  1. David, there are custom boxes on ebay, bought one myself last week
  2. Yes it was Scott, but if you read it, it said they were about to throw an old chest out, so they decided to get a locksmith to open it up first and inside it contained all the coins

    Useful links (members posts)

A link to various European Grades as well as the American and the English equivilent http://www.acadiacoins.com/educate.htm
  4. Did anyone notice my Maundy set in coin aquisition of the week?
  5. Are you telling me you don't have a metal detector ? No Verniers, no detector - call yourself an obssesive coinhead ? The reason i don't have a detector 400 is that the Germans can have me put in jail for digging up their land, it's not like the UK where you can ask the farmer, here is a totally different kettle of fish. Whats annoying is that i live around a lot of farmland and i bet there's a lot of unfound objects under that sheeeeeeet
  6. Okay but is the design of one side incuse? Like these: http://www.coinsgb.com/Error_Coins/Brockage.html or are both the bust's raised? My guess is it is two heads sides of coins joined together. Often called a magicians coins. Check the edge for a joining line using a magnifying glass. Seen a penny with the same thing on ebay, the guy wants a grand for it lol
  7. Yes. You have until a certain date to register your interest in a lot and then after the closing date, it's between you and whoever else has entered the minimum starting bid. You then keep going backwards and forwards until everyone else gives up and you are the last man standing. Can go on for a week or more. Oh right, thanks for that. Presumably the winner is the one whose bid still stands after say, 24 hours, with no further rival bids ? ~ and that everybody is still in the race until that point. From memory, last time I got an email every time I was outbid asking me if I wanted to continue. I think there must be a time limit if they don't hear from you, can't remember what it is though. I think it's called "taking the piss" I'll save my money for auctions where I know when it ends and where my first bid is my only bid (whether highest lowest or derisory compared to others). Some nice looking stuff so good luck to those of you who put yourselves forward for the hassle! Where's the coins? I see the announcement but can't see a link to view the coins
  8. Invest in a USB microscope, that will definately help
  9. And your reply to this Scott in coin aquisition of the week was "the close 96 is the most common, but still a nice 1896" yet now in CCGB its something else? So a new opinion now because of CCGB?
  10. The 1896 Penny that i showed in the "Coin aquisiton of the week" Scott, you quoted that it was the most common with a wide gap between the 18 and 96, now its something different? So much confusion between collectors equals chaos me thinks

    1874 H penny F73

I now check EVERY Penny with my new USB micrsoscope, well, you never know what you may find
  12. Did anyone see it before the seller pulled it. Apparently it was in the newspaper. Article here http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1302005/1933-penny-coin-valued-80k-offered-eBay-suddenly-withdrawn.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
  13. Can anyone give me some info on this subject as i don't have any reference material on this. Obviously it's a Charles II Pattern Farthing In Silver. It states P 407 am assuming it's reffering to Peck 407? Whats an average price on this to be buying at? Obviously its a bit specialist

    Insurance for your collection

In reality that's ludicrously expensive. I believe Azda posted on here saying how much cheaper it was in Germany. It's not the £30-£50 a year that's the issue, but the £10 every time you want to access it. No doubt he will confirm, but apparently there is no access charge in Germany. No there is NO access charge here Red, i pay a rental charge for the safety deposit box, maybe 20 euros a quarter, but i can go everday as long as the bank is open without extra charge. RIP OFF BRITAIN, another reason i left.

    I found a free one

  16. Ouch, that looks sore. Did'nt you see a picture when you bought this? Personally i would'nt have bought it with such heavy Verd being honest
  17. It looks like a normal I to me, just the bottom of the I is a little worn to the left making it look like an inverted 1
  18. I'd suggest that the coin is in better condition than F, i'd say nearer the VF mark personally
  19. read the last comment http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/news/article.html?in_article_id=511679&in_page_id=2&expand=true#c529496
  20. Thats just an example of the 1933 400 lol
  21. I posted a message asking her to come onto the forum and let us have a looksy
  22. I've found a lower-spec version for 80 quid plus VAT: http://www.absolute-data-services.co.uk/dinolite_am211.htm I'm wondering if this might be good enough simply for scanning my collection for insurance record purposes. (and to post pictures here to ask for info! ) Its actually 80 quid Exc VAT, so add whatever the VAT is at these days.
  23. You know, they are selling these, or something similar in my local aldi for 35 euros, connects to the pc. Might go there shortly and take a quick look. Whats the spec?
