He's actually a friend of Michael Goubys. So i would assume he knows exactly what he has, i spoke to him a few times about some of his coins, he's basically selling his doubles of what he has from upgrades. His name is Ian Fall

Help with Silver Groat identification

The spink book 2011 will give you all you require for those dates, cost 25 quid or go to your local library. Its also good that your kids have taken an interest, my advice would be to let them have a few of the coins so that they could hopefully take an interest in collecting -
A little help on an 1881 H Penny
azda posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Anyone help with the OBV and REV on the 1881 H Penny, unfortunately the gallery picture from the dealer isn't that great and i don't want to alert him to the fact of possible rarity so i'm wondering if any forum member can tell from the crappy pictures what we have here. So i'm hoping 9+M F103 Gouby BP 1881 G but to be honest i'm curious because i can't work it out. I thought viccies hooked nose would be enough to work it out -
If you check the front page of the website robj this is what it says: Welcome to an online demonstration of FishCart!. We've put together a FishCart with a few products from Middle Earth to show you how it works in practice. Of course, this is for demonstration only, so none of these will be showing up on your doorstep next week! This demonstration includes the v.U integrated UPS Online® Shipping Tools; these are running live to show you the speed and operation of the system. Each of the tools can be seen in real time operation, with actual results from real tracking numbers. It looks to be some sort of test for a website cart or something

Help with Silver Groat identification
azda replied to crashetta's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I have tried all ways to get a better shot, with and without flash etc but i am not brill with a camera. The ones i up-loaded onto photobucket look quite clear as they are larger. The links are on this post from 11-02 yesterday. If you dont mind having a look at these. They can be made bigger but sure you know this! How much more detail do they need to show? Thanks for your time. Tim. -
where does one host said images... ideally without relinquishing any pennies?! You could try omnicoin.com or photobucket.

A little help on an 1881 H Penny
azda replied to azda's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Hi Azda, What is the finer details on this coin to look out for? as i have one of these at home in slightly better condition than the one in the pictures you've posted here?? Victoria has a straighter back all the way down to the border teeth, the whole bust is larger, the legend is heavier Thanks for the replies people, always helpful when deciding if something is rare or not. As said, i really must get my nose into Michael Goubys book sometime, just need the time. Also thanks to Bernie for the sample picture, i've save it for future reference -
Can anyone help with this head type?
azda replied to azda's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Rob, thanks for your detailed reply and going to the trouble of showing me the differences in these head types. I've since emailed the seller to ask for a refund because he stated it was rare and had took this rarity from Krause. He replied and said normally he wouldn't, but becuase i've bought a few from him that he would do so. He then asked me to explain why it wasn't the rare type, so i copied and pasted most of your mails and scan to him and also suggested he buy a couple of English books on specifics as Krause is more of a general World coin book and doesn't really detail rarities as such. Waiting for a response from him, if any, i hope all that science didn't scare him lol Thanks again -
Can anyone help with this head type?

A few to choose from on these shillings. Its 1879 die number 22 above, Spink gives A5 A6 aand A7 for the same year, the differences are so subtle it peeeeeses me off anyone help? Ok i'm at A5 Or A6 because A7 was 1880 onwards, ok can't be A5 either as there's no die numbers for these, does that leave the A6? -
http://time-lines.co...02-13464-0.html This piece is a Spanish Pillar (possibly 8 Reales) as there's different denominations of these and were generally issued in South America Mexico, Peru, Gutaemala etc, hence the shipwrecked part that you found. A picture would be more helpful of the piece you have as there's specific mintmarks on these coins.

Hence the reason i said that your 1919KN COULD be worth a bit of cash, everything depends in the state of your coins, another reason why good pictures are a must, so grade can then Be assesed A unc graded KN is worth quite a Bit, whereas a worn example just a few quid., a Big difference

I got mine on ebay for 5 quid -
May i suggest that you either go to your local library or buy a copy of spink 2011, its the reference book for British coins and values. If you're not interested in coins or keeping what you have, then best to go to the library.

azda, I think it's wrong to ever mention 'quite a few pounds' in reply to a newbie, because it only gets them excited and in reality the H/KN coins in average condition are usually worth sub £1. I'm a cynic after years of doing this - but that's how it is.

I'm flippin useless with Access, i must get my head around this thread and try and work a little with Colins original table he sent me, so go easy if i ask many many questions in the coming weeks (time allowing of course) Maybe someone (Sion, Colin, Peckris) could start me off on a beginners course (for dummies). Where do i start making this table lol I suppose i'd better find out which Access i have first eh

Help with Silver Groat identification
azda replied to crashetta's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Normally OBV is the side with the monarchs head. I cropped the pics you uploaded here. If you can get close to it without losing focus and take the flash off then hopefully will make it easier to identify -

Quuen Anne - fake? help wanted please
azda replied to newkidonbloc's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Hi Peter, just a little advice, try and crop around the coin so you are left with virtually the whole coin in the picture, 2nd thing is to try and reduce the light as it's a bit strong and hard to see any tell tale signs as its to shiny for want of a better word, also photograph of both sides. -
Well, you say you have 140 coins. I'd like to see them all personally, and as this is a coin forum, i'm sure others would to and they would also help with grading and price. Some dealers will buy entire collections depending of grades and rarities etc, but being a Penny fan i asked for those first Take your time if you wish to upload the entire collection though, 140 coins will take time to photograph and it will be benificial to you also to have good pictures as references should you decide to sell them to dealers or ebay etc. So Pennies first please
-
The 1919KN along with the 1918 KN could be worth quite a few pounds depending on the state of the coin, so my advice is for now, upload a few good pictures of both sides of the pennies i've mentioned (150KB MAX UPLOAD) so post 1 pic each side of the limit size, it's easier to grade and value then, and then reply to each post with a new picture. You may also get a few buyers here for pennies and other stuff if you are looking to sell, it beats ebay charges and dealers will normally offer around 50% of the value of a coin. I'll leave that part up to you. Good quality pics if you can please.

Help with Silver Groat identification
azda replied to crashetta's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Tim, if you can upload a better OBV picture without so much light Rob could help a little more with identification, as you can see, cropping the picture gives a better view of the coin. If you have no means in which to do that, then just upload another here and i'll sort it out the upload it again -
