Money back PLUS 130 quid OVER what he paid, what would you call it? 5 Negatives would be a dent, no? He actaully has a negative feedback for overgrading, but to far back for you to see. The other problem to your Dealer/buyer/buyer/dealer scenario accumulator is what if the buyer is quite a newbie? I see by your feedback that you have over a thousnad score, so not so wet behind the ears. How long have you been collecting?

London coins lot 1574 september, then check the 1869 penny he sold Colin, exact same one. The the wreath Crown i listed in here a few posts back, then his cleaned UNC he just sold, a few posts back to. Sorry to be on a tangent also, but take a look at London coins September sales lot 1574. There's a die crack on the REV of both coins in the same place. The wreath crown and the cleaned same one is at the top and next post down of this page Anyhow, i'll get of the subject now before i spit my dummy out again

Still waiting on a catalogue unfortunately, emailed last week or 10 days ago ish -
I would not be willing to publicly slate someone on the back of something "someone" told me. Personal experience is a completely different scenario. If a wrong is being done, I am not condoning it, but as with anyone's grading there is the potential for a difference of opinion, and offering a full refund would seem an acceptable solution in the circumstances, it does not necessarily imply bad practise. Many people buy from people then sell on for more, that is in simple terms what coin dealing is, and there is nothing wrong in that if it is handled correctly. If you at the time as a seller were satisfied with the price you got for an item, why should you then be annoyed if the person you sold them to got more for the item. If you had asked him what they were worth and he made you an offer then sold them for substantially more, I could understand the annoyance, and this in my mind is a completely different scenario. I would suggest that London Coins has perhaps handled a lot more coins than Martin, Colin. Perhaps their grading standards have slipped 2 grades recently for Martin to up it by the said grades? Or is someone seeing the dollar signs. As i said, if i came round to your house and took a grand from your wallet i'm sure you wouldn't be pleased. He knew the grade of the 1869 and gave it another for profit, its in B&W Colin. So let me adjust this text a little. There's a few dealers amoungst us, so hands up all those dealers who've cleaned and overgraded a coin to make profit? Colin, we're talking about 1000GBP, not 10 or 20 quid, there's a helluva difference and if i defrauded someone of a grand and that person found out that i'd done so, say a bank or the DHSS even, what happens? These people that defraud the Government that are on Unemployment, do you think they just get a good feedback? No, they get a criminal record. I can't understand why some people are overlooking this fact just because he has a good feedback on ebay, its ridiculous.

Yes, pretty much what I'd heard. Although the history of maundy sets seems to be a little bit clouded in mist, if you took maundy money as we know it to be an early 19th century invention you wouldn't be far wrong. Many so-called maundy coins are immensely common and far exceeded the numbers required for the ceremony; 1763 3d pieces are amongst the most common coins of George III's reign and turn up quite regularly. Just bought a few odds and sods of Maundy money, 1746 3d 6 over 3..1746 2d AUNC 6 over 0 appears to be unlisted 1743 2d AUNC 3 over 0 and a 1670 1d EF 70 over 69, so will wait and see

And quite a lot of wear for an EF. Let me just say something on this subject, i was speaking to a guy who regularly buys from Martin and recently he sent 5 coins back due to them being cleaned, he got a full refund and 130 quid extra to keep sthum. Says a little bit more of the man, obviously he's trying to keep his slate (feedback) CLEAN. Unfortunately when he tells people a coin is an AU you should take that with a pinch of salt. Look at the 1869 he sold, he said it was AU, book price in UNC 3000GBP in the grade he actually bought it at EF 1250GBP, so effectively he's ripped someone off for a grand, would you be happy with that if it was your cash? I don't condone his blatant fraud, because for that amount of cash, this is what it amounts to. If he clearly stated what the coin actually was and see where it went then i'd say fair enough, but this guy is just getting plain greedy. Accumulator, you spent 50 quid, how would you feel if you had been reading these boards and had spent the best part of 2500 GBP on a coin that was no more than EF, i bet you'd be on the phone asking for a large chunk of that cash back, am sure as hell i would be. At least he didn't wear a mask, but he should do...

