Possibly Stuart, contemplating at the moment as i'm not a fan of Gold or Gold prices but would make an interesting purchase for the bay if it were a Roman digit, it certainly does'nt appear to be an Arabic 1, the bottom serif certainly looks longer than the top serif and as Peck says almost looks like an L, but the top serif is definately elongated to the right making it look like a Roman I -
1825 3rd Rev Shilling Variety?
azda replied to Paulus's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Not at all, I have little idea about such things! I have bought it as a nice grade 1825, the wonky 5 is just added interest ... Michael says on his web site that others have suggested it may be 5/3 but that seems unlikely/impossible! So I thought I would throw it open for debate Nothing is likely or impossible in coin collecting -

Its a nice coin, one that will probably sit in your collection and nag you to death for the life of it in your collection. I'd be content that it's a good example and it will piss you off for a while wondering what's under the 5 -

If Michael has had it a while and the last digit has been debated elsewhere and with Michaels authority on Micro varities, he states its 5/5, why would you then believe it to be 5/3? Are you trying to convince yourself its 5/3? -
Divemaster you should Check the thread where a fake coin was actually slabbed by NGC, so makes slabbing look a little dubious personally

As an engraver of the time Peck, would you want your head cut off or hung for portraying the King in an unflattering light?

Sooooooooooooo, lot 517, i paid (this year) roughly about 157GBP for mine.........Pix added to compare between mine and Londons 300-400GBP estimated Halfcrown. There's is the joint finest apparently in a population of 30......A little concerned that London and CGS are getting a little to neighbourly........Anyway, Thoughts on mine over theirs, good or bad.......
-
I like their spiel on lot 502, quote (Florin 1905 ESC 923 AU and graded AU75 by CGS 2nd finest from 14, we understand that the finest known graded AU78 is in a long term collection and unlikely to be offered for sale, so this piece is currently the finest available to commerce) So what they're really saying is, you gotta bid big cos we've said the finest is away for a while.......... CGS and Londoncoins really should not reside together.......... Graded as AU75, so where's the holder if it's graded so? Or is this been graded by CGS for London in order to achieve a better price, then when the buyer comes to get it graded by CGS it's downgraded a few points...............
-
Would be good if you posted something other than what you're touting, and when someone comes up with a cheaper price not have a sour taste. Perhaps because all you do here is tout your wares, you might first want to ask the owner of the site to do so, and then secondly offer members a rebate since you've done nothing BUT tout your wares. Regards....... Moi
