    New to collecting

Hi Rob and welcome to the forum and to coin collecting as a whole. Many people here can help you with many questions, its better to ask the questions rather than not, as a relatively newcomer myself i've found lots of help from the people here. You should never think that asking to many questions is a wrong thing, and ask as many as it needs to help you. Yes you can post pictures here up to 150kb max, it does also help with grading and determining what your coins are, i personally upload hi grade pics, each 150kb for OBV and REV, i just make 2 posts for each side. As for books, well there are many different ones out there, Spink being the market leader i would say, the owner of this site has allso written a coin book, very helpful to, there's also coin yearbook, but i won't confuse you with them all, i would suggest to start with the New Spink book 2010 if you have a lot of various different coins. I hope thats helped a little to start you off down the road of collecting and i hope to see some of your pictures soon Azda

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

This is what am talking about Leviathan, this guy is a dealer and the very person we as buyers we are supposed to trust, so if we start to distrust dealers, then what?

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

The problem being is that he also ups its grade as well. Another example.................................. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280498050311 <<<< bought by his wife Selling now cleaned, you can still see the stain in the crown http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1883-VICTORIA-GOTHIC-FLORIN-EF-/230470768068?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item35a920d5c4

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Personally i'd call it stealing, this guy is a dealer, someone for people like us that we are supposed to trust. I emailed one guy who had bought the coin i had sold to his alias, he replied to me today and said he had spoken with him and was gonna give him a full refund. I wonder now if he'll stop or continue his crappy practise.
  8. 1g does sound a lot of underweight for such a small coin unless there was a lot of clipping
  9. hi kris yours looks to be one of two coins its def henry VII but looks more to be the half groat due to the spacing between the neck and head nice coin though ive just recieved another coin today an edward IV ight coinage groat minted in norwich which i can see know real deal. i am to believe is not a common issue to come by. now i have these two coins and i am 100% sure that the london one i have above is dodgy ive had that feeing since first handling the coin, it just didnt seem right Why not take it to your local dealer Chris and get his opinion before sending it back

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Here's the dipped version of a coin his wife bought from me, she paid 255 for it and he sold it for 321. His text states EF, when it left my hands it was only a good VF http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230462143381

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

He gets away with it due to the fact no one knows what he's doing, but someone one day will buy his coin and leave him a negative for it being dipped, maybe they should add his wifes ebay number that she bought the coin from to so that people can see what he's doing. Maybe we should chip in a few quid each and purchase one of his mickey mousers.
  15. I have a curious question on slabbed coins. I am not a huge fan of slabbing, i prefer them in my hand and they are easier to store in a coin box etc. I know its all about personal choice, so my question is, if i were to buy a coin that was slabbed and took it out of the slab would that effect its value, i also realise that slabbed coins are somewhat a gaurantee of condition and authenticity, so what is the concencus of opinion on this?

Most of the coins he sells Peckris is in some way or another CRSIP RARE blah blah blah. As i said, i'm curious where the halfcrown will end up, i think it ends today

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

He does get some rarities tho Gary, he has a gilt proof penny up right now. Don't agree with this dipping thing though, i'm curious if he makes any money on the one i've listed here. I bet his wife shill bids for him to.

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

Well that guy is quite a respected seller, so it seems he buys from a different name and sells on his own name, but that coin looks a little cleaner than when he bought it. How did i find this out, well, he bought 2 coins from me under his alias, his address and the alias address both were one and the same, just stumbled across it today

    Ebay's Worst Offerings

I wonder if he'll get his money back on this coin he bought and is now selling http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200461725886 <<<<<< the one he bought for 365 pounds http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1879-VICTORIA-YOUNG-HEAD-HALFCROWN-EXT-RARE-AU-/230468642543?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Coins_BritishMilled_RL&hash=item35a90066ef <<<< and the same coin he's selling Looks a little cleaner than before though
  21. Slabs............a topic close to 400s heart. If you are offering the Marsh book 400 i would'nt mind it
  22. I'm just curious what the individual person would do, or will do if they purchased a fake coin, whether it be flea bay, an auction house or picked up at a car booty etc, will you throw it out, keep it, what will you do with one, especially if you paid a handsome price for it. I believe honesty is needed here. A friend of mine sent me a Geo III HALFCROWN, a fake, i don't know what he wanted me to do with it, as we both determined it was crap, so basically i threw it in the bin when it came and i had taken a look at it, again it was just complete junk.

Lol, Peckris, you made me smile then, my girlfriend says the same thing, she is German though and has an excuse, i always correct her with the same word and also with SAVE instead of SAFE.
  24. azda

    A suggestion

Not so far off the correct weight then, making things harder
