    Spink 2012

It's available from today. Allegedly Well that's what the email circulated last Friday by Spink said. I've ordered my 2012 book, delivery date 15-12-11 lets see if that actually happens, last year i got it in January despite them saying it was avaliable in November when i actually ordered it

    How could this happen?

Our forum member red riley has wrote the book on grading, if you look at the book banner at the top of the site, you see "grading British Coins" printed by rotographic, which will help. Of the second coin, perhaps you didn't see the BM due to the lighting of the coin, that one to me is a well struck coin, only my opinion though If you look here Debbie http://www.predecima...ic=3664&st=3720 post number 3740 a recent coin i bought, the B of BM is not distinct, then if you go to the next page at post 3761 you'll see my in hand picture where the BM is slapping your face, just because you can't see something does'nt mean its not there, it could be a culmination of lighting or a poor picture or both.

    How could this happen?

Here's an ebay item number for a dipped/overgraded coin Debbie 230700005314 and here's another for a shilling that might interest you 140656452759 (if you have'nt got one already that is) Rob, i did notice the spots, but not the bag mark

    How could this happen?

Strangely enough i'd say they were a little light with the grade on that, but it was'nt in my hand when it was graded, but it does look good

    How could this happen?

I was under the impression that a US graded 63 was our AUNC or there abouts and 65 was UNC

Here's a good thread for you to read on Shillings Debbie http://www.predecimal.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=4784&pid=55096&st=0entry55096

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

High grade to apparently but it does seem to have the dot between ONE but a little to much moolah for me. I'm still a poor engineer unlike you ebay boys with wedges of cash in Paypal

    How could this happen?

Well 1st of all, it's certainly no BU as described by the seller, MS63 is GEF/AUNC, the REV i've no idea why its so bad, but i'd not spend my money on the coin anyway, both sides would have to look as decent as the OBV for me to part with cas. P.s MS65 upwards is regarded as UNC MS70 being mint state
  12. You should be able plug in the USB, refuse the format, but be able to list the drive, open it and view its content, copy/cut the files to a new folder, format your USB then copy back the info you have sorted Nope, won't let me do anything until its formatted unfortunately

    what about this?

Debbie, a poorly dipped coin can look like a brick, its very flat, no lustre, a cleaned coin can look "too clean" in other words, the same coin can look like both ends of the spectrum in different hands. If a dipped coin is left to long in its little bath, then it will come out a very dull grey and really lacks anything to it. If anyone finds something to show you the 2 differences then am sure pictures will be applied or links posted so you can see the 2 differences for yourself. There is a very prominent ebayer who regularly uses this practise to enhance (or at least tries to) his coins, which in turn leads him to enhance his grade, which in turn enhances his selling price Oh and if harshly cleaned, you see a lot of hairline scratches on the surface of the coin.

    Ebay / Paypal

Hmmm that is a strange one, as Paypal don't normally keep the fees when refunding someone, although they may have changed something somewhere in their minute print
  15. You're obviously hawking your own wares, why the need to put it here and probably every other coin forum around the globe i've no idea. Ahhhh haaaa, now i see why, 2 watchers, with a bid count of 12, my my those two have been busy eh!!!

    Ebay / Paypal

I thought they stopped flogging in the 1800s NOTHING is bomb proof with EBAY or PAYPAL, remember ebay own PAYPAL, hence the reason you cannnot list ANYTHING without accepting paypal, personally i think thats an unfair monopoly and it should be seriously looked into by the Monopolys Commission, they did with Micrsosoft, why not Ebay?
  17. Its not mine to sell Bob, but if you want the link then i'll send you it along via PM, just let me know.
  18. Also just noticed something poking out the bottom of the 1 in the date, looks like 1/1?

    1897 O'NE Penny

The one in the Bernie Workman sale did'nt sell, estimate at 1500-2000, maybe Bernie is willing to sell it? Maybe drop him a PM from here. Part one on the Colin Cooke website, lot 74and a helluva lot more lustre than the one from ebay.
  20. Generic Lad, there is already a "useful links" thread in the "free for all" thread where members post their useful links all in the one place

    Hello

Debbie welcome to the forum, i hope your stay here will be long and enjoyable. Being mainly male dominant, we shall take it easy with you, to hopefully encourage you to continue to collect and possibly (eventually) your son also. I also collect for my son (he's only 3) but i hope one day when he's old enough he'll see the value of what i'm doing for him. Maybe you should remortgage the house to buy the ultimate coin, then your son will understand what it means to collect coins lol (please don't remortgage the house, i was kidding). Kids want to be kids, a hobby to them is geeky in this day and age, maybe in time when you are amassing a nice collection he'll see your enjoyment and start toask questions, just do what you're doing and don't hesitate to ever ask a question, however silly you might think it be, everyone has to start somewhere, and with this hobby, you'll never stop learning. P.s Debbie, there are a few dealers on this website, including the owner of the site, all are very knowledgeable and their grading is also spot on, so don't be scared to looked through what they also have to offer. And welcome back to PECKRIS.............

    Would you be tempted?

Would i be tempted? I think it would depend, if you were alone, and dug up 200 Sovs i think the answer would be yes, with 30 others hanging around, the answer would be no. Reason i would, Sovs are in ample abundance, if we were talking Anglo Saxon or thereabouts then even if i were alone then i'd give it up.
  24. Trawling through a Spink (Price Guide) last night at work (2010 edition) and was looking at the Maundy sets from Queen Anne. I'm not sure if its an error on Spinks behalf but a 1713 Maundy set in the 2009 edition in EF is 625 pounds, 2010 Edition is 650, yet in the 2011 Edition it's DOWN to 600, is this an error in Spinks rush to cram so much shite into the 2011 book or can the prices go down?
  25. Speaking of shite, i hear Sunderland are looking for a New manager
