I have also noticed this quote in Spink, but surely if a coin is UNC whether full lustre or not it merits UNC price. If a coin is toned, does that mean Spink says its EF? Not getting that part at all. Also how many bunheads have we seen in what spink would then regard as ture UNC which would mean with full lustre. Sorry but i must laugh at that quote Anyway back to the post, i believe that ms66 is 1 point short of perfect by USA grading standards, so hence the push in price me thinks. I don't think that is the case though, Dave. As you say there are very few bunheads which would be in what we regard as a pure BU state, and those which are, command a hefty premium over their merely (technically) uncirculated cousins. Have a look at this as an example of as near to BU as you will get with a bunhead. Look at what he's asking for what is one of the more common dates ~ and he will probably get it, or as near as dammit. It's no doubt enjoyed an almost hermetically sealed existence since minting. I think there are UNC bunheads in which all the original underlying lustre is essentially still present, in that there has been no wear to the coin, and when it came out of circulation, probably still presented with pretty much 100% lustre. But time and the atmospheric exposure of well over a century, has removed the surface lustre such that the coin, whilst otherwise perfect, appears brown or black. I would call that BU Mike and not UNC, if we were to go by spink, where a coin with 100% lustre is only UNC, what is their definition of BU, what would they class that coin as.? I have also been watching that Jesus H, it finished at 180 quid

Actually it's really easy, just very well hidden for some reason. This is what you do: 1. Choose the cell that you want to activate the coin pic. when you mouse-over (if you want separate pics for OBV & REV just use two cells, one for each) 2. Right click on that cell then choose 'insert comment' from the drop down menu 3.The text box which pops up may contain some dummy text which you can just delete. 4. Place your mouse pointer over the BORDER of the box, right click and choose 'Format Comment' from the drop down menu. This is the important bit, because if you right click over the centre of the box you won't get the option to add a pic later! 5. In the Format Comment window that pops up, click on the 'Colours and Lines' tab then click on the down arrow next to Fill Colour to bring up the colours and fill effects. Click on the 'Fill Effects' button at the bottom. 6. In the fill effects window which pops up, you will have a 'Picture' tab which allows you to browse and select a picture from your computer. 7. Finally, you may need to close the Fill Effects window and go back to the Format Comment window to set the size and aspect ratio of the pop-up pic. You can also add some text if you like too. Once you have done the above, a small red triangle will appear in the corner of the cell to show that a pic is available. Very neat! And that's it. Sounds complicated but it's really not. I shall probe this over the weekend

I think most of the German stuff was the single headed eagle looking right, it's the Austrian Forint 10 and 20s in Gold that have the double headed Eagles such as this
-
I think its more of German origin due to the fact it was mainly Germany that made these model tokens and the close affinity that the Royal family had with Germany during that period. So for me (a guess so far) would be a gaming token or a model coin of some sorts, the Austrians also used the double eagle. If you look at the 20 Austrian Hungarian Forint around 1880s-1900s thee use the double headed eagle, those are also gold.

It looks like a clogged die to me -
The Shilling is actually a Halfcrown Sion and at a guess (pix are a bit distant) i'm going with VF which in Spink 2011 is 85 quid. If you crop around the pictures Richard you'll get a close up of the coin, and also if you take more pictures, try and get a little nearer so we can see more detail as that is important for grading
-
Just wonder what you all make of this stunning brockage. Never seen one in UNC before, and with a hint of lustre in the legend

About an hour from me the World cup of skiing is taking place. The local newspaper printed a map of the local area. Take a look under the letter A, not sure if its a town place name or the name of a mountain, but by eck they do like their place names here

Let me just say this about RM. They are as Safe as for sending packets These days As Afghanny airways. Everything i send is signed for, unfortunately that dora not gaurantee delivery as i'm still waiting on a German postal investigation into a missing coin that i sent in the 14th Dec, i tracked this from the German PO site and it got to the UK on the 16rh DEC only to Be Never heard if again. My daughter sent a few xmas gifts and cards in a Box, 20 quid postage and still had'nt arrived mid Jan, i told her to Claim it, she did. A claims form and last Week it turned up on HER doorstep, box opened, xmas card envelopes slit and things missing, now you tell Mr Who's to blame. I sent a coin to County Cork wednesday last week and ut was received today. RM are crap -
the 1889 shilling is the rare one with the Jubilee head on, at 23mm it would be a shilling Only if it's the small head. The larger JH is only worth what the other dates are. Like this one

I must admit, that thought passed through my mind as well. Overall, you're probably right, David. Best to play it safe. Although we have in the "free for all" ebay laughs slated a few ebay sellers, where's the difference? -
I went for aF (about fine) a lot of wear unfortunately

Perhaps the workman sale would help on the penny front regarding pricing? Just a thought...

Hi Colin I will take some nice pics in daylight and would be happy for you to use them, your site is excellent by the way.How and where would you like me to send them? Maybe you can post them here also, or at least the OBV picture in hi res, you have 150KB max, so use the limit, its an interesting find -

No problem, you can upload 150kb per post so maybe upload 2 seperate pictures and try and get the diameter size if you can, this is when digital verniers come in handy. Its also about a Fine grade, thats aF, a little less than Fine, just my opinion though. I might also be over for a wee visitation in April, just to breath some Scottish air and a swallie

Why does it take 6 weeks to Eire, thats unreal. Generally it takes 10 days before a dispute can start, from date of buying i think, so that seems a very short amount of time to me. Personally i'd block problematic countries, but i have a difficult buyer whom i'm still awaiting response to the 1919KN, still nothing from him and still an open case It shouldn't take more than a week Dave. If it goes to Northern Ireland it's there next day by first class standard, the South takes longer because it's in Europe!!!!!!! Some mainland letters have been delivered years after posting (found behind machines in sorting offices no doubt). The point is that my buyer had his lot posted on 08/02/11 by Signed For airmail and has already opened a dispute. I think it's called taking the p**s, especially as that's £65 of my money nicely locked by paypal in their high interset account where they keep the hundreds of thousands held from other sellers no doubt! Sounds to me like they're jumping in a little quick, and i have some cash i wanted to send you for that coin, i assume i can't send it now? -
its either a sixpence or a shilling, if its an 1889 shilling then its quite rare with the jubilee head on, but can't quite make the date out. I see the arabs lost the day
