The problem being with fakes being known and in the public Domain is that it will also help the forgers. I can understand on the one hand why they'd like it to be a rather select group who can access the database but on the other it does'nt really help the collector. I for one am all for something to be Put in place here to help us, maybe something secure (more than the members section) as a few of us has helped collected and find fakes. The other scenario is for Chris to perhaps get a book out on the subject., i think it would be a best seller amoungst the serious hobbyist. Sorry if my Sentiment sounds elitest, but i not wanting to arm the forgers with more ammo so they can better their fakes.

Its seems to be back up again as the same attribution. Funnily enough he's selling one of my coins he bought earlier this year for around £230 291064167512 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235-238-AD-Maximinus-I-Silver-Denarius-CGS-55/291183926314?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D23775%26meid%3D8101020877290191732%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D10165%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D331211751705

I would'nt say 1841 was modern Paul but these love tokens are on the up, especially those with a story and researched. I think either the last DNW or Lockdales auction had several in, all sold for decent prices. There is collectors for these, just ask Debbie how much they've increased since she started collecting these.

Anyone watching/biding today? What caught my eye was the amount of hammered Gold that was passed. Estimates too high or grade?

George III Half Crown - Chinese Fakes
azda replied to seuk's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I'd also stick with Charles I (George III) does nothing for me. I'd be saving that money you're spending for the more expensive Charles coinage, its hard when you see nothing and feel the need too spend, Patience is a virtue Richard. It's all a matter of subjective taste. I love the coins of George III - probably my second favourite reign numismatically speaking. I think the cartwheels are the best design of the modern era, and if I could afford them, I'd have every pattern copper there is. You are correct Peck, but was more or less referring to the recoinage coinage, so what i did was i saved a few beans and Upped the ante a little and have Proxy bidded on this one. I feel safe too say that now as it will have been through the auction already. Whether i've won it or not remains to be seen Well my bid was €2050 its estimate was €1000 and it sold for €3000 plus 20% on a downer now -

Neil must have a new Porsche by now. I don't think it matters how much you spend on your hobby, you buy what you can afford. My kids and brother all mock me saying i'm a geek but i'm the one smiling inside. I try and also keep the boss informed of what i've bought even though it bring's a tear to her eyes. I keep saying its for the future and the amount i've spent this year would probably be equal to or, more than likely more than i'd put into a pension fund, my son is also disabled so i'm seeing myself spending more on coins than i'm saving in the Bank. As Long as we're still eating and the Bills are paid then whats left over will be put to good use, hence the reason i STILL ask certain peoples opinion on specific coins that interest me. My records now consist of my scribblings on the Bill that comes with each coin purchase, maybe not the way to go but i find endless columns of book numbers etc pretty tedious right now.

The estimate was very close though. Making £7,000. In a few of the national papers as well....well done by the way.It did'nt sell due to the estimate being too high

Rotographic Website Relaunch
azda replied to Chris Perkins's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I always wonder where it comes from Rob. I've heard of many variations of what chicken actually was in some Curry houses. Gary, i've never heard of Masala being invented in Glasgow, deep Fried Mars Bar maybe. Perhaps You're thinking bradford or Manchester in the early 70s -

This is up for sale in the next DNW sale, would it worry anyone that the tops are missing on the OBV legend and there's a scratch coming from the kings mouth?
-
Ebay are a waste of your time and effort Clive, theyonly want the money, its more than evident with the amount of things that go by after being reported
