It's interesting. There's a small but dedicated group of Apple-haters (all of them PC users) but when you stop and ask any of them exactly why they hate Apple so, they don't have any rational or logical reason to give! (Not one that's based in fact, anyway). They just start to get all emotional and defensive and you can't get a clear word out of them. There's no sense of "Oh, it's just another system / computer / company - each to their own". No, there's a real sense of loathing comes out, totally irrational, as if a Mac had fallen on their head when they were in their pram. It's like some years ago, I worked with a guy who loved music, but hated The Beatles. When asked why, he just said "Overhyped rubbish! They were never THAT good! Anyway, their music all sounds the same to me." I think he was just reacting against the prevailing view of history. A natural iconoclast .. like Apple-bashers.

Turkish/Arabic perhaps

The <50 feedback, in this case, is less than 50 "sales" or "purchases," not 50 % feedback approval. I think you and I are talking about separate things. I don't think I have ever seen a feedback of 50% ( and I hope I never do, LOL). Many sellers won't even accept bids from Buyers who have a feedback of <5, and PayPal won't pay more than $175 regardless of the sales price, if the Buyer has <50 (sales or purchases) feedback.

Ok so this will be Spink 3710A (Fine Grade) 20 quid
-
1746 Shilling, graded less then Fine in my humble opinion, although from the pictures, the coin looks a little Bronzie to me but 3.50 is ok
-
I think the 1st is a model halfpenny, does it say MODEL on the legend?

If anyone has links to add (coin related only please) then please feel free to add to this thread along with a short description of what the link is about.

I wish they would filter some of the dross though, it can be tedious sometimes looking at discs

For those who like to check prices from various auctions, a link to London coins past auction Sept 2010 http://www.londoncoins.co.uk/index.php?page=Pastresults
-
Its always better to upload a picture Hello17, easier to tell the grade that way
-
I think you read that in CCGB, but Chris also has a question mark against it, personally i don't know.

Ok, so you have quoted the Spink price, so you obviously have the book. There you will see 2 prices for the coin in UNC, you stated the JEB is below the bust, so what you were actually quoting was the JEB on the TRUNC price of 250, yours is the type below the TRUNC with a UNC price of 25 pounds.....Spink 3928, the other price is for the JEB on Viccies shoulder, this is where you have got confused azda, I was telling him that his coins were the 'below' type, not the 'on' type. I am not confused at all. I think you have me confused with the op!? Ah ok, i read it wrong lol

Here is my piece of advice Numis, you never stop learning about coins, until the day you decide to stop collecting, The best advice is to ask advice, this is what the forum ia about, its free and we all learn from various members here. I have learnt a lot from these people and i'll never stop asking questions if i'm in doubt about a coin i perhaps have my eye on but unsure about it. As Peckris and Red said, Spink overprice some coins and undervalue others, people who buy the Spink book often rely of what is written, but as someone else said, it's better to look through auctions, not just ebay, but dealers auctions and look at prices paid for coins and their grades. Hopefully you now have a slight insight into the way things work in the coin world and you'll come back with more questions, as i said, never be afraid to ask a question, even if you think it might be a silly question, new collectors are often good soft options for dealers etc and can rush into rash, overpriced, overhyped purchases, i would think 75% of members have done the same in the outset of their starting to collect coins. Viel Spaß, und gute nacht aus München

I was. Is this where the 180 pennies came from? -

On the bust is the rarer variety, under the bust is the commoner type, why do you think you only paid 7 pounds for the both of them?
-
Hi James, there is a lot of the coins on ebay in bulk, i don't think anyone would actually collect these, perhaps 1 for their collection at best
-
These are the more common variety and Spink has seriously overvalued these, a typical UNC would probably be worth 50 quid

Anyone heard of a Viccie Silver Halfpenny? Not maundy, like a regular Halfpenny but in silver? The picture attached is the reason i ask. The guy tells me it's silver, never heard of one before, now whether i'm just being dumb or perhaps missing something? -

I can see enough bronze colour showing through at the edges to make me 99% sure it's a bronze halfpenny that's been silvered post-issue. It's in a nice grade, so if the date is right, and the price is right, and it floats your boat, go for it! Don't fall for any "Rare" BS though. It should be priced LESS than the regular issue. Am just waiting Peck, i've asked him if he can tell me the weight of it,its graded UNC, but Britts face looks a smidge worn to me, maybe just the camera position etc, but as you say, it does look decent, doesn't state rare etc, just a normal Halfpenny. -

Hello, You have a good memory! I advertised for a few years for various rarities but give up trying, not one single reply, even after offering, Your Price Paid, not one offer, not even anybody claiming to own one of the rarities with asking price one million pounds.
