  5. But as has been stated Tom, a slab doesn't guarantee autheticity, because as we've also heard, the Chinese has slabs, and this guy is slabbing his own, which means that slabs are now fallable. Not saying he's selling fakes, but it might be only a matter of time.

  7. There was logic behind the purchase Peck (honest)
  8. You just have to take a look through his negative feedback to see that the grade on his holders are less than the coins actually are. Many have resubmitted the coins they have purchased from him to PCGS etc and they are coming back in lesser grades and also with the words CLEANED. This tool needs reporting. The other greater issue with this is the fact that if he can obtain slabs and slab his own, then i'm sure fakes can also be done in this simple manner also, very worrying
  9. But, and this is a HUGGGGGGE but, it's not just rookies who are buying/selling fakes, i've pointed out 2 or 3 to a German dealer of British fakes, i've also heard of auction houses listing fakes and then having to pull them when someone else spots them, so it's not just the novice, we're all in this collectively
  10. Lol, i never thought a coin would bring so much joy and laughter, so if we can focus a little ladies and look at it this way, if it is a dot and i didn't buy it i would have kicked myself, and if it is a dot, who will be laughing longer? If its not a dot, then no harm done as it only cost 3 pound and some pennies, so it wasn't a hardship to the pocket, so lets await on the coins arrival and see what we have then.
  11. So i got 3 Pennies, not sure if they've been cleaned or not, there doesn't appear to have any brush marks associated with cleaning, just normal wear, but the 1945 has no mint darkening, hence the reason i went for the 3. Not fantastic grades, that wasn't what interested me, so any opinions if these have been cleaned or not? 1945 first, hi res
  12. Lol Peckris, thats the funniest thing EVER hahaha
  13. My penny turned up this morning without my even having paid for it. So you may have something waiting for you when you get home... Did you get an invoice with it Derek?
  14. Can i just make a comment to freewheels initial post. I thought ebay only allowed certain APPROVED grading companies to be listed, if this guy is listing his own, and if he's not certified, why is he getting away with selling his stuff, i'll tell you why, because of his huge feedback and the fact he brings in $$$$$$ to Ebay, its a simple fact.
  15. The bloke behind London coins has been around for about 30 years or so, I guess the benchmarks might be his own personal collection, I don't know, by reports though they are supposed to be quite impressive. CGS itself has graded about 13,000 coins now I think in approx 5 years is it ? No, you don't have to be certified to be a grader/slabber, you're just offering an opinion and perhaps, some form of guarantee which is a more difficult area. Then i think a 30 year collection would have been a little easier/cheaper to obtain than they are nowadays, the demand for high grade specimens have pushed prices so high that an average collector couldn't afford right now with the economic climate, hence people tend to find bargains or fill their cabinet with whatever comes along just to race to get that date run finished. A friend of mine does that, he buys worn discs 90% of the time, then tells me he's completed whatever, my thoughts were, well whats the point if its just a disc, i buy a coin to admire it, not to complete a series or date run.
  16. Actually, all joking aside, we could do with a second UK slabber to compete with CGS.... I totally agree with you 400, i think their standards are above everyone elses benchmarks, and probably impossible to get a top grade from them, but as i have been saying all along, or asking, how long has CGS been grading and where did their benchmarks come from, the British Museum or what? I'll also agree with Declan, how can a guy grade and slab his stuff himself, don't you have to be certified for this?
  17. Did it cost much ? 3 pound and some pennies, so no biggie there. Got a couple more last night, 3 for my son and a 1944 for me, will upload now in coin aquisition
  18. All will be revealed when it arrives i suppose, the dot next to the E looks larger than these others that have been spotted, so no idea.
  19. Hi David, unfortunately thats as good as it gets until it arrives in hand.
  20. Personally i think the sad thing is, is that when people report items to ebay, they do nothing about it, its all about money for them, with no interest if some poor sap has been stung buying crap or fake goods. This for me is the HUGE downside to Ebay, if they took some action sometimes it would help a little, instead they are just interested in the FVF and LISTING cash. If this was a company like Asds or Tescos, they'd be pulled up by the trading standards, so why haven't trading standards pulled up Ebay about the amount of fakes that get hightlighted by reputable dealers/sellers, it amazes me that they get away with this, and damn frustrating to, have you tried this reporting BS, it takes them 3/4 days to react, by then the item is gone. Oh and stick around, i may have found something that i will post shortly, want to see what you think about it (coin related of course)
  21. I don't know whether this is a breach of protocol, but I thought I would say that I have a couple of Unc 1944s for sale and one GEF that avoided the toning process. Is the site running Derek?
  22. Looks like i might have got 2 then, in fact i must have won because the 2 i bid on only had 1 bid on, which hopefully were mine, funny thing is, i forgot which 2 they were but they weren't anything major, so no panic, just 2 upgrades
