Letters and symbols on early milled silver
azda replied to Paulus's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I have both Shilling and Sixpence with E* Shilling being in Poor grade, but the * being quite visible, the Sixpence being in better grade. I think John Stephenson also has a Shilling with E*. I'm sure he told me that it was to do with the engraver, but i've never seen anything written about why the * is on the coins either. -
I agree with what you're saying Nick, 1 problem with that is that everyones opinion differs when coming to grading, although it's very apparent in this case that the coin would'nt be graded as EF. Some people will most likely be crying in a few years if they decide to sell what they've bought from him. If you tell people that the coin isn't as graded then you just create huge problems for yourself, especially if you tell a buyer it's not the specific grade or it was bought under another ebay ID, cleaned and upped 1 grade. This is what happened to me and i got booted for my troubles by ebay, but as they say, every dog has it's day, i now have a new ID which Mr X does'nt know about and i will be buying some form of shite from him and i will leave my NEG

Well, if you can pick it up for 99p then it might yield a bit of a return when you sell it! His usual Crew are bidding it up 460 quid it ended at, not surprisingly, over double its value. I hope the buyer throws it right back at him, although i doubt it. Maybe in 15 years it'll be worth what he paid. There certainly is one born every minute. MP must be laughing his socks off. Well its certainly not EF, remember he usually ups ALL his coins 1 grade, and then possibly dipping, then his crew get involved, so i'd agree at the VF mark. I'm certainly not feeling sorry for these people who are bidding on his crap, i mean coins. They should look at his photos and check against any previous sales. What i don't get is why no one has ever gave him a NEG or NEUTRAL after getting something from him, especially when they've clearly been dipped etc, well actually i do know why (refunds with a bit on top to not leave the NEG) There's one born every minute i suppose....

Text books for Jubilee crown die pairings?
azda replied to AJWcoins's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Sorry to be so long replying. I just collect 1887 at the moment as there are about 300! If there is anything I can help with please call. Can you confirm your measurements range from 33.59-34.65. Have you found the ones with the broken serifs yet? Have you included the Spink & Son patterns? Give me a ring. Loving the REV of this coin -
I'll think you'll find that the "no returns" policy on eBay is not worth shit. If you Open a dispute through PP you'll find you'll get your money back

Golden Coin of George III
azda replied to HAXall's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Its an underweight shilling. Its worn and drilled so the weight loss might be due to this. It should weigh 5.65g P.s, it's also silver, GOLDEN is probably the toning -
1905 Florin - advice please!

She has'nt seen my Trident yet -
So, an ebay seller took an interest in the 1850 Shilling i had listed, sent obligatory offer, which i countered. He then also during our email discussions took an interest in the 1707 Halfcrown i had. Eventually we agreed a price and sent him it off. In the main, we were at a point that we had got to a roundabout figure for the shilling. Yeterday i got an offer on the Shilling from elsewhere which i countered, so i thought i'd be a good seller and inform the buyer of the 1707 Halfcrown that there was some else also interested in the Shilling. I started my email by saying that i noticed he'd got the Halfcrown and i hoped he was happy with it. To my surprise he wrote this back (this is his exact email) Hi, I am not exactly thrilled with coin, you have sent it in a card envelope quite loose, and it has bad cabinet friction on the obverse more so that the pictures you posted on eBay, it a crying shame as this was once a cracking coin! I just don't no what to say! I was a bit perplexed to say the least, and was wondering what he was talking about, so my next email asked if he could send a picture of the OBV to me to let me have a look, shortly after sending it off a quick reply came (again his exact email) Hi, The coin has cabinet friction due to transportation, it is really shiny on the high spots, I am annoyed also that you sent it loose in a packet so this could happen! So i basically wrote back with this Ok, i'm going to reply to this specific email. You've stated that the coin was sent in a card envelope, which is untrue. This coin was sent in an acid free small coin envelope, then was placed in a white jiffy bag which was then placed inside another white jiffy bag. So tell me, what's your game plan Martyn? You think you're going to get something else off an 1850 shilling? You are seriously mistaken. I dislike people who try and bullshit others for their own little gameplan. Now i'll expect an apology from you. So basically the arsehole was trying to pull a quick one and thought he was going to get a huge price reduction on the 1850. I seriously dislike arseholes like this..........mdagcoins you have been named and shamed....TOSSER!!!!
-
Peter, it was impossible for the coin to move anywhere. What he's trying to do is say that its got huge cabinet friction and then tell me he wants a price reduction, but then tell me we can take it off the Shilling. When i replied to him telling him he was bullshitting because of the way it was packed (no cardboard was involved in the making of that parcel) and would have been an improbability for it to have anymore wear than it showed in the pictures he then suddenly became very very quiet, especially when i told him what he was obviously trying to achieve by bullshiting. He was immidiately blocked.

Text books for Jubilee crown die pairings?
azda replied to AJWcoins's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
AJ, my apologies, i misread and thought it was you who forgot and not your friend. Iphone text is sometimes a pain in the arse. -
A lot of people who join are only here for a 1 coin related question and when they have their answer you never see them again. As Rob says, there is about 40-50 people who do regularly post, my guess would be there's maybe 100 perhaps more who contribute, albeit intermitently.

I personally don't know, why don't you ask your friend again and then let us know? Sounds the more logical route
