Interesting coin auction
azda replied to Auction 1's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I agree, maybe the auction house should have waited to have the coins looked at and photographed properly, the outcome might have been different had high res images been uploaded. As you can see auction1, many of us are thinking the same thing here, and that's just 1 forum from however many you've posted the same link to, so perhaps you'll get the same response in the other places which to my mind would be a clear indicator that you might be rushing sales through and perhaps not obtaining the best prices for the vendor. -

What i would say to this question ( Do you have much family time left if you are doing this as well as your day job? (Wife’s concern) Limit yourself to how much time a day you're going to be behind a computer, think of it as a working day, 8-10hrs a day and be done, perhaps 12hrs initially sorting things out and setting up the small business. Perhaps also involve the wife from time to time, ie going to coin fairs and taking her along. There's aslo a thread on the forum that red riley started, he now has a new website up and running, think it took all in all 2-3 months.

Hello Gary and welcome to the forum. I assume at the time of writing ESC, Raynor never came across the variety. Spink 2010 also lists as extremely rare, but last year (2009 book) they also listed an 1817 Halfcrown S/I in Pense as extremely rare but this year it has a price beside it, the reason being that perhaps not so many came through auction houses. I don't know how many exactly are kicking around, i think it would be impossible to judge. If you have an image please feel free to upload

Totally agree 400, its about Time eBay got their act together with the counterfeiting thats rife there. Even when something gets reported it takesthem days to react and usually by that time the item has ended.

Looks like there's something above the top serif of the 7, it also, whatever it is, curves, is there something under the 5 also, to the left?

1887 golden jubilee - replica 1970?!
azda replied to a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
A photo and what denomination etc, you have linked to taxfreegold, so is it a Sovereign, yet you state its copper nickel, so quite confusing what you are even talking about right now. -
You are only allowed 150kb max photo per post, so if yours are bigger than that, then you must crop them down to that size or a little less, say 149kb to be on the safe side, sometimes a cropped pic will be say 150.10kb, so that would be to big. At the bottom of the reply page it says add attachment, click that then it will ask where the file is, point to the file then press add to upload, then press your reply

Unfortunately not all Sovereigns or Halfs sell for bullion value, there are some rare types and early dates that are worth a lot more. Whats the name of the app?

And welcome back Peckris. Laptop is fixed then?

I used to live in a little Lancashire town called Colne. A friend of the family sent the kids a xmas card with some gift tokens in for xmas, it arrived eventually in March the following year after travelling to Cologne in Germany first. I mean, how do you confuse the UK with Germany? -
The die axis should be opposite ends to each other. IE when the kings head is upright britannia should point downwards.

1866 BBritanniar? In Hand Pix
azda replied to azda's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
That in itself doesn't make it a BBITANIAR shilling. Bloomsbury no longer do coin auctions. I possess 5 lots bought at Bloomsbury, 4 of which I could identify from elsewhere prior to the sale. The problem is that I only ever won 8 lots in total in their sales and 3 of those had to be returned as wrongly described. You wouldn't dare bid to blind on lots, so something as esoteric as a BBITANIAR shilling I would want to see in the hand. Don't get me wrong Rob, i'm not doubting the mechanics of your reply, i've just never seen one personally and not sure how it was altered after the B error was found. Thats where my curiosity comes into play, hence i said it looked no different from the Bloomsbury piece. Saying that, when i opened and looked yesterday at it i said straight away that i didn't think it was a BB, the bottom strike of the R curves as though it was curving like a B would, and there's something under the Leg of the R, whether its doubled or overstrike am still unsure, hence my reply. I wish i could find a decent picture of one though. -

There is something underneath it, the bottom right of the und leg and at the loop. Maybe doubling? Overstrike?