I was thumbing Spink and Esc and noticed that there was no Maundy sets issued from 1713 to 1722 and then issued one in 1723 yet they issued the 4d in 1717 and 21,23 and 27 the 3d in 1717,21,23 and 1727 the 2d in those same years but added 1726 but in 1717 the didn't issue a 1d but did in 1716 and 1718, any reason behind this curious staggered mint issues? Curious about the 1d though and why nothing in 1717, i thought with poorer peeps on the UK in those times that it would have been a common denomination?

I have another, but written on the little white envelope is Phillip V 1694 Spanish Netherland Namur, what am not certain about is the fact Phillip V never came to the throne until 1700, so any help would be appreciated ta very muckle -
Yup, looks as if its the very same one, only cleaned. The marks on the neck give it away, although, so does the wear on the bust itself. Geezus, this boy is making a killing with his shit. A 345 GBP profit. This is his wifes ebay name *country*cottage*interiors* Notice how the stars between each word are the same as his. The reason i know it's his wife is because she, or rather he bought 2 coins from me and then resold them on his ebay name. They both changed their IDs when i notified one guy who he sold one of my coins to that the coin had been cleaned and he paid over 150 GBP more than he bought it from me for. Thats when he started his private auctions also. Am sure he has another ID for buying on ebay now as his wifes ebay ID isn't buying coins anymore

Its amazing what you can find on the internet. This was Martin Platts purchase http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200531704244&category=141127 he paid 395 pounds for it. Obviously before he sold it to some unsuspecting sap he dipped it. Anyone recognise it, he was selling it a few days back

A friend of mine sent me some old detector finds over from the UK as he wants me to sell them for him. In the bag was this hammered coin and am unsure what it is. Can anyone help with identification please.

So yes Scott and Peck were right, the reason was that back in the day they didn't have purses, so they would thread them through a string and wear it as a necklace type thingy.

I think it's because a prescient old Chinaman just knew that someday holes would be rated very highly on eBay and decided to make some high quality examples. Well thats not quite correct Peckris2..............Bring back auld Peckris I can reliably inform you that auld Peckris also hasnt a clue! Is it anything to do with stringing theem on a ... string? Are you stringing me along New Peckris

I was showing a guy tonight an old auction catalogue book i had, we came to some old Chinese coins and he said to me, "do you know why these have a hole in the middle"? Well i didn't, so he gave me his explaination. Maybe what he told me was correct, but i'm wondering if anyone else knows? I've uploaded a chinese coin picture as an example of what i'm meaning. Answers on a postcard.

Germany was very much frontier country for the Roman empire and as that frontier kept changing location with people hiding their dosh one minute, coming back to fetch it the next (or not as the case may be...), I would imagine that the south and west of the country would offer very rich pickings for a detectorist. On the other hand parts of it may also be awash with unexploded ordnance... Lol, i know what you mean Red, given the fact Italy is only 4hrs away, i guess it was a good staging point for them. I'm hopefully going to take a trip to the Museum where the find is kept, hopefully i am allowed to take some pictures and will post them back here when i have them. Would be interested also Colin in what you know and the German guys, maybe a good detector for ploughed fields etc, might have a bash early next year when i have maybe understood whats involved etc. Maybe you can list the detectorist site in the useful links part of this forum, under free for all is where its at

So i was speaking to a work collegue today, he noticed i had a coin auction book with me, so we had a wee natter. He tells me that German law states that you can detect here with permission, but if you dig something thats more than 3 meter under the soil then it belongs to the state, no ifs and buts lol. He also told me that 6km from where i work there's a small church in that area, in 1972 they must have been building something and the builders found a hoard of 8000 Roman GOLD coins along with Jewellery and the usual pots etc, must try and find out more on this story. He did mention that some areas around Munich has different periods of finds, celtic roman etc, seriously must get me a detector. Does anyone of the older gents here know anything about the coins found?
