  1. Its also good to arm yourself with some books if your going to get into the coin collecting. Spink is probably the biggest seller, but for specifics such as Pennies you would probably want either Freemans or Michael Gouby's Penny book, they list varieties of Pennies

Geez, you got all that info from that coin John lol
  3. The Victoria has some bronze disease on the REV

    Design your own coins

What about your own head on a coin
  5. Just wondering what the biggest bargain you ladies have had for a coin, perhaps you were thinking "i'm going to pay 500 pounds for this and actually got it for 100, just an example, so what coin made you smile inside because you paid wayyyyyy less than expected. Maybe you can post a picture of the coin to?
  6. I paid 41 pounds for a 1st edition Michael Marsh Gold Sov Book from fleabay
  7. As you've seen am on my way into the penny collecting, i've started an Excel sheet with grades, price paid and spink numbers and so on, so my next column i would like Freeman numbers. If i take some more pictures of my coins and list them here, could you gents be good enough to help me with the Freeman numbers? I'll start next week and list maybe 5 at a time as they are in the bank vault and have no time to go and pull them all out the now. Thanks Dave (azda)
  8. So much so in fact, and with such a funky address, that someone must know who he is ? He also has a 1902 Low tide stating its UNC, but the fingers and helmet on Britannia are worn and Britannia has a spot of Verd under her armpit. I was gonna make a bid, but won't bother now on that basis, although a great strike on the OBV

    Lustre

I've noticed onewebby on ebay sometimes has 2 coins, the same grade, but cos 1 has a little more lusture he charges 10-20 quid more, why? The grade is the same, confusing
  10. Hi Rob, welcome to the forum. The coin you have is i think a copper 2pence, the grade looks to be a VF (very fine) or maybe a little better, but i'm not sure from the pictures, is there green spots on it as this could be Virdignis or copper disease. The rim is a little worse for wear around the coin, also bear in mind you're asking a dealer how much it's worth to him, but 50p sounds harsh to me.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

link that works Honduras 4 real The seller describes this disc as XF-AU http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260303052104&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.co.uk%3A80%2F%3F_from%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dp4712.m570.l1313%26_nkw%3D260303052104%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1
  12. Based on those recommendations, looks like we'll have to buy Gouby as well. No doubt about it. It appears that both books have their respective strengths. I have the Freemans but will get the updated version of Goubys that way i should be good to go for the Pennies
  13. Looks like i'm going to have to invest in his book then
  14. Geez a shopping cart is a tad helpful when selling anything usually. Do you have to phone or email for anything you want to buy? I get free calls to Europe so its no big deal, but surely as a dealer and book writer, you should be able to click a button and order what you like. Its the 21st Century, the digital age etc etc etc
  15. The link only takes you to a page where he describes the book. I've looked and looked and can't find an actual link to actually buy it. Anyone else?
  16. MIght have a wee stab on that, he's a fellow Scotsman :-)

    Sitting on a rarity?

You, sir, are a wanker. Lol, i near spat my coffee oot when i read Pecks reply
  18. Thought i'd post this one here incase there is a debate over it and so as not to clog the coin aqusition of the week thread. 2 Pix, hi res, so 2 posts.
  19. Good photos mate. When my head is inclined in that direction, I will sit down and work out for myself why it's an F10. In the meantime, if it isn't a favour too far and your camera is up to it, can you zoom in as far as you can get without losing focus on the left shoulder of her dress ? (basically until L.C.Wyon comes into view) Ta. Sorry 400, losing focus when zooming in unfortunately.
  20. Azda that's a cheeky wee question to be asking!! I offer 10% to my best customers on everything except bullion items. I can extend this courtesy to forum members on nearly every item on my site (some margins are very tight as I get burned on some purchases just like everyone else ) If you are interested in anything get in touch by email and I will send you a multi-use discount code for use at checkout. Postage is free for all sales over £150. John. If you don't ask John you don't get
  21. I've noticed a little difference in the link you provided John, the pic i have posted of the OBV has what i would say as a 3/4 broach, yours has a full broach, or is it my eyes and its late?
  22. Do our dealer friends amoungst us give reductions to members for coins?
  23. Lol, thanx john, out of curiosity, how much are yours, and what grade would you say this was? 400 i'll see what i can do regarding another picture
  24. It is John, but i wouldn't say unfortunately because as has been noted, not many of these have the LCW because of poor striking, so it's ok for now until i can do some more digging around, unless you have any that is?
