I did mention the problems shortly after you'd sent your coins in Paul and the whole CGS problems came too light, wrong place at the wrong time unfortunately. They'll come back eventually, problem is there really isn't any new management, what i think they're trying to do is stem the flow of submissions because they can't cope. How long has it been now?

PCGS has a 10 day turnaround, not 30, and you can see within 5 days the grade given. You also don't have to pay any extra to view the population report. In order to be able to send your coins in to PCGS you'd have to either become a member or send to London Coin Company, becoming a member at Gold level gets you 4 free gradings, each costing 35 euros, so the fee pays for itself. Their next grading week in Paris is sometime this month, sending to NGC from the EU will take a 6 week turnaround because they have no grading office in the EU and the coins must be shipped to the US of A

That might be a good idea though Peter, a shared membership between those who use their service will reduce the costs, if there's 10 people then its a £60 fee, could be something for some of you to think about

Just looking up CGS online because i still can't get onto their website from my German IP address, it seems they've blocked foreign IPs, anyway i came up with this link through google, seems to smack of double standards from CGS IMO. I thought someone was taking the pictures of your coins? I always do my own pictures before deciding if i want to send to PCGS or not because taking a picture through a slab is an absolute pain in the a**e

The point is Pete that nothing about their service has changed other than they want another £99 a year to view the coins you already own and have in your hand, as i said, it's an individual choice and not making an argument out of it I'm also having coffee

I think firstly i'm going to mention the valuation, the company formerly known as CGS values their product, the valuations don't appear in any publications, so therefor it's their own opinion which doesn't match the market valuation, how many times have you purchased a CGS coin at say an 85 or so and paid the exact CGS valuation for it? The next thing from your post is the ability to view graded coins and their valuations within CGS, this was a free service and had run for several years or since conception of the company the bottom line for the change/charge is that Stephen Lockett thinks that people are undermining his other business of London coins by buying/trading their CGS graded coins. Do i want to see all my coins, this is a curious one, because i take all of my pictures i can see ALL my coins on my macbook anytime i wish without have to pay £99 fee for the privelidge, how can London coins stop you from y=taking your own pictures in a slab and posting it wherever you wish, this point i do find silly, coins can be swapped/traded by the owner of the coin regardless if it's slabbed by CGS/PCGS or NGC, those last 2 companies don't charge you to view their population reports. I don't think anyone is against anyone paying the fee, after all, it's your cash to throw around anyway you see fit, i just see the whole thing as an attempt to stem a flow that Stephen Lockett saw, the other thing that irks me about the whole thing is that it was supposed to be under new management, but it's still the same people, so i can't understand why the lies...... Agreed again, their prices are on the high side, even their estimates in auction are quite high considering their 24% commission on top of the hammer. As vickysilver said, i think its down to the corporate monster of Gibbons, although they were quite pricey to start with before Gibbons took them over.

The rim of the 1925 doesn't really match, OBV under BRITT is nearly gone and thick under the bust but compare that to the REV its all even, did you do a magnet test, they do look like junk as Rob says, check around the rim for joins, but hey, who am i telling, you're a dealer in coins

There is roughly 10 pages on this subject on the forum under the title "CGS membership fee"

The fact of the matter is, is that CGS and this new LCGS are still the same people, trying to work out why it all changed and saying "under new management" was this so that more money can be fleeced from the collector under the new name. Secondly, the old CGS pictures shouldn't be transferred to the new name as it's now 2 different companies, and so unless you have an agreement with the new company then they shouldn't be able to use your pictures on their website, only under new submissions should it be allowed if you have signed on a new submission form
