1896 Old Head Penny

Well now thats strange, i just took a wee looksy at mine and it doesn't have any designer name there at all -
It was in their Site as the Single line and the BU grade, so maybe that was the case
-
I bougjt my 1940 BU Single exergue line late last Year Peck for 30 quid, so i feel like i finally got a bargain
-
Yes, but lets Be honest here Bob, its not worth an extra $574 for it, if it were i'd Be out buying petrol daily and selling My shite across the pond toned and making millions. Are people so stupid to actually buy a coin worth 1 pound for near 600 bucks just because some numpty pours a bit of petrol over it. Must have more money than sense over there, a fool and their money are soon parted
-
I think you'll find that its sovereigns from 1800 onwards, hence the reason that in the EU there is No tax payable on those coins from that year because they were used to buy and sell, so they are legal tender
-
You're Part Brit Bob, so you don't Count As a Yankee. What is it with this shite crazy toning craze they have in the US of A, No coin tones naturally like that in such a short space of time, No wonder Americas oil usage is so high
-
Petrol?................. Check Oily rag?............... Check Worthless coin?......... Check Just don't strike a match or smoke around your purchase, it may go up in flames
-
Why not try a George III Guinea to, i'll open a spar near you Sion
-
Shhhhhhhh Sion, i'll ofer $21 mate
-
No No 400, you go ahead and have a drink. I've emailed the seller asking if there was a mistake in the listing price, i think they probably meant $5,75 and not $575 for a coin thats been artificially toned, lets see what or IF they reply
-
The yanks Love that crap, but i have to say, the seller is fairly optimistic with the price lol, get a life people
-
Let's not get into the slab debate, 400 will be swinging from the attic rafters if we did lol
-
Yes, i saw the Price of the workman sale and thought, profeeeeeet already lol. Might get it slabbed, but with pcgs As CGS are Way to harsh in My opinion
-
With the Look of it ski i'd still have paid 30 quid, i'd pay it again for another of same quality, definately cheap even by last years standards. Should maybe get it slabbed and add 200 quid to its value Just thought i'd mention ski, bu and bunc are both the same grade
-
a prime example being the 1940 Single Exergue line penny... when was the last time I saw one of these sell for 'only' £40?! Last year, when i bought one from Colin Cookes for 30 quid in BU....oooh did i say BU, maybe its UNC, i don't know any more
-
If i could get a UNC for shite I'd Be eating allbran daily
-
It is a guide 400, but dealers and everyone Else is using That Guide and expecting the same cash As spink says its worth unfortunately
-
If anyone has 3 nails could they rush over to 400s House , in the cellar there's a box, Standing beside that box is a shady man, just push him into the box and knock those 3 nails in please
-
I think the frustration lies between the UNC price and BU price, if both coins were the same and 1 described UNC and the other BU then thats where you might See the difference, so iny opinion, clarification is needed
-
Well the won't acknowledge it if they've already Stated that UNC is with Full lustre. So who exactly started the BU grade?
-
Yes Derek, but surely everything UNC with Full lustre would surely Be BU then if it has FULL lustre? I Hope you understand what i mean.
-
I have also noticed this quote in Spink, but surely if a coin is UNC whether full lustre or not it merits UNC price. If a coin is toned, does that mean Spink says its EF? Not getting that part at all. Also how many bunheads have we seen in what spink would then regard as ture UNC which would mean with full lustre. Sorry but i must laugh at that quote Anyway back to the post, i believe that ms66 is 1 point short of perfect by USA grading standards, so hence the push in price me thinks. We all know that full lustre commands a higher price so I think a price for BU and a price for UNC as Chris does in his CCGB. I only have the 2009 edition which puts the 1931 penny at £25 in UNC and £35 in BU. Spink 2011 has 55 quid in UNC, the winning bidder has 118 Feedback score
