Fakes and what to do with them
azda replied to azda's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
400, that was some time ago, my apologies, but i have forgotten.Alzheimers possibly :-)I am just curious what other people would do with them, personally, if it's junk i will bin them, dependant on where its came from, it it was from ebay, then i'd ask for my money back, then leave a negative feedback stating it was a fake, if like i have said, it was from a friend, then i'd throw it in the bin, simples......I don't have any personally, or at least i hope i don't, i tend to buy from dealers and the odd numpty now and again who thinks their coin is a UNC when clearly it isn't -
Chris, could we rename this topic as modern fakes or something so people can find it and perhaps post their images?
-
Yeah i see that now, although the shield top right does'nt look great either, what is the weight of it out of curiosity?
-
Rob, could you explain a litte how i could tell that the coin pic you posted is a fake coin, to me it looks ok. What are we looking for?
-
Also, if you guys are looking to sell coins, the forum here does have a FOR SALE THREAD, maybe easier and cheaper than ebay, some people might be interested in your items, who knows.

Ebays fees for coins are i think 16%

Here's the pictures he sent me, i gotta say, i don't know why he even bothered, its an absolute mess

Hi Choolie, it was'nt the different companies i was reffering to, it was on the subject of cost, that had been answered.

Hello snowball and welcome to the forums. If you post the pictures of your coins, both sides, they will be easier to grade. A coins worth is not just about what type of coin it is, it also goes by condition. There is a function at the bottom of the page for uploading pix, 150kb max, so both sides should not exceed 75kb each side.

And how much? Ooooops, it has been answered already :-)

I'd go along with that suggestion, although naming and shaming the seller or so would'nt be a great idea, unless its apparent that, that person is always selling junk. A friend of mine got a shilling from Ebay the other day, and it was 1 gram light, instead of it being say 5.65g it was 4.3g or so. I'll see if he's got a picture. I think there is also a suggestions thread, so maybe this is better there so that Chris could maybe pick up on it and start the topic in its own right just like he did with the coin aquisition of the week thread, but a great idea.

400 i suggest that if you have been circling the coin for a year then it means you have some reservations about it, in which case i would say not to bother, or make him an offer on it, tell him your concerns about the OBV and then make your offer and see what he says, he can only say no, or maybe make you a counter offer, so go in at 140 :-) -
A curious Britannia rev
azda replied to azda's topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Also just noticed another die crack on the REV through the E in ONE -
Got this bunhead penny today and Britannia looks like she's got half a left leg, any comments on it, is it a weak strike?

If you look to the right of the ribbon, you can see what seeems to be an outline of another ribbon, unless it's my eyes playing tricks on me. Also to the left of her shoulder there is indentation marks, she's a very curious penny. -

Personally i wouldn't touch a coin from China, am not saying the sellers items are fake, its just my personal choice. I posted something about a month or 2 back somewhere here about a Chinese coin factory, they even had PCGS plastic holders, so even those are under attack. The only chinese i would touch is a number 47 and 29, chicken chow mein and prawn crackers

Not so much as a laugh, more of a recommendation, got this from a seller in Hong Kong, an excellent Lupe 40x Magnification, 2.59 with free postage, took 2 weeks to come but its an excellent and strong lupe with an led light, also comes in a small hard plastic case for anyone wanting a good glass.

1833 Sovereign with errors, possibly unique
azda posted a topic in British Coin Related Discussions & Enquiries
Hello people, ok so i have bought this mighty beast, and i will say, it was only bought to sell because i saw 2 definate errors in it, with a possibility of 4. Please don't scream at me, you have to understand, i am at this moment in time unemployed, and what i paid for the coin was a mighty chunk of cash, and dare i say it, i wanted to make a few pounds on it, so please don't chastise me for this. The coin in question is a William IIII sovereign 1833, a rarity in itself, and as you all know, i like you to hunt the error, so 2 pix of the OBV and REV are here for you to view and see if you can find the 2 definate, and possible 4 errors. If i am correct, this could possibly be a unique coin.
