £90.01 just goes to show that ebay has really gone downhill for selling a half decent coin
  4. You need to have the economy if a small country such as England just too purchase something
  5. Funny hpw its different on the ipad. I can read the whole article without the Register pop up
  6. Sounds like a collector who's upgraded then
  7. Was this a recent purchase from you Stuart? I actually asked about it because he states he only ships within the UK which he's not moving on. If i were you Stewie i'd also try and buy it back if it stays under £100, its ebay after all, so it probably will unless he's going to up it himself. I did mention to him though where it came from and the price paid, so he'll now know i'm only interested in the final price
  8. This is one of Stewies (coinery) coins. Dunno when he sold it to the ebay seller but lets see if the seller recoups the £150, he's halfway there 231275904316. i'm highlighting it to see if the seller has basically bought it too sell on or try too sell on for profit. If its not to expensive maybe Stuart can take a pint and buy it back for less than he sold it for good economics
  9. The problem being with fakes being known and in the public Domain is that it will also help the forgers. I can understand on the one hand why they'd like it to be a rather select group who can access the database but on the other it does'nt really help the collector. I for one am all for something to be Put in place here to help us, maybe something secure (more than the members section) as a few of us has helped collected and find fakes. The other scenario is for Chris to perhaps get a book out on the subject., i think it would be a best seller amoungst the serious hobbyist. Sorry if my Sentiment sounds elitest, but i not wanting to arm the forgers with more ammo so they can better their fakes.
  10. No, never registered on there Rob. Going to email you an Image, the attribution is'nt correct, want to see if you can id the coin.
  11. Hmmmm strange that, i was able to read it all on my ipad without that hassle
  12. http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2014/07/140707-mars-shipwreck-warship-baltic-sea-archaeology-science/ (null)
  13. Lurpak? I thought it was Castrol GTX night tonight? Castrol is too expensive now, besides, thats on Thursdays
  14. Its seems to be back up again as the same attribution. Funnily enough he's selling one of my coins he bought earlier this year for around £230 291064167512 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235-238-AD-Maximinus-I-Silver-Denarius-CGS-55/291183926314?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D23775%26meid%3D8101020877290191732%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D10165%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D331211751705
  15. I would'nt say 1841 was modern Paul but these love tokens are on the up, especially those with a story and researched. I think either the last DNW or Lockdales auction had several in, all sold for decent prices. There is collectors for these, just ask Debbie how much they've increased since she started collecting these.
  16. I'd also stick with Charles I (George III) does nothing for me. I'd be saving that money you're spending for the more expensive Charles coinage, its hard when you see nothing and feel the need too spend, Patience is a virtue Richard. It's all a matter of subjective taste. I love the coins of George III - probably my second favourite reign numismatically speaking. I think the cartwheels are the best design of the modern era, and if I could afford them, I'd have every pattern copper there is. You are correct Peck, but was more or less referring to the recoinage coinage, so what i did was i saved a few beans and Upped the ante a little and have Proxy bidded on this one. I feel safe too say that now as it will have been through the auction already. Whether i've won it or not remains to be seen Well my bid was €2050 its estimate was €1000 and it sold for €3000 plus 20% on a downer now

  19. Lol, ok Clive. this seller has a few british fakes http://www.ebay.de/itm/231266236332?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.de%2Fsch%2Fi.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_from%3DR40%26_nkw%3D231266236332%26_rdc%3D1
  20. Looks like one of Dave's. ?
  21. Love Kenmore Peter, hoping to have 10 days there next year as they now have some lodges on the grounds of Taymouth Castle.
  22. He's definately a happy boy even though he has a Crazy Scottish father and a Crazy Turkish mother lol
  23. Neil must have a new Porsche by now. I don't think it matters how much you spend on your hobby, you buy what you can afford. My kids and brother all mock me saying i'm a geek but i'm the one smiling inside. I try and also keep the boss informed of what i've bought even though it bring's a tear to her eyes. I keep saying its for the future and the amount i've spent this year would probably be equal to or, more than likely more than i'd put into a pension fund, my son is also disabled so i'm seeing myself spending more on coins than i'm saving in the Bank. As Long as we're still eating and the Bills are paid then whats left over will be put to good use, hence the reason i STILL ask certain peoples opinion on specific coins that interest me. My records now consist of my scribblings on the Bill that comes with each coin purchase, maybe not the way to go but i find endless columns of book numbers etc pretty tedious right now.
  24. The estimate was very close though. Making £7,000. In a few of the national papers as well....well done by the way.It did'nt sell due to the estimate being too high
  25. I always wonder where it comes from Rob. I've heard of many variations of what chicken actually was in some Curry houses. Gary, i've never heard of Masala being invented in Glasgow, deep Fried Mars Bar maybe. Perhaps You're thinking bradford or Manchester in the early 70s
