Possibly cleaned? The OBV/REV pics, especially the OBV looks like its been polished?
  2. Be even better if the Toon manage to sneak a point or 3 off them on Tuesday night! Keep dreaming John, lol, still remember Cantonas little chip at St James' and Keegans meltdown on Sky, great TV
  3. Which i already have had on ebay, hence the fact i'm pissed at RM and the reason i know this is that i started an invistigation that one of my sold coins went AWOL, anyway the German PO said it was'nt received, but thankfully the guy who i sent it to left me a FB for the item, or else i would have been liable. The PO is up the shitter without a paddle right now, i pay extra for signed for and they are'nt doing their freaking job!!!! Rant over

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Not sure whats happening here, a scam perhaps, who knows. 2 different sellers selling the same coin, or at least the pictures seem the same, also their ebay texts are identical http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160566345231&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.co.uk%3A80%2F%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp4712.m570.l1313%26_nkw%3D160566345231%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180652284731&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.co.uk%3A80%2F%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm570%26_nkw%3D180652284731%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1
  8. I do that, Colin, and not just for farthings. Definitely towards the autistic end of the spectrum, like most of us, I suspect. handy when you discover a variety though - just to make sure I didn't sell a Gouby X for 99p before I knew about them... But that is the mad part, it would drive me nuts!! It is the only way i can start to get an idea of scarcities on varieties, which although not entirely accurate (because I may distort the figures by focusing on a type) does give a good indication. I thought I was crazy doing it for farthings, you must be really crazy doing it for all denominations When you've clamed yourself, maybe you could do an OBV/REV of the actual coin pweeeeeeeeeeeees
  9. He said YOUNG blood Derek, not new lol
  10. If i had 10k i think i'd know exactly. A nice sum though, but probably still better to buya few books 1st, have a good read, check out whats selling on fleabay and other coin auctions, familiarise yourself on grades as this is quite important, it could mean the differencr between 20 quid Loss and 100 or more profit
  11. I'm really curious what price they're asking for it, any guesses people before he tells us? I'll go for 350 quid
  12. Well i've basically emailed the seller telling him about it and asked that if it is an overstamp could he send me a picture and what his thoughts are on it, so will be interested to hear what he comes back with.
  13. Sent this to Rob earlier yesterday for his opinion, but thought i'd post here also. Whilst strolling through the t'internet as you do of an evening looking for bargains and oddities i came accross this. Its a 1739 Crown, it is of high grade but not that i'm shelling out the sort of cash the dealer wants for it, the 3 in the date caught my eye though, so thought i'd pop it on here for you ladies to have a gaze and your opinions on what MIGHT be under the 3. Sorry the picture isn't spectacular, it was the sealers gallery piccy and i've cut/chopped and enlarged just enough or else i'd lose the focus on it

    *FOR SALE*

Wonders what else grandma has left you, but as has been said, pictures can sell a coin, when you've got some decent piccies then come back and lets have a look. The 1869 has a nice clear date, but can be still a poor grade, and grading is everything with coins. Good luck and hope to see you return with some nice pix. P.s max 150kb per post or host it on photobucket and copy and paste the url in your post.
  15. From what i'm reading, layered is only gold leaf and not 5 troy ounce of gold, basically what you'd be buying is bullion value of silver at probably an over inflated price if its coming from the mint or westminster coins.
  16. Danny I do this for a living and the best advice I can give you is try buying and selling something that you know about. Most dealers (the good ones at least) started off as collectors. You need the knowledge you gain as a collector to become a half decent dealer. As a novice you will not have the first idea about grades, rarity, state of preservation (cleaned, whizzed, tooled etc), value, desirability or authenticity. You need to know all of those to stand any chance at all of even breaking even. Ebay is already cluttered with people selling coins that they know nothing about and the auction rooms already have far too many novices paying silly money for boxes full of unsaleable crap. Sorry to put a dampener on your plans but if you are serious you need to start a collection first. Okay Thanks, Argentumandcoins Maybe Ill start collecting first I do have a whole bunch of worthless old english coins in the cuboard been told would only get scrap value for them though, sold all the pre 1937's Was thinking of bootsales but apparently you get nothing but junk there now everyones too wise. Thanks Anyway. Maybe you could also tell us what you have thats worthless junk, list a few coins, maybe the earliest dates you have first and lets see if they actually are worthless junk, also a picture of 1 or 2 of them for grading purposes. Next piece of advice is buy some books on the subject, always a good place to start
  17. And much quicker to, i'd obviously pick up a UNC open 3 along the way and anything else i could lay my hands on
  18. Can anyone give me a grade on this, not sure about hammered stuff. Thanks.
  19. Unfortunately Peter, he won't go much less than 300 euros which i think is still to much, plus i have 2 coins reserved that i have to pay for first. I'd Be happy to pay 200€ for it but i seriously doubt he'll drop that far
  20. I think you're right about it being 4/3 Rob, i've enlarged the pic with the iPhone and there is a curve of a 3 directly under the foot of the 4
  21. In short, yes and possibly, but without pictures, No, hope that makes sense
  22. Declan, In my experience, these dates and denominations are so common, that you are unlikely to see their varieties identified and advertised by the average dealer. The more knowledgeable may do so, but for most there is probably little incentive to go through their stocks to see if a rare variety is lurking. As far as eBay goes, again I doubt that many sellers are aware of the varieties, so there is always the possibility that one will pop up - having said this, it seems likely if they do that forum members will pick them up quickly. So from my point of view, the best options are either rooting about in boot/antique fair pots of run of the mill coins, or boxes of similar material in general auctions. If you are lucky this will reward you with specimens albeit probably not in top condition. My brain isn't as long as an elephants trunk, i find it impossible to remember every variety on earth, i would assume others are in the same boat and will always miss something, so unless it's brought to your attention in recent times and you remember it and it's for sale, chances are you will remember, but if it's not been around in say 5 years from now, or never mentioned again, chances are you'll pass right by it

    Unidentified coins

Pictures are a bit small, but the 2nd one is a gaming token, third might be a shilling, can you enlarge them to 150kb max and post again.
