England Frightened Of Scottish Indepemdence
azda replied to azda's topic in Nothing whatsoever to do with coins area!
I'm with you there Dave, but for me it's the Tory b******s in the Home Counties who should declare independence and leave the rest of the UK to everyone else including the Scots. Your part of the UK would be a bit short of income if they did. Elmbridge in Surrey (£1.18bn) alone pays more income tax than Glasgow (£898m), Sheffield (£812m), Aberdeen (£728m), Cardiff (£589m) and Newcastle (£443m). Elmbridge in Surrey may have more population, Scotland has a mere 5 million population. The same said elmbridge may have many rich residents compared to the millionaires that reside in Scotland. Bear in mind how much Scotland pays in oil tax. If this was taken into account and it did'nt head into the Westminster coffers then we'd probably be paying more than the UK put together.AC, i mean we as i'm Scottish, whether i can or cannot vote. Being able to vote or not does not determine who i am. oOh and if we combined Aberdeen and Glasgow the combined tax would be more than Elmbridge. 1.6 Billion or so. Wonder how mamy people live in Elmbridge Surrey who work as Stockbrokers or Play Professional Football or who own 1 million pound plus houses. Lets keep it into perspective -
A coin with that amount of wear will obviously already weigh less, but there certainly looks to be something under there. Curious question, but why straight away say it must be counterfeit? Is'nt it possible for a currency coin to be overstruck?

You can't pay a national debt when you don't use the currency. As for Salmond, he's just a staunch Nationalist and i think he's getting pretty pissed off with all the scaremongering by Westminster. I shall be gutted if we lose, having to go cap in Hand to those Tory *******s who are already licking the cream from the bowl and greasing their friends Palms makes me sick to the stomach -
4 Points Difference Is Valued At £350
azda posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Browsing through the forthcoming Londons catalogue i came across 2 lots. Lots 1386 a 1902 crown graded as CGS 82 and the finest they have graded apparently from 26 coins thus far and top estimate is £600 Lot 1389, same coin with just 4 points difference at CGS 78 with a top estimate of £250. My question is, do we think a 4 point difference is worth £350? (null) -

Never saw the hIrline or the ding, even so, i'd still be happy with it as i'm not a perfectionist and we could all critisise each others coins somewhere along the line, if i like it i buy it, i don't buy to please others at the end oft he day -

I do actually like the 1902 Crown when its UNC and that matte proof is also very nice, unfortunately those two from this Topic are far too toned for me. Now if it was that matte proof up for sale, i'd have a Pop at it. I'm actually surprised that the matte proof only got a 92, i can't see anything wrong with it, CGS fussy as usual -
Watching this and a 1695 Crown quadrupled estimate and sold for 1200 GBP, looked cleaned lot 883 Lot 884 a 1700 Crown, estimate 200-300 sold for 1400 GBP GVF, but again looked cleaned to me. Lot 887 1935 Raised edge proof, 480 hammer, looked to be quite a few hairlines on this lot 872 1927 Proof set 520 hanmer and 871 1911 proof set 640 hammer The first 2 my jaw dropped watching them

Lets also bear in mind that of the CGS 82 one sells at top estimate it will cost the buyer £900, somehow i cannot see that Happening. Coppers, interesting theory you mentioned About CGS trying to dictate pricing, however i cannot see this happening, 2 reasons for this, 1 they are'nt big enough to dictate and 2 British buyers are'nt fallimg over themselves to buy the same grade slabned coin for a 1 point adjustment. Just my opinion -

I think the BUZZ Word on that crown may not apply, but your reply Hit a note with me Mike. You're obviously a CGS slab buyer, perhaps of crowns even, its interesting to Note that this FINEST GRADED CGS coin does not interest you. It can't be possible that you have better because CGS tells us that its the best, so why does'nt it interest you? -

It will be interesting too see if the higher grade one actually sells consodering the other is only 3 lots further on at a consoderably lesser estimate. -
Clearly someone does'nt know a thing about coins. Thats 4000 quid with commission. They'd have to sell each one at 32 pounds clear to just break even Or there was something tasty in there Was there? I did'nt see the lot in question

and the 1700 Crown. Both were graded as GVF

The 1695 Crown OBV

I wonder if it a sign of things to come. Those 2 Crowns were'nt worth that much and certainly looked dipped as they had the Stone like appearance from sitting in silver dip for too long.

Dave,I agree that England doesn't want to Scotland to go, but I'm not at all sure that view is based on economics, more a genuine affection for Scotland. You say that you pay more taxes but that isn't accepted by the IFS which in 2012 concluded that Scotland receives about £200 more per head of population than the people in England do. To quote from their report, which I would trust far more than anything a politician says: 'Whilst uncertainty over how to allocate spending in some areas like defence might change the magnitude of the difference, it is not big enough to affect the broad conclusion that spending per head is substantially higher in Scotland.' If you then add in the SNPs uncosted social spending promises, plus the costs of achieving independence and I'm not convinced of the financial argument. I think you're listening to Tory Waffle Dave. I believe the whole bailout started at Northern Rock (an English Bank who incurred Bad debts from the USA i believe, oh those colonies) Of course RBS were in the firing line. But it was far from THE only bank to be bailed out -

Dave, i have to say, its England who don't want Scotland to leave, not the other way around and there is obvious reasons to that. We pay more in tax to Westminster than we receive back pro head of population yet we can afford to have free Health prescriptions and University fees (for those living and being Scottish) Weatminster and all those who reside there are just a bunch of leeches and parasites sucking the life out of the people they Govern dipping their hands in the sweetie jar. Just a few days back i was reading that a Tory Party donor received a Billion pound NHS contract, strange that eh. As i said, just a load of parasites who are in it to make themselves richer and the poorer even moreso
