A Little description of this website THE Newman Numismatic Portal (nnp.wustl.edu) is a new, powerful research tool for the numismatist. It is based at Washington University in St Louis, USA (WUSTL) and is funded by a 4-year, $US2M grant from the Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society (EPNNES). The all-seeing eye is emblematic of the Newman Numismatic Portal, the goal of which is to freely share a vast online store of both printed and virtual numismatic resources. Books, periodicals, ephemera, as well as online forums and auction offerings will be captured in one location, freely available, and searchable from anywhere in the world. With unprecedented knowledge at their disposal, collectors and researchers will gain greater appreciation for numismatic science and more clearly discern fact from fiction. https://nnp.wustl.edu

Today's Spink auction - some interesting observations
azda replied to 1949threepence's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Spink has always had problems with their internet bidding, i think 2 years ago the whole thing came crashing around their ears and they lost the internet bidding completely on the day, i think Rob was sitting online at the same time i was when it went tits up. They really need to get this sorted out once and for all.... -
Looking through realised prices i'm seeing 14,5g to 14.66g

1849 PENNY ON THE BAY
azda replied to ThePrepper's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
If you think it's a bargain then he's probably picked this up for more than he's sold it for, as we now know, he pays the same price as every other mortal and then overgrades and does the other usual practise in order to make a profit, so he's either bought it himself or made a loss -
I think it's maybe the first gold victorian sixpence i've seen. It has H35 and 500 scratched in the OBV just to the right of the last A in VICTORIA

George III dollar MC
azda replied to Blank Slate's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Its a part of the history of the coin, perhaps it's for a loved one, it's definately contemporary to the coin and worth holding onto just for the history and the feel of history -
1849 PENNY ON THE BAY
azda replied to ThePrepper's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Ha ha Boab, i bet he's fizzing because his eBay blurb states Coin Year Book suggests £2300 in EF so am guessing he was aiming/hoping for the upper end, obviously buyers are most aware of our man Flint these days, i'm very proud, i feel like a new father, well done eBay, although he could have bought it himself I hear he does the same shite on Facebook these days..........The book states millions in EF and the likes -
Need some help - overcharged by PCGS...absolute nightmare.
azda replied to evansuk2000's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
There is no London office, the London coin company are an agent who will accept submissions on your behalf, but i assume their prices would be higher, they actually do speak English in Paris, (not brilliantly) but i also spoke to their reps at the Munich coin fair in March without problem. I've called a few times and haven't had a problem getting things corrected such as the Label on the 1862 Die letter A halfpenny, they weren't going to change the label, just make sure the coin was what it was and alter the Pop report, i insisted they change the label to recognise the variety, which they did after my call -

The other problem i've been shouting about is the uploads, have to upload 500kb then leave the thread and rejoin in order to upload again is a pain in the ass, this has been an ongoing problem since the new site went live 2 years ago? and nothing has been done about it
-
The iPad is useless for sizing pictures, i have tried previously, i use my MacBook. Alternatively you can head along to photo bucket.com its an image hosting website, you can upload you picture in there and then copy the url link, not the one in the browser bar, but the one it provides when upload is finished. There is a 500kb limit to any one post with a picture, so if you want to upload say 2 pictures at similar sizes you'd then have to leave the thread after uploading the first, then re-enter and then upload the 2nd.......
