    Advice On Damaged Coin

I think you're doing the right this time, a good dealer would mention the flaw, planchet problems do detract. Slow down in your urge to buy, save the online pictures and go over it several times before jumping in on a purchase.

    Advice On Damaged Coin

I'm going with a planchet flaw, the area where the beads are seems to be raised

  4. I can't help but thinking all of your posts leads to a link into your website, if you're looking for clicks then Why not add it into google? Just saying, but it seems to be the 4th or 5th link heading to a website with the same name as your forum name.....

    My Latest Acquisition

At the minute I'm on my iPhone as my MacBook and ipad have both gone pear shaped so can't comment, I just linked a CGS graded UNC with the lions faces obliterated which would mean that this point of wear shouldn't be taken at face value because there was millions minted from the dies which would be obviously disintegrate over time...

    Buying online

Both DNW and Londons have fairly good reputations but you can't live bid at Londons, you can at DNW but need to register. There will also be a Spink sale sometime in Setember

    My Latest Acquisition

The linked coin was graded as UNC, no lions faces there either http://www.londoncoins.co.uk/img.php?a=151&l=1624&f=r&s=l ?

British penny sells for $179,000 in California

I would think someone like Ira and Larry Goldberg would be potential buyers as they are often buyers of very rare British coinage. I seem to remember they had and Edward VIII proof set once upon a time
  9. Being a unique coin doesn't mean it would sell for XXX because no one knows what the price actually should be, having nothing to go by means in all probability that people wouldn't bid as high. Now with the 1933 there are several prices available and is easier to gague it's market value. I remember a unique hammered coin last year or the year before at DNW with an 8k-10k estimate and never got a bite due to the same reason, so being unique has its downfalls

British penny sells for $179,000 in California

Most penny collectors won't have that type of money to buy such a rarity, it virtually equates in price to a Una and the Lion, it was only ever going to sell to someone with very deep pockets either a collector or investor, it may have still ended up in British hands but I wouldn't like to be paying the import duty on it

    My Latest Acquisition

BU would be around a CGS 85-88 or an MS65, PCGS mark down on scratched surfaces and a possibility that CGS would also do the same and may even body bag it, I'd personlly give it aUNC, scratches detract (for me) but as long as you're happy with it that's what counts..... I had a Matt proof Sovereign that I thought would come back at around a 64 but it had been wiped at the mint and left minor hairlines, it got a 62 which I thought was low

    My Latest Acquisition

Wow, delete those 2nd set of pictures The coin itself judging from the 1st pics looks nice although a fair few OBV/REV scratches, possibly cleaned
  14. For those buying these thinking they'll be worth a few bob now or later please read and don't waste your money http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/news/article-3390519/I-buy-Royal-Mint-commemorative-coins-bulk-credit-card-gain-airmiles-cash-bank-s-refusing-accept-them.html
  15. Yikes, so if a GVF is £125 I just wonder how much the OP paid for the EF coin......
  16. So why buy it if you knew it wasn't EF? The patchy toning on the OBV detracts for me also, but i'd agree that it's definitely not EF The link attached was graded as NEF and for me is a big improvement on the piece you have, i'd personally ask the seller to have it back, what did you pay for it? http://www.londoncoins.co.uk/img.php?a=151&l=2620&f=o&s=l

    coin identity

Its a copy, if you look to the left of the bust you"ll see WRL stamped on it
  20. But surely if they are being sold as legal tender then they cannot therefor reverse that decision without inviting those who purchased them beforehand to send them back for a refund, because when they early buyers bought them, they bought coins entitled "legal tender"

New to coin Collecting Help Needed

Small upgrades? NF F GF NVF VF NEF, AEF, EF, GEF ECT ECT, will cost money, why change the same coin 6 or 7 times, you have perhaps been lucky, people tend to get burnt along the way, it's trying to help not getting burnt to much that is helpful in this hobby. I'm more than sure you've been burnt in the past.....As we all have

Better to find the right coin first time rather than continually upgrading. It takes time and patience

New to coin Collecting Help Needed

Given that i bought this on the eye appeal only as they are a common coin, i thought at the time that £120 was a little expensive, but considering that a PCGS MS65 sold for $825 i think it's now a reasonable buy. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so i won't say if mine is better than yours, i have my own opinion, but others may think differently, including you..... You decide.... You buy what floats your boat, not on what others think, after all, it's your money to buy what you wish.....
