  1. I am assuming that foil is the similar kind as foil caps that seal milk canisters...it must be backed with some kind of material to create that lasting impression with such sharp detail. I would not recommend anyone trying this with rare coins directly on foil... On the Mohs scale of mineral hardness aluminium is 2.5-3 and copper is 3.0 so there is every chance of scratches being sustained! However here is my attempt, and I think it summarises my thoughts on the idea too! As your all friends I am happy to do a discount... Foil 1944 impression halfpenny RARE £125.00 Blu-tac 1944 brockage halfpenny RARE £62.50 Genuine Rare halfpenny RARE £0.05 Or I am happy to do a deal on all three for £150.00 Free postage, and I don’t charge for using paypal either :-) Hmmm... you haven't mentioned plasticine. I think I see a gap in the market. Nor paper mache. i see another gap and could sell you the patent for 1.25 million, paypal of course, only to those with a registered address though
  2. Definately, and a tin foiled 1933 also does'nt interest me :-)
  3. So i would like to offer members a wee service, at your own cost that is. I'm not making any money, nor do i want to. You'll pay for all costs. I just thought i'd offer anyone who's interested in sampling some of the Oktoberfest beer and who's never had the chance to come and try it for themselves a little chance to try the real ale. Normally Oktoberfest beers alcohol content is on average 5-6% alcohol, some are stronger, i'll get you various types. Before and during the Oktoberfest, the drink markets here offer the 1/2 litre bottles of beer, which is quite higher alcohol content than the normal beers they sell. I'd be willing to purchase the beers for you and send them over, you'll obviously have to pay for the beer, packaging and postage, i won't make anything at all from any of you. 9 beers is very cheap, the postage isn't. I sent 9 beers to my brother in Scotland and it cost 22 euros just for postage, each beer costs on average 1 euro. Yes it may sound expensive for a few beers, but it's extremely good, and if you've never tried it, it is worth the effort. As i said, i'm not asking for anything from it, only that you pay all the costs involved, which means buying the beer, postage and packaging. You can pay by Paypal or International bank transfer.
  4. An interesting coin is an interesting coin Tom, what about a 1926 Mod Effigy, or many many others that have been in circulation, 1909 with dot, 1918, 1919 KH, all rare, and so many others to speak off, you can't have your cake and eat it. They are all interesting to each individual
  5. So what is that then Az? A repro? Where's the pic from - did you say the seller of the foils sold it on ebay earlier - in which case it's conclusive. Even if not, Britannia's face and hand don't look right. It surely isn't an original 1933 coin? (Or am I losing my touch?) No Tom, i never mentioned ANYWHERE that the seller of the foil sold a 1933 penny on ebay, i doubt anyone would be that stupid. What i said was that this was the impression from that coin from 1933. He tells me that an aquaintance of his did these impressions for a few friends, something that the bronze and copper collector at the beginning of the thread has already stated. Maybe look at some of the images thats been uploaded, as someone pointed out, there is actually 2 different dies, so perhaps it is just ure eyes. Actually it must be your eyes Tom if thats how you read the posts lol
  6. I see the cynics amoungst us, so look at the OBV of the foil and the coin to the left of the nose, you can see the imprint of 2 hairs from the coin itself. I'm not on commission here, but they both look the same to me, and i'm not a huge fan of the seller either.
  7. The 1st 1933 picture i posted is from the seller of the foil impression. The impression is from that coin, you can see on the OBV of both the foil impression and the actual coin the 2 hair marks, so anyone going to have a pop at this? Is that provenance enough?
  8. This one is from a certain coin house in Manchester that they sold, hope they don't mind either. Don't know how much they sold it for, but it was listed like so Pattern by Andre Laurillier. Freeman 786. R19. BMC 2284. As struck with underlying lustre. 1 of only 4 in existence. The most important and renowned date of penny !!
  9. The one i posted is original, just above your post Badger
  10. I think there would have to be a small amount of pressure applied 400 in order to press every detail Thought i'd add this here
  11. I think there would have to be a small amount of pressure applied 400 in order to press every detail
  12. Well he must have been a brave man trying to take an imprint of that
  13. You got a 1933 then 400? lol, send me a copy please

    Insurance for your collection

Unfortunately i don't trust any Insurance Company, they all try and wriggle out of paying out in event of a claim. Their small print is the tricky part and they know 90% of people don't actually read the whole agreement, then when a claim arises they say, did you read part 2b of subsection 357 paragraph 45. I hope no one has to make a claim, but my advice is, is to sit down and really read what you've got because there's always 1 small loophole somewhere. As i said, i have a safety deposit box at my bank, i pay 10 euros quarterly and can come and go daily if i feel, so for the time being i have no need for Insurance because i don't keep anything at home. I'm on my way now to deposit a few coins from recent purchases, apart from that 1902 LT Penny, emailed and called them yesterday without reply, but it's definately going back to them.

    1763 British Coin

Unfortunately i don't know anyone who buys the book before the coin. I stumbled into coins but it took me at least 6 months to buy a book because i did'nt realise i was going to start collecting. I do have a few books now though, but the same does'nt apply to everyone
  17. 4. Under the foundation stone of the University of London Building in Bloomsbury, London (a 'proof' penny) Anyone got a JCB to rent Might as well get the Stone of Destiny back while i'm down there digging for the 1933
  18. Just a short one regarding the 1933 Penny. Was it actually genuine on the One Show. My 2nd is a personal opinion, but if one of those EVER came up for sale i think we'd be talking 6 figures these days. Am i right in saying only 4 were minted? Anyone know who owns any? Does the Royal Family have one, and i wonder if they keep a collection.

    1763 British Coin

I think provenance is a good start, although how do you do that with every single coin Rob? You also stated 2 things, 1 Do your own research, which yes can be done, but then you 2nd point lead to a slight hitch is the 1st point, if auction houses are having difficulty telling these apart then how are the more general or weekend buyers going to achieve this? Some people just don't sit and look at coins all day as their business, only as their hobby, we tend to rely on dealers and acution houses to give us the real deal. So what now? I've seen one on ebay.co.uk (850 quid) and to be honest i don't know if its the real deal or not, personally it doesn't look real, but again i really don't know, so if anyone could shed some light on WHY these coins are not genuine i think it would help others on the forum other than having to dig away and perhaps come up with the wrong conclusion
  21. Ok so 3D Vicky was'nt so 3D, how he did the picture i've no idea. On the upside it is a good coin, but i already had one, so another for the sons small collection
  22. Got this on Ebay, but was wondering why the bust of Victotia and Britannia stand out so much, so much so, i was like a moth to a lightbulb. The bust is like 3D. Anyone tell me why? I've added a pic of an 1899 OBV that Palves uploaded in his thread as a comparission, hope he does'nt mind

    Spammers

Yes i have to agree Tom, i reoprted a few spam posts but he never replied, but someone did delete 1 or 2 posts but said he didn't have full power to take them all out. Maybe Chris has been busy, he should maybe let someone have full rights to delete things as it's been quite annoying recently.
  24. Ok, seriously it's not the best looking or highest graded coin, but look at the date, to the left of the 1, is that another smaller 1? Also the P & Y in PENNY look out of line, unless its the photo
