Insurance for your collection
azda replied to £400 for a Penny ?'s topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Unfortunately i don't trust any Insurance Company, they all try and wriggle out of paying out in event of a claim. Their small print is the tricky part and they know 90% of people don't actually read the whole agreement, then when a claim arises they say, did you read part 2b of subsection 357 paragraph 45. I hope no one has to make a claim, but my advice is, is to sit down and really read what you've got because there's always 1 small loophole somewhere. As i said, i have a safety deposit box at my bank, i pay 10 euros quarterly and can come and go daily if i feel, so for the time being i have no need for Insurance because i don't keep anything at home. I'm on my way now to deposit a few coins from recent purchases, apart from that 1902 LT Penny, emailed and called them yesterday without reply, but it's definately going back to them. -

1763 British Coin
azda replied to argentumandcoins's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Unfortunately i don't know anyone who buys the book before the coin. I stumbled into coins but it took me at least 6 months to buy a book because i did'nt realise i was going to start collecting. I do have a few books now though, but the same does'nt apply to everyone -

1933 Penny on "The One Show" (BBC1 09/08/10)
azda replied to Beebman's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Just a short one regarding the 1933 Penny. Was it actually genuine on the One Show. My 2nd is a personal opinion, but if one of those EVER came up for sale i think we'd be talking 6 figures these days. Am i right in saying only 4 were minted? Anyone know who owns any? Does the Royal Family have one, and i wonder if they keep a collection. -
Hello 17, this isa site for coins and not youtube young man. That could be construed as spamming and in turn could lead to you getting slapped wrists from the site owner. If you wish to contine being a member of the site i suggest you stick to coins and post the music on Facebook or somewhere other than here.

1763 British Coin
azda replied to argentumandcoins's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
I think provenance is a good start, although how do you do that with every single coin Rob? You also stated 2 things, 1 Do your own research, which yes can be done, but then you 2nd point lead to a slight hitch is the 1st point, if auction houses are having difficulty telling these apart then how are the more general or weekend buyers going to achieve this? Some people just don't sit and look at coins all day as their business, only as their hobby, we tend to rely on dealers and acution houses to give us the real deal. So what now? I've seen one on ebay.co.uk (850 quid) and to be honest i don't know if its the real deal or not, personally it doesn't look real, but again i really don't know, so if anyone could shed some light on WHY these coins are not genuine i think it would help others on the forum other than having to dig away and perhaps come up with the wrong conclusion -
Ok so 3D Vicky was'nt so 3D, how he did the picture i've no idea. On the upside it is a good coin, but i already had one, so another for the sons small collection

Yes i have to agree Tom, i reoprted a few spam posts but he never replied, but someone did delete 1 or 2 posts but said he didn't have full power to take them all out. Maybe Chris has been busy, he should maybe let someone have full rights to delete things as it's been quite annoying recently.

And if you were in any doubt about the undated 20p, i will agree with the previous 2 posts, overhyped by people trying to make a huge fast buck, some did in the beginning but now they have levelled out and a pristine example is only worth around 40-60 pounds. I think it would be much better to keep the older stuff. Looking forward to seeing some scans though

Hibernia Half Penny Date Error

Welcome Tim, a picture always paints a 100 words but it does sound strange that the date reads 1969 -
1575 Sixpence

i have to be honest, i did'nt realise a coin should smell. What should it smell off and am i paying to much for mine that don't smell? -
Yes you are right Fubar, both coins seem the same, if you look at the REV to the right of the date there is a small light scratch and the same scratch appears in both auctions, so no idea what he's playing at, whether it's a mistake or whatever Yes, you're right, good spot. Well, I can't think of a scenario in which this has a happy ending, sadly.... Nope me either, although i did send an email and asked if there was some mistake in the listing because he's selling the same coin twice

If you could do me a favour and hit Health and Safety afterwards, full of absolute hot air, the UK has gone H&S mad, it's amazing any work gets done, it must take 7 and a half hours to put the safety equiptment on, then 30 mins lunch then finished for the day, ABSOLUTE IDIOTS rant over

unless he's using the same pictures to sell 1901 Pennies. Check out my new aquistion, arrived today and is in the coin aquisition of the week thread

This part of your reply 1949 (Another possibility is that he has photoshopped a normal 1936, to look anomalous, again attracting possible customers. Maybe it's his only way of offloading 1936 pennies) I believe that he hasn't done this but believe that he's spotted the possible 1 due to the fact he's told me to keep the coin he sent me and is refunding me the money i paid, so would suggest something else

Yes unfortunately this seems to be the case 400, although the guy i bought the 1901 3D penny from seems to have 2 more of the same looking coin listed which i find rather strange. They can be seen here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VICTORIA-ONE-PENNY1901-/250673491566?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item3a5d4dee6e and here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1901-VICTORIA-PENNY-HIGH-GRADE-/250672865991?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item3a5d4462c7

Unfortunately i'd rather not say Tom, due to the fact that in Germany they have the American mentality where they will sue if you look at them the wrong way. Here's one scenario for you, they now have lawyers who scour ebay for anyone who's used someone elses pictures or text in their ebay listing. There was a case when someone had resold something but used the previous ebay text and pix, he was sucessfully sued for 700 euros. Thats the downside of living in Germany unfortunately
